With special needs

Lila is a 9 yr old female that comes to PugHearts after being found wandering all alone.

She appears to have some problems with her back legs and is being monitored by the vet.

Lila is, happily, heartworm negative.

From Lila's foster: Meet Lila - our gorgeous Lila!!

She is a very happy, healthy 9 yr old that loves to play and cuddle and run - everywhere she goes!!

Lila is a special needs pug that has some neurological issues with her back legs.

We are not sure if this is due to an injury or birth - be please do not let this deter you from adopting her!!

She does not let this slow her down one bit!!

The biggest issue is elimination, as she is not always aware of pooping.

Lila does squat to urinate, but then hops about 3ft while going.

If she is leashed and you hold her, she will finish then move on.

She will also stand up when asked!

This sweet girl is a treasure and we are hoping that someone will give her a chance at a family - she deserves her own family and loves with her whole heart!

Tessa (6132)
paw icon

Female

paw icon

1 years old

paw icon

With special needs

MEDICAL HOLD Tessa came to PugHearts from San Antonio back in November as a 7 week old puppy with a prolapsed rectum.

A prolapse will typically occur in puppies that haven’t been properly dewormed, causing severe diarrhea.

A purse string was put in by the vet in San Antonio prior to her transport to Houston.

What is a purse string?

Think of it as a drawstring in her rectum to hold her insides in, similar to holding the contents of a bag in place.

This is so important because the longer that the bowls are out, the more necrotic the tissue becomes.

The purse string stayed in for 2 weeks and less than 48 hours after it was out, Tessa prolapsed again.

She was rushed back to our vet to have an additional purse string.

This is when we assumed the problem was bigger than we thought and it was discovered that Tessa has no muscle tone in her rectum.

This purse string stayed in for 3 weeks, and this time she prolapsed less than 24 hours from removal.

I became quite versed in pushing her colon back inside her body every time she prolapsed, until her emergency surgery was performed the following day.

Dr. Hendrix performed a Coloplexy on Tessa, essentially pulling and tacking the colon to the abdominal wall and leaving no room for an additional prolapse to occur.

Since this surgery, we have been finding out all the additional problems Tessa has, and assume she born with this defect.

She has a total collapse of the 7th vertebrae leading into her pelvis causing nerve damage to the colon, which also gives her a funny gait and a spastic neurogenic colon.

She has the urge to poop all the time, and will posture constantly with some, little or nothing coming out.

It ends up on her, the other dogs, me and the wall on occasion.

She has to have her anal glands manually expressed on a weekly basis because her body can’t do it.

She will never be able to jump on and off the furniture or use stairs.

There’s mornings that I want to scream and cry while I’m scrubbing poop, but then I see her and everything is worth it.

We’ve treated her with prednisone and metronidazole to no avail, and we currently have her on Tylan which has helped the consistency be more formed.

She is on a strict diet of GI high energy wet food and Biome If Tessa hadn’t found her way to PugHearts, she would not be here.

There is no information on treating this condition because most dogs would have died or been euthanized.

PugHearts is fighting for Tessa and we are doing everything that we can to help her.

It’s not cheap, Her dog food is almost $80 a bag, but this little baby deserves the best.

SLPH accepts manufacturers coupons for the Hill’s Science Diet food, if you’d like to donate those at the clinic.

I had $15 worth today!

Today Tessa had her last booster.

At this point, most puppies would be ready for adoption.

Tessa is not.

We’ve concluded that Tessa might not ever be adoptable, but we also aren’t calling her hospice.

It’s unknown what Tessa might have to tackle next and with Pughearts and me as her foster, we will be ready to take on anything, but it’s not a burden we want future adopters to have to face.

Tessa is my baby.

She is spoiled rotten just like she’s suppose to be.

She spends the majority of her day being held or in my lap, and sleeps every night curled around my neck.

Please consider donating to Tessa’s care.

She deserves the world and PugHearts is going to give it to her

Reintroducing Pierce, an 8 year old male.

He is heartworm negative and in good health.

Pierce is extremely sweet, gets along with all the other dogs and any kids.

He is not a fan of the cold.

Pierce sleeps in the big bed, curled up next to a person.

He doesn't care for hard food, so we have to wet it for him.

Other than the howling he does to greet us when we come home, he's the perfect dog!

Oh, he loves raw carrots.

Grayson (6397)
paw icon

Male

paw icon

6 years old

paw icon

With special needs

I first found out about Grayson from a cryptic message at the end of October.

All it said was that there is an extremely sick Frenchie in a shelter scheduled for euthanasia today that we were trying to pull him out and whether I would foster to which I said of course.

It was exactly 3 days later when I got a call from the director of the rescue.

Grayson made it to our vet and his evaluation was not good.

He had a left sided failure caused by a genetic heart issue complicated by heartworms, a completely preventable condition, and he was given a week to live.

I felt like I couldn’t breathe but I also knew this dog needed to come here.

I didn’t sleep that night.

