RECENT SHELTER BLOG UPDATES

2011-2012 KROGER & PUGHEARTS
Kroger Neighbor to Neigbor
Attention Kroger Shoppers!

Love to get a deal on your shopping? Want to help PugHearts in the process?

It’s easy: simply use your Kroger Plus card when you shop at Kroger.

If you’re already a Kroger shopper then you know how much you can save with your Plus card, but did you know that your purchases can help raise money for PugHearts?

Kroger has a great program called Neighbor-to-Neighbor where they will donate to local charities. And it’s so simple to participate!
  • Step 1 - If you don’t already have one, sign up for a Kroger Plus card. It’s free and the savings start on the day you sign up.
  • Step 2 - Print out this form with the PugHearts barcode
  • Step 3 - Take the barcode with you the next time you shop and have the checkout person scan it.
That’s it! You will now earn PugHearts reward points every time you shop. You only have to have the barcode scanned once but the rewards will accumulate through April 30th, 2011.

What if you already have a Kroger Plus card? Then skip right to Step #2 and print out this barcode.

What if I registered last year? The codes expire annually. The new year began July 1st 2011 so you are no longer participating in a donation drive for anyone..

How much will PugHearts receive? That depends on how many people register us as their charity and how much they spend. Kroger’s website lists last year’s participants and their donation totals.

So remember folks: Shop Smart, Shop for PugHearts!
PUG OF THE MOMENT
JojoPH ID: #633
JoJo is a fawn male. He is 7 years old and an owner surrender. He is heartworm positive and will begin treatment shortly. He has now been neutered, microchipped and brought current on his vaccinations.

From JoJo's foster: Jojo was rescued from an abusive backyard breeder. He lived outside on gravel, was underweight, heartworm positive, had bad teeth, was very suspicious of people and other dogs at first, and was fearful and guarded around food or chewies. After a month in our foster home he has transformed into a "velcro dog", and is accepting of all people and other dogs, including strangers. He LOVES to snuggle, and is a total love sponge. He spoons with you on the bed or couch, and will share your pillow, too. He's completely housebroken, and has even discovered toys. He will play tug of war with humans, but surrenders the toy to other members of the pack. He is no longer wary of strangers, and is very calm and loving. This guy will make an awesome companion, and is just waiting for his heartworm treatment to be ready for his lucky forever home.

PLEASE FIND A WAY TO DONATE
Cruelty is 24/7/365 - Please HELP!
PugHearts of Houston needs your help. Donations have dropped off as our number of pugs in care has steadily climbed.

The most important thing is to spread the word. Email friends, family, everyone you know and tell them that PugHearts needs their help. Post the message to forums and blogs you visit. Use the social media sites you visit every day to help spread the word.

We are once again pleading for your help. We understand that times are tough for everyone and we are asking for you to help find creative ways for us to raise this money.
  • Do you shop at Kroger? We participate in their Neighbor to Neighbor donation program. Print out this form with the PugHearts barcode and take it with you next time you shop. When you give the clerk your Kroger Plus card, hand them our barcode to scan and you will earn PugHearts reward points every time you shop. If you don’t currently have a Plus card, sign up (it’s free and qualifies you for special savings!) and then have our barcode scanned for your account.

  • If you cannot afford to donate, then perhaps you have something lying around your house that you could sell on eBay. By listing your item under the eBay Giving Works program, PugHearts will receive a portion of the proceeds – you choose the percentage.  To start now, click this:

    http://donations.ebay.com/charity/charity.jsp?NP_ID=32409

  • Maybe you could have a yard sale and donate the earnings to PugHearts. Or maybe you have an item that you could give us to sell using our eBay Charity Auction.

  • This holiday season, when someone asks you what you want tell them you’d like for them to make a donation to PugHearts in your name (or your dog’s name!) Ask them to save a dog’s life.

  • Need a gift for a pug lover? Check out our store at CafePress. A portion of the sale goes directly to PugHearts.  Click here:

    http://www.cafepress.com/pughearts

  • The next time you make a purchase at an online retailer, check out our iGive program – there’s a good possibility that the company you are buying from is set up to give a donation to the charity of your choice. Check a box and they donate a portion of their profits to PugHearts.  Click on the banner at the bottom of the page to take you directly to iGive or click this:

    http://www.igive.com/html/refer.cfm?memberID=574144&causeID=47285

  • You could check with your employer and ask them about donating to PugHearts. As charitable donations are tax deductible, many companies donate to local causes. Sometimes they match employee’s contributions and sometimes they make a donation on their own. You never know until you ask and with the end of the tax year fast approaching, many businesses are eager to help lower their tax bill through charitable donations.

  • If you are on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. then post something on your homepage about PugHearts and our financial problems. Even if you can’t afford to donate, perhaps someone reading your post can. Spread the word any way you can!  Look at the top of this page and we have a gizmo you can use to share with!  And a simple click button to LIKE US on Facebook with.  It really is that easy!
If you cannot donate, there are still really simple ways that you can help by spending little or nothing.

Every penny we receive goes to pay our veterinary bills. Nobody here draws a salary. Nobody takes a penny for anything besides medical care for our pugs. But we are incurring a serious deficit as our costs are far outweighing our donations. We simply cannot continue to operate in this way. If we cannot get our debt under control PugHearts will cease to exist.

Please help us keep PugHearts helping the pugs of Houston.
