Dear Friends of Pug Hearts,

We are looking forward to this year’s big event and fundraiser, but we need your help! Every year, PugHearts takes care of an ever increasing number of pugs, with the goals of healing their bodies, nurturing their spirits, and finding them forever homes. We currently have over 120 pugs in foster care, and with that comes a large vet bill to cover their needs. Here are some ways that you can help PugHearts carry out its mission.

Attend the Event! If you can be in Houston on October 21st , please join us at PUGS ON THE BAYOU – and bring your family and friends!

Tickets will be available on the PugHearts website at: www.pughearts.com beginning in September.

Tickets include barbecue dinner, silent & live auctions, meeting with foster pugs, fun DJ music, special presentations, and much more. Plus you’ll get to party with your PugHearts friends! Get your tickets online in advance for $40, or at the door for $50. Children’s tickets (under 13) are available for $10 (under 3 are free).

Be an Event Sponsor! Sponsorships are a huge part of what makes our fundraising event successful. Thanks to our sponsors, the contributions cover most costs of putting on the event, so that the funds raised from ticket sales and auctions go straight to meeting the needs of the pugs. Please refer to the Sponsorship flyer to see opportunities that are currently available for PUGS ON THE BAYOU and consider contributing at any level. Sponsorships are a great way to get your name and/or your company’s name in front of 500+ event attendees.

Submit a Yearbook Ad! PugHearts Yearbook ads start at $100, so that is a great, low cost way to advertise a business or show love for your fur babies! Refer to the Yearbook flyer that lists prices and ad size information. The 2017 Yearbook will be available first at PUGS ON THE BAYOU, and we continue to distribute it at other PugHearts events all year long, so your ad will be seen by many people throughout the coming year.

Donate Auction Items! Silent auction items are needed to help raise money during the event. (Unused items only, please. And we love dog stuff, but please “think outside the pug” and donate items that would appeal to the interests of a wide audience of event attendees.) If you have items to donate, please submit the Silent Auction Donation form and contact an Events Committee member (see below) to arrange for pick up or drop off of your items. All donated items must be received by Wed. September 6th in order to be included in this year’s PUGS ON THE BAYOU auction. Items received after that date (and multiple items that are very similar) will be saved for future PugHearts events.

You can download the POTB 2017 PDF Document Pack ZIP Archive for more information / pricing and forms right here.

Thank you for your support for PugHearts and your generosity in helping the pugs!

2016 Rescue Status update

Where are we right now?
  • 121 current foster pugs in our care
  •  PugHearts took in 237 pugs in 2016
  •  We adopted out 306 pugs in 2016
  •  We had 22 foster pugs cross the Rainbow Bridge
  •  The vet bill for 2016 was $260,307.15. That is almost $22,000 per MONTH to operate PugHearts.
  •  4 pugs boarding at the vet, waiting for a foster family
  •  Over 85 foster families actively caring for a pug (or pugs) in their homes.
  •  A vet bill of just under $9000 (as of today 1/16/2017)
  •  Pug's on the Bayou 2016 raised $49,300.02
  •  17 Pugs came into PugHearts in the first 14 days of 2017
  •  Shelters and pounds calling almost every day to ask us to take in a pug. This NEVER changes.
Dates to mark for 2017
  • Pugs on the Bayou 2017 is October 21st at the Bayou City Event Center.
The Volunteer of the Year for 2016 was Jennifer Coppock. She has spent the majority of her time with PugHearts helping to organize and streamline the communications around adoptions applications, fosters and the day to day operations. She also fosters several pugs in her home; home schools her 3 great kids, goes back and forth to the vet and is the chair of the fundraising committee.

We appreciate all of our volunteers. It really does take an army for this group to be successful.

We are dedicated to our dedication to Any Pug, Any Age, in Any Condition, ANYTIME. We mean this and we are always willing to put in the effort and hours to make it a reality.

Your support is the driving factor in our success.
  • By fostering (even short term), you give a pug time and love to grow, heal and learn.
  • By transporting, you allow us to get them to safety and medical care.
  • By donating, you allow us the funds we must have to continue medical care and treatment.
  • By adopting, you provide a forever home to one that is ready and make room for the next one that needs us.
The rollercoaster ride that is rescue never slows down. As we move into 2017, please take a moment to hug your fur babies’ close.

Thank you for supporting the animals in need and continuing to educate the general public. One by one, person by person, moment by moment……this is how success is achieved. There is no magic solution; it is hard work, dedication and a drive to make the world a better place for the precious animals that make our lives better. Thank you for taking this journey with us and together…we will continue to make a difference

Thank you.

DibsPH ID: #5390
Dibs is an adult male from the Rio Grande Valley.

We are betting everyone will want dibs on Dibs

Dibs is a stray senior who among the Valley 8 (yes, 8 pugs in one trip ??) arrived the wee hours of a Friday night & vetted shortly after. Remarkably, he is heartworm negative!!

We are treating minor ear/skin issues. He is 11; but don't let that number dissuade you; he has the vitality of two 5 1/2 year olds.

He's got perfect leash manners & ADORES his walks. He is friendly with EVERYONE. We are correcting marking; neuter scheduled soon, which I expect will help considerably. He is a medium 17 pound guy & most uniquely colored fawn with a lot of dark throughout, & a hint of brindle.

He's a vocal, waggy, snuggly extrovert whose bigger-than-Houston personality continues to emerge. He has entrusted us (we shook on it) to find him the perfect home.

If interested, just reach out to PugHearts with one word: 'Dibs' ??. Before someone else calls, well, dibs ??????.

PugHearts of Houston has maintained a Group page on Facebook for the past several years. We encourage past adopters, potential adopters, fosters and all Pug lovers to join us! We love to post and share photos, heartwarming stories and advice on Pugs.

We have always required that potential FB PugHearts Group members submit a request to join our group in an effort to control SPAM and unauthorized posts. Group posts were visible to the public, but only approved group members could post comments or photos.

However, facebook has recently made some changes to their terms of service which made the PugHearts Group an “open” group, allowing anyone to post on our FB page. This resulted in some unfortunate posts which upset many people. It also allows for unauthorized use of images from our Group and opens our members to breaches of their privacy. We have now changed the status of our group back to “Closed” which once again requires any new members to submit a request to join before they can post.

This change does not affect any existing facebook group members in any way.

Cruelty is 24/7/365 - Please HELP!

However, with these new changes our FB Group is now only visible to existing members. None of our posts or images are available to be viewed by anyone not a current member of our Group. This ensures the safety of our members as well as the protection of our content.

To become a member of our FB Group , simply go to our FB Group page and request to join. Our Administrators will take a quick peek at your profile to ensure you are a genuine pug-loving person (and not a SPAM bot) and with one click they will add you as a member. If your FB profile is brand new or you have a very blank profile, they may ask you for additional information to verify you are a genuine requestor. Once you are added you can post and read to your heart’s content. Just remember to play nice and refrain from abusive posts. We want to encourage and educate Pug lovers by making this a welcoming and nurturing environment.

So come on over to our FB Group page and see what’s happening with your fellow Pug lovers!