I felt like there had to be more I could do for this dog and then it hit me – Grayson is dying and he never got to experience anything!

clearly, we will do a bucket list for him.

We took him to the beach where he tried to chase the seagulls even though he could barely walk, to a ranch where he got kissed by a wild pony, on a convertible ride to get a puppachino, we cooked him steak, he met and peed on a giant tortoise, had a professional photoshoot and visited Bayou Bend Gardens.

Before we knew it, a week turned into two, then three and before we knew it he had people overseas reaching out about his story.

People were asking about heartworms and he was making a difference.

Just as we began hoping Grayson may celebrate New Year with us, an upper respiratory infection hit him with an incredible strength.

For two weeks we fought as hard as we could for him hoping his appetite would pick back up knowing well this may be it.

Grayson came to us beyond starved and he could barely pick up his tummy filled with fluid caused by his heart failure – if he ever got to the point where he couldn’t walk, we knew it would be unfair to keep it going.

And then he finally had a good day, and one after that, he got excited about meal times and I felt like I could breathe again.

As of today, Grayson got to eat Turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas both, he celebrated Mother's and Father's day, he has met endless friends and lived a life he should have had from the start.

None of this changes the fact that his condition is terminal.

When his symptoms become severe enough and he can no longer enjoy his life, we will be there to hold him as he crosses over.

But it will not be today.

This is a story of a rescue taking in a dog that will never make it out.

A dog that never stood a chance but a dog whose life has been turned around because the rescue stepped in.

His story could have ended in that shelter but it did not.

Living with Grayson for the past 2 months has taught us more than I would have ever thought a dog could.

Grayson was abused and he will pay the ultimate price yet he is not bitter at all, the opposite in fact.

He loves people and wants to be loved on all day long.

He has learned his new name within days and runs to us as fast as his body allows him to.

Having him here has made us to cherish every single day because we are not promised tomorrow.

He taught us to let go of our baggage and live in the now.

Your donations help not only dogs getting ready for adoptions but also dogs like Grayson, dogs that will live out the rest of their days in rescue.

We thank you for your support.

HOPICE!

Murray is a winky as he is missing his left eye.

He has IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease).

Murray also has a healed vertebral fracture, Spondylosis and hip dysplasia.

That being said, Murray has no idea that he should experience limitations with his activity.

He can and does do anything he wants.

He is on Rimadyl for pain and will remain on it throughout his life.

He is a sweet, loving cuddle bug.

Although Murray has his physical challenges they don’t stop him from doing anything he wants to.

He has been neutered and had his nares and soft palate done and is good to go.

He sleeps either on the couch or in a crate in the bedroom.

He uses doggie stairs well.

He loves treats and to play with toys.

He can be food aggressive so I either crate him or put him in another room to eat.

He is 90% potty trained.

He is sweet and likes to be loved on.

Since Callie joined us in April 2022, she has lost an impressive 9 pounds, been diagnosed with Cushing's, is receiving daily meds that have leveled out or eliminated the majority of her symptoms.

Those symptoms consisted of nearly constant panting, excessive hunger and thirst, poor hair coat, restlessness, skin irritations, weight gain, and pot bellied appearance.

She will needs these meds for life.

She continues to be the bossiest, most active pug here (saying a lot, considering the pair of puppy foster girls), with daily toy box raids.

Her now plush coat will keep her pretty and warm as we delve into a long deserved Texas winter.

She's the most interactive, funny foster to ever dawn my doorstep.

We welcome her antics as long as she wants to entertain us.

Foster Levi asked me if I knew how to do my job because no one has asked to meet him…point taken Levi.

Levi is 3 years old, 19 lbs.

with a super cute short/stocky body that will cause cuteness aggression.

You know that feeling when you just want to eat them up?

You’ll want to throw this little potato in the oven and eat him for every meal he’s so adorable.

Levi is VERY calm for being 3 years old.

He loves to watch tv and will melt into the couch with you for as long as you feel like it.

He’s also great in the car and loves to tag along for coffee runs, grocery pick up, pharmacy drive thru, you name it he’s game.

He does great when I’m not home and hasn’t had any accidents in the house (he even goes potty in the rain).

When he does get his burst of energy, he loves pushing a tennis ball around the house and chasing it.

While Levi cares more about humans than other dogs, he has become thick as thieves with Foster Ned and they’ll zoom around chasing each other or Levi will steal Ned’s toys to annoy him.. it works.

My senior dog and Levi cuddle frequently and Levi gives him lots of kisses.

He must sit directly on top of you.

Levi is noise sensitive - he would do best in a home that’s on the calmer side.

He’s ready to meet and charm you.

Update… Avery is now 14 months old.

This little doll found found herself at PugHearts at only 11 weeks old due to changes in her family.

Avery spent three weeks at our clinic trying to find the underlying reasons for her stomach issues.

It was determined that Avery suffers from irritable bowel disorder (IBD) and as such as frequent bouts of diarrhea.

Avery still requires a special diet and puppy pads out at night for these flair ups.

But thanks to PugHearts, she is getting all the care she needs.

Avery is considered a special needs/medical foster at this time.

Archie (5 yrs) has had a rough start at life.

He was one of five that PugHearts took from a breeder who dumped them.

He lived in an outside pen his entire life and not treated nice by humans.

He is also the only one of the five rescued that was heartworm positive.

We got that taken care of and he did GREAT!

Archie is scared of his own shadow, cowers near humans and jumps at every little noise.

He does, however, get along with other dogs and has not shown any aggression.

UPDATE: Archie is learning to trust, but it takes time with him.

He needs to find a person that will allow him time and patience to show them how amazing this boy really is.

His foster mom is showering him with love, patience and a quiet place to decompress and observe other dogs and how they should be treated.

Apollo (7126)

Please Welcome Apollo to PugHearts!

Apollo made his way from The Valley.

He’s a 5 year old Brindle French Bulldog.

Apollo really is such a sweet boy.

He is a true lover and so loyal to his people.

By his appearance I cannot imagine his life before PugHearts.

He is so skinny with patches of hair missing on his back and tail, presumably from fleas because some parts are raw.

His fur is thin and it’s obvious he’s been an outside only dog.

Apollo is also heartworm positive.

His fear of not getting enough food or another dog being mean to him is not all that surprising.

This poor boy had to fight for survival and now that he has a warm bed to sleep in and he gets 2 yummy meals a day, I’m hoping Apollo understands that he’s safe, he’s secure and he’s loved.

Apollo will need a patient and loving family, preferably as the only dog, that will love him and continue to show him he’s special.

Apollo shows no aggression to people, unless you consider massive amounts of kisses aggressive, and he is the best boy at house training and crate training.

He constantly wants to assert his dominance to other dogs, especially if he’s worried that he’s losing his food or might have to share my attention.

He loves relaxing in the dog bed chewing a nylabone, especially if he has me in his sights.

He doesn’t appear to have any anxiety when it comes to separation or being left alone.

Like most Frenchies he’s a little stubborn and hard headed, with a dash of OCD, but learning the best way to redirect him will alleviate most problems.

Apollo was recently neutered, and he had his nares, palate and saccules done as well.

I know Apollo has the perfect home out there waiting for him.

Hi y'all, Chiquita here.

Im around 12 years old.

I'm a tiny, fat girl.

I'm very petite, as they call me.

I weigh about 10 pounds, but I am a little over weight for my size.

I came to PugHearts after being left at a shelter with injuries to both my eyes.

I had to have 1 eye removed and the other I don't see much out of.

I also had to have emergency surgery because I had a prolapsed vagina.

I'm feeling much better now.

We are still trying to get somethings taken care of, but FoMo and FoPa both say I'm showing my sweet little demanding personality just because I really love to be held and sit with people.

I don't think that it demanding.

I'm currently on medical hold, while we get some other medical issues worked out, so it will be a while before I'm ready for adoption.

Welcome!

PugHearts Dean aka Mr. Debonair Dean.

I initially picked him up from a wonderful couple that saved him.

Their pug was missing and decided to save him because the finder had him in the trunk of a car.

He was in bad shape and called PugHearts.

Good news is that they found their pug.

They loved him from the moment they saw him and was grateful to save this baby.

I decided I couldn't let him stay in the clinic and became his foster.

Dean is 4 years old and was he so happy he didn't even know where to go first.

Dean will have a long journey, we really don't know how he lived before coming to PugHearts.

Our vet is trying to pinpoint where the head tilt and imbalance are coming from.

They will try to rule out chronic inner ear infection or a brainstem issues.

He was fleas infested but we took care of that, he also has bald patches throughout his body and could use about 1 lb.

or 2.

He sleeps well in the crate and we're working on a potty routine.

He wants to thank everyone for their donations and send hugs and kisses to all.

Stay tuned for his care journey.

Please Welcome Malone to PugHearts!

Malone is a 4 year old owner surrender from The Valley.

His family surrendered him out of love when they didn’t think they could care for him adequately, and PugHearts gladly picked him up.

Malone is epileptic and the doctors had the family so worried and scared, which is sad, because caring for an epileptic dog is not scary.

He is on phenobarbital twice daily and has never had a seizure in his foster home, so we think it’s very controlled on meds.

He doesn’t take flea meds due to their ability to cause seizures but he is on monthly heartworm prevention.

He has a luxating patella causing a wonky gait but it doesn’t slow Malone down at all.

He don’t jump on or off the furniture but will use the stairs to get into bed if he has to.

Besides phenobarbital fir seizures, Malone is on a daily joint supplement.

This boy has so much personality stuffed into a 14 pound squishy body.

He talks.

He sometimes talks back too!

He plays dead when picked up…there’s a video of him on Facebook!

He only sleeps flat on his back too.

Malone loves playing with his foster siblings and is doing great at house training.

He is waiting on his neuter, which will help the marking.

Malone loves kids too.

Really, if you have a hand to pet and a lap to lay in, then you’re his favorite.

This boy may have special needs but he is going to make a lucky family the happiest ever!

Please Welcome Sherry to PugHearts!

Sherry is an 8 year old Pug Mix that came to PugHearts from a local shelter.

She was found as a stray with a broken leg and the shelter doctor did surgery to fix it.

She has healed fairly well and is only on a daily joint supplement to help with possible arthritis later on.

We’re not sure what Sherry is mixed with, but her wispy, wire coat make us believe there’s Terrier of some sort.

She has the most beautiful apricot coloring, perfectly lazy pug curly tail and a smile that lights up a room.

Sherry does well with other dogs, but would be perfect as the only child as well.

There’s not a mean or aggressive bone in her body and sometimes even the crazy little puppies can boss her around.

Sherry loves being outside laying in the sun, and will spend her mornings catching all the rays she can get.

Sherry is crate trained, and will go in on command of if she needs to get away from the excitement for a while.

She is house trained, and will go to the door waiting to be let out to do her business.

Sherry loves treats and is working hard on not taking off your finger in the process of getting one!

Nylabones and chew toys make her the happiest!

Sherry was spayed early on, and it appears she was really loved at one time, which makes her ending up as an injured stray in the shelter even sadder.

She is fully up to date on vaccines and is a healthy and happy little girl.

I know someone is out there wanting to give Sherry a home, and she deserves to be loved and spoiled, with plenty of couch cuddles and kisses!

There is nothing wrong with her appetite, and she takes pills like a champ!

She gets along with the other dogs in the house.

I don’t know about cats.

She is such a sweet little lady.

I couldn’t help but fall in love with her.

She doesn’t really play with toys.

She is full of love, and would do better in a house with older or no children.

Cash (7568)
paw icon

Male

paw icon

11 years old

No special needs

This handsome fellow comes to PugHearts as an owner surrender.

We're unsure of the situation or reasoning for him being surrendered, and nothing hurts my heart more than an elderly dog who's been in a home for it's entire life and is suddenly surrendered.

He was understandably confused at first, but he has now settled in beautifully at his foster home.

Given that he's such a regal gentleman, his foster parents actually call him Sir Cash at home!

When he first came to PugHearts he was overweight at about 28 pounds.

It visibly affected his mobility and breathing at times.

In the short 2 months he's been here he has lost nearly 3 pounds and feels amazing.

He has so much more energy, has learned to go up AND down the wooden stairs (a lot scary than carpeted stairs).

Then when you consider he has some vision impairment, it's even more impressive how much he's learned and the confidence he's gained.

Just the other night he hopped up onto the big bed without assistance for the first time!

The reason for his vision impairment is most likely due to dry eye (very common issue for pugs) that was left untreated.

He is now on daily eye drops that keep him comfortable and to help prevent any further damage.

You wouldn't know the he's 11, he's very mobile, curious and engaged with whatever's going on in the house.

But he still has that calmness that comes with age, and of course he can sleep like a champ.

He does great with the other pugs, basically just ignores them (even the annoying 1 year old foster).

He also totally ignores the adult cats and kittens fosters in his home.

Even when the kittens bat at his face, he either ignores or moves away like a good boy.

He's also basically deaf, but it's a huge plus if your house is loud for any reason, because he does not care.

Also a hug bonus during construction, fireworks and thunderstorms!

His foster family as learned how to communicate with him and he's adapted very well, no doubt he would adapt to a new home fairly easily.

He enjoys soft toys occasionally, anything flavored that he can chew on, but his absolute favorite are soft dog beds.

He will play with, suck on, stretch out and curl up with any soft bed he can find.

I swear I've caught him doing yoga (downward dog position) with these beds!

Health wise besides the dry eye he's great.

Heartworm negative, fully vaccinated.

He had some masses removed when he first came to the rescue, they were fully removed and have healed well.

He takes Benadryl twice a day just as a precaution, which he'll take with literally anything you offer (peanut butter, cheese, etc).

Overall just a very chill, snuggly boy.

He does great out at breweries, meeting new dogs, having a lot of new humans over.

Nothing really phases him, he just wants that people love.

*Bonus* He's a rockstar for any tongue-out photos!

I truly believe there's a family out there who will love and appreciate him, and we'll keep him safe until he finds them

Introducing foster Irene.

This girl is estimated 6 years old and is 16 pounds of sweetness.

Unfortunately she seems to have had a rough / neglectful life thus far.

While we don't know her back story, she's obviously had several litters.

Given that she is middle age and just showed up randomly on the streets, it's probably a safe bet that she was discarded by a backyard breeder once she was no longer able to bear enough/healthy puppies.

This poor girl went from a home (we assume), to the streets, and is now in her 4th home, all in under 2 weeks.

She's understandably a little unnerved and just has a bit of nervousness/inability to settle.

I'm honestly impressed she isn't more scared, she's clearly a very resilient girl.

She will eventually settle (especially on the bed with you) and be all snuggled up next to your leg or arm.

She also loves anything that squeaks, but ESPECIALLY ball toys.

She seems house trained, no accidents the 6 days I had her, ignores the cats, accepts attention from anyone (even those smaller humans)!

Going back to her life of neglect, from her intake we learned that she is thankfully heartworm negative.

But she will need the following procedures; - Spay - Dental cleaning (her breath is horrendously impressive, my husband first thought it was bad gas, rather than her mouth) - Nares repair (to enlarge her nasal openings to help her breath better) - Soft palate resection (removing a small piece of her soft palate to open up her airway and help her breath better) - Removal of a (presumed) benign skin tag on a back leg Given that she needs so much corrected, this will be done over the course of two months with two separate sedations.

By the time she is medically ready for a home, I have no doubt she'll also be in a much better place emotionally.

Just another example of how PugHearts goes above and beyond for it's dogs.

I'm so proud to be part of this organization.

Stay tuned for her progress, and as always, anything you can give to help with the medical care of the 180 dogs currently in their care is greatly appreciated.

100% of donations go to the dogs, always. You're safe now sweet girl, and the road only gets better from here

Phantom is in the house.

He is so incredibly handsome!

He’s doing well with the pack.

He wants to play, but not with them.

He thinks I’m his new toy.

He’s a typical blind guy and has figured things out and is running around like he’s been here forever.

They never cease to amaze me with their adaptability.

He also has the most amazing head tilts, he may just be double jointed.

Phantom is 4 years old, sadly he’s heartworm positive.

Priya came to PugHearts with a significant flea allergy that was giving her skin issues, so she was seen at our vet and quickly improved with proper care.

She is about 4 years old and weighs 21 lbs.

She is energetic, playful, loves being with people, does great in the kennel and in the human bed.

She is learning to go into her kennel to eat, doing great with her housebreaking (no accidents!

), and she is learning how to seek attention in a calm manner.

This girl is smart and picks up routines and commands quickly.

She does want to be the boss, so no other alpha dogs in the house please.

She is just going to keep improving!

This handsome man is Martin.

He is a young man who was adopted when he was 17 months old.

He lived in his new home for a year and was returned because he is too active and barks.

I'm not sure if he remembers me and knows I don't put up with that kind of behavior but he has been nothing but perfect since he came back to me.

Martin is approaching 3 years, is a larger man at 23 pounds and is as sweet and loving as they come.

He does bark when someone comes to the door and loves to run and play with the other fosters.

In short, he's an active, normal, young, healthy pug.

I do really notice it when he decides to sit on my lap when I'm not expecting him.

He's not a jumper and I believe he remembers the “no lick” command that has been used for years in this house.

Martin is a fantastic pug and he has a nose roll that is beyond compare.

I just love looking at his face, it's the greatest.

He is a pretty good mix of active and laid back for a young guy.

I think he will be a great fit for a young, active family.

I also believe he would be very pleased to have some young ones to grow up with.

This boy is really special and will complete someone's life.

Myrtle is an 8 year old girl that is AMAZING!!

I believe there is a sweet spot for pugs and she is smack dab in the middle of perfect!

She is agile and loves to jump up and lay on the back of the sofas and jump on the big bed at night.

She sleeps next to me all night curled up as tight as she can get next to me.

Myrtle is also extremely loving and cuddly.

She loves to give kisses.

Myrtle (BTW, I love her name) is extremely well behaved and has been since she walked through the door.

She isn't a big pack animal, she much prefers to stay out of the activity on the back of the couch or on the couch with me.

She would be fantastic for a quiet home that just wants to have a companion who adores them and never lets them out of her sight.

Every once in a while a foster clicks with something in me and Myrtle clicked.

She has been spayed and just needs to have her teeth cleaned and she will be actively searching for her family.

Wonderful Waylon He is a 5 year old, beautiful fawn male.

He LOVES to play with both dogs and humans and craves affection from people.

Bring on the tug-war!

He loves stuffies and hooves and super snuggles!

He will jump on your lap like he’s on a mission, then will collapse and take a good solid nap right across your lap.

Waylon will follow you around everywhere!

Don’t worry about ever going to the bathroom alone.

He is extremely smart, and he is able to learn how to sit, using both verbal and non-verbal cues, in less than an afternoon.

He also sleeps well in his crate and keeps it clean always.

We are still working on total potty manners but they improved every day.

Waylon has completed all heart worm treatment and has no special needs or medications.

Waylon would love a playful home.

He’s such a gem!

Please welcome Ruby Rose back to PugHearts.

She was adopted around a year ago and has been returned.

The adopters have a Frenchie and when they adopted her they reported that they got along great.

A year later it appears that the Frenchie has developed an intense dislike for her.

So, she is back again with me where she is safe from harm.

Ruby Rose has been with me for a little more than 2 weeks and I've waited to post her until I could evaluate her personality and if she had anything to do with with issues in her adoptive home.

I can now say without reservation that she had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the issue!

Ruby Rose is the most laid back, loving and docile little girl around.

Her goal in life is to lay right next to me at every opportunity.

She gets along great with every other foster in the house (there are enough for me to be able to judge) she is potty trained, will go in the crate but prefers to sleep in the big bed and try to push me off the edge from cuddling.

Ruby Rose is 3 years old, weighs 16 pounds and is nothing but perfection.

I believe she has had a pretty rough last year and she's really ready to be a loved pet who has a human that takes great care of her and gives her nothing but love.

Ruby Rose will be a great pug for someone who wants total and unwavering devotion.

Please welcome Caleb to PugHearts.

Foster Caleb is approximately 3. years old and came to PugHearts as an owner surrender through no fault of his own.

He is playful and a free spirit who enjoys playing with the other dogs in his foster home.

He also enjoys his down time too and loves to cuddle with his humans.

He has a sweet personality and can be quite fun and entertaining.

Caleb is crate trained and sleeps quietly all night long.

He gets along with all dogs; he has not been exposed to cats yet so we cannot determine if he’s ok around them.

Caleb would be fine around older children in the home, but we do advise monitoring around toddlers at first given his young age.

Caleb might be fine as an only dog but has not been assessed in an “only dog” environment since being in his foster home.

Meet Jerry.

9 yrs old.

He was taken to a shelter to be euthanized along with 9 other pugs after his dad passed away.

Jerry had his intake yesterday.

Jerry had a UTI and infection in both ears heartworm negative, he weighs about 18 lbs and could stand to gain a little weight.

He was given meds at the shelter, but threw up the meds and his food every time.

I’m happy to say changing his antibiotic worked, no throwing this one up?.

Jerry has only been here a couple of days, but let me tell you he is just wonderful.

Such a sweetheart.

Loves to be with people and cuddle.

He is great with all the other pugs.

He came to me with his 12 year old sister Juliet, who is blind, and He checks on her frequently.

I will post Juliet once she completes her intake.

Jerry is a picky eater currently.

And does not like the kibble, but we are working on mixing canned and kibble.

Gilbert (7757)
paw icon

Please Welcome Gilbert to PugHearts!

Gilbert was picked up by BARC after being Hit By a Car.

PugHearts was called and our volunteers picked him up at the shelter to immediately transport him to Sugar Land Pet Hospital where he was seen by Dr. Hendrix.

Poor baby was on so many pain meds when he was transported that he could hardly move.

X-rays showed Gilbert suffered a left Ilium fracture.

Poor baby showed more deep pain than the majority of the pelvic fractures that I’ve seen.

Upon arrival in his foster home, poor Gilbert would scream in pain, and urinate when picked up.

We weren’t sure if it was swelling from his injuries, pain or just plain fear.

I’m happy to report that thankfully that subsided after a few days, but as I’m getting to know Gilbert, it’s clear someone was not good to him.

He gets nervous still when meeting new people, but cries and whines to get me to pick him up.

His appetite is typical pug strong, and while he heals, he’s getting 2 cups a day, which he loves!

Gilbert is still on strict rules of staying separated from the others.

One wrong move could shift his pelvis into dangerous territory, making eliminations impossible.

He loves the freedom of roaming the backyard, and he gets to share his time with his foster brother and fellow pelvic fracture Godrick.

They are enjoying their healing time together and spend their days with their pens set up right next to each other.

Gilbert had his intake and received all his vaccinations.

Thankfully, this poor boy caught a break and is heartworm negative.

He will be neutered and have follow up X-rays at that time to see how his pelvis is healing.

Callus typically forms in 3 months or so, and at that time he will be able to play with the others, and after awhile he will be cleared to adopt.

Gilbert is 4 years old, and a small boy, weighing in at about 16 pounds.

It’s sad to think his future started when he was hit by car, but it did, and it’s brighter than ever.

I have no doubt that Gilbert will make a complete recovery.

As with all my pelvic fractures, daily joint supplements for maintenance will be recommended.

I look chunky, because I am, hehehe.

Yes I need to lose a pound or 2, that would also help with my breathing.

You see I do have a collapsing trachea.

I do not take meds for that.

I do take meds to help with the pH of my urine.

I am puppy pad trained, but I also go outside too.

When he came in his eye was horrendous and nothing could be done to save it.

Hence, he is now a Winky.

Sadly, it was also discovered that his jaw was broken.

He came in in April and is now all healed up and ready to find the perfect place to hang his hat.

Aramis is a fantastic little guy.

He is very active and playful as any 18 month old should be.

He also gets along famously with every other foster in the house.

While he is playful he has his loving, cuddly side also and loves to be close to me and hang out while I watch TV.

Aramis is exceptionally well behaved.

His potty manners are good, he does well in a crate and he's not a barker.

I think he would really enjoy having a family with children that run around and play with him.

This little man really deserves to be part of a loving environment after the rough start to life he experienced.

Fawn colored and high energy.

He gets along well with other dogs, both small and large and loves children.

He walks on leash very well.

Pickles is SUPER excited about food and treats and is learning that he can count on getting meals regularly so that he doesn't have to scavenge for them in the trash cans or take others.

He currently sleeps in a kennel and has no complaints.

He really barks and is easy to quiet.

JoJo is house and crate trained.

She’s had zero accidents since coming here and has even let us know when she needs to go!

Josephine is around 10 years old, but acts more like she’s 5 or 6.

She’s both a vocal and fun pug mix, likely puggle.

She likes playing with nylabones and stuffed toys alike and loves playing with her foster siblings.

She enjoys snuggles on the couch or alone time on the fluffy dog bed.

Currently, JoJo is battling some skin issues that cause her to be very itchy.

Her fur is starting to come in, but she has a bit of way to go before she’s fully recovered.

In this photo, you can see her patchy chest.

This is what her tail and back end look like as well.

She got a new shirt wardrobe Sunday to keep her bald spots covered.

Josephine’s current meds include antibiotics to clear up any potential skin infections and drops in both ears for infection as well.

She’s on cyclosporine drops for dry eye, which she’ll be on forever.

All things considered, her health concerns are minimal and mostly temporary, minus her dry eye.

Josephine is a very special girl and would make a great addition to any family as another dog or only dog.

Nelly joined our home as a foster about 6 weeks ago.

She had been found as an underweight stray in New Caney.

She has been spayed as well as having had the nares and palate surgery performed to set her out on the right tract.

Nelly came to us presenting an interesting behavior of swirling very quickly apparently trying to do harm to her tail.

Well, she doesn’t want to harm herself.

The twirling and tail chasing happen when she is suddenly startled or is overwhelmed with a situation.

AND sometimes when she is irritated at me.

After 6 weeks Nelly rarely settles into the twirl except when she is happily expecting food.

Nelly is now totally potty trained and additionally uses the dog door to go to the backyard to potty on her own.

She is VERY treat trainable.

This funny little girl is so smart that she will next next to where she did potty and wait for me to come with a treat.

I think Nelly was used to being alone.

She has nothing much to do with the 3 other dogs in my house.

I have also realized that she is not a fan of being held or cuddled.

However, wherever I am in the house, she is right there on the floor next to me.

We haven’t had any fights.

I am slowly working on getting her used to being held.

She is working on taking turns at feeding and snack times.

She can swoop in so quickly to snatch a food treat.

I feed her in a dog pen at mealtime.

I feel so positive about how far Nelly has come along in 6 weeks.

Sky’s the limit little girl.

Kilo (named after Kylo Ren), is a 3 year old sweet boy.

If you want a cutie pie Velcro pug who is mostly chill, this is your boy.

His favorite thing to do is curling up in your lap and napping.

A good nap or a good friend will put pep in his step and then he is ready to play.

He is good with other dogs and kids.

He is house trained - he uses a doggie door to go outside.

If we leave our house, we kennel him.

He will go in the kennel because he knows he gets his treat.

Autumn here, I am about 7 years old and weigh 13 pounds.

I come to PugHearts as an owner surrender through no fault of mine.

I am heartworm negative.

I have a large arch in my back and Luxating patella, but I walk and get around great, I even run.

I love being with people, but I am a little shy until I get to know you.

I get along fine with the other pugs here.

FoMo says I'm just a wonderful little lady and that I am just the cutest little thing.

She just loves the tad of white on my toes.

I'm looking for my forever home.

I love my food and big, comfy, fluffy dog beds.

Sitting in my people's lap is one of my favorite things.

Will your lap be my favorite place to be?

I took one look at Sprite's picture and knew she is my kind of foster.

Sprite was in a shelter in the RGV, is 15 years old, 9 pounds, blind, diabetic, HW+, has skin/hair issues, dry eye and can be a real bitch.

She totally hates one of the puppies I have.

And she is without a doubt one of the most perfect pugs I have ever laid eyes on.

We are monitoring her sugar and trying to get it stabilized.

She takes insulin 2X at day at 7am and 7pm.

I have alarms set and I think she's figured out when they go off she's going to get fed, she gets super excited.

Her diet is strictly monitored and she gets nothing but her food.

She acts like she's starving all the time but I think she has put on a little bit of padding in the last week.

I hope once she can be bathed her hair will begin to fill in.

But she is absolutely beautiful just as she is!

Sprite is never very far from my side.

She is either on the couch with me, in bed with me or following me around and trying to make me fall and break a hip.

As I said above she can be very bitchy so I have lovingly given her the nickname of Sassy Pants (I cleaned that up from what I originally called her).

I love my BBBB girls, Beautiful, Black, Blind, Bitches.

Sprite is an amazing old lady and I hope there are several years ahead of her to be spoiled and know love.

Let’s welcome little Tillie.

As you can see, she came to us with TERRIBLE SKIN!

I don’t know what happened but she is so happy.

She is my little tippy toes Tillie.

She bounces as you talk to her.

She wants to play with toys and interact with you.

I don’t know how a dog so mistreated can be so happy.

She loved her first bath, It soothed the itches even as they would bleed.

She can be a little timid with direct people contact but once you start petting her, she just loves up to you.

This little gal is estimated to be 2 years old & as soon as we get her skin issues cleared up & get her spayed, she will be ready to go to her forever home.

Perfect!

Avalon is suffering from a severe yeast infection in her skin that has depleted most hair on her body, so much so that my first impression was she was shaved.

Her tiny body shows the overuse of feeding puppies with her sagging skin, and she is so skinny.

Even with all her past, Avalon is a lover and has all the spunkiness to make her a hot mess express in the future.

Good morning everyone.

I'm Hugo da Boss.

I'm 1 year old, 13 pounds, and full of puppy energy.

I had my neuter, nares, and palate done last week, so I am ready for YOU!

I love playing with toys, running around the backyard, and these things called morning walks.

Over the last 4 days, my house manners have improved dramatically.

I'm extremely smart, if I do say so myself.

By the way, I'm completely blind, but it only took me a couple of hours to map out the house and the yard and I very rarely bump into anything.

Honestly, I don't understand what all the fuss is about.

Being blind hasn't slowed me down one bit.

FOMO says if you miss your opportunity to adopt me, you are missing out on one of the bestest boys EVER!

You can wait to possibly see me at Pugs On The Bayou, but if you wait, you might just miss out on the best thing that could ever happen to you cause I might just be of the market by then.

He is a little shy and seems to like it best when he is the only dog around the human.

He is getting better though.

He has been with me only a few days and needs time to settle in.

He has a bad eye and is HW+, so he has to go through treatment and get neutered and they will decide what to do about his eye.

Melba has only been here only about 3 hours and has already won us over, especially Bruce who is partial to Chihuahuas.

She may be a Chug but looks more like a Chihuahua.

I’m not used to a dog with a nose.

Even though he can be a tad high strung during exciting times, it only means a little barking and spinning, which is no big deal and the others just join in.

Theo is the cutest lowrider with legs like a weenie dog but a complete pug everywhere else!

He is the perfectly smutty coloring, with soulful eyes and a very thin single coat of fur…meaning less shedding!

Theodore would love a home with a more low key atmosphere.

Other dogs and children are ok as long as there lots of love and schedule.

Theo is med free, taking only composure pro to help with stressful times.

He’s my most favorite cuddle partner, crates on command and can literally hold it for hours and hours…like bladder of steal!

Just the right mix of active and chill.

Taz is neutered and has obviously been in a home.

Sadly he is heartworm positive and will have to undergo treatment.

The good news is, he is scheduled to begin his treatment journey late January.

We are also working on getting rid of a little dermatitis.

It appears he has an eye irritation issue called entropion, which will need to be monitored going forward.

Taz is playful.

He likes his walks.

He likes toys and antlers.

He likes scratches behind his ears.

He Loves the big bed!

Taz is great with other dogs and loves his peeps!

He has a real affinity for my husband, but doesn’t seem to mind hanging out with the ladies either.

Hi, my name is Sprout and I am a happy and playful 4-year-old pug who also loves just to chill out and relax.

I am a little on the small size (by pug standards) and a winky, but this does not slow me down one bit!

I love playing and running around, and toys, omg, I love toys!

But I will also be very content to just hang out and chill, especially while FOMO works or the family watches television.

I am good with dogs of all sizes, though I would like a playmate my size to play with (my foster brother and I play all the time, but he's 5 times my size!).

I am housetrained, have a good temperament, and sleep in my crate or on the dog beds on the floor.

I am healthy and ready to bring happiness to my forever home!

I would like to officially introduce my newest foster, Tinsel.

This refined lady looks fabulous in pearls.

She comes to us as an owner surrender, and you can tell she was well loved.

Perhaps they didn't have the means or knowledge of how to care for her properly (she needed her nares widened, her soft palate shortened, and her spay surgery, as well as treatment for parasites ).

After a few days of recovery she's shown to be a perfectly well adjusted, potty trained, toy loving girl.

She's done wonderfully with my boys, she is polite and patient, but also not a pushover.

She loves toys & bend-a-bones for chewing, and is very excited when I come home.

She'll sleep in the crate, but definitely prefers the human bed, even if it's just at my feet.

She seems like she'd do well in just about any home.

Mature beyond that annoying puppy energy, but still happy and playful.

After another week or two she'll be fully healed and available for adoption!

She was found on December 31st, hit by a car with devastating damage to her pelvis.

She was found on the road unable to move due to the severity of her injuries.

Odds were less than great but we gave it our all and so did her surgical team.

We never give up on a dog unless there is no chance they will have quality of life.

Ruby lost a leg and her pelvis was beyond repair.

She is a fighter and is adjusting to her new body without a second thought.

She is walking outside beautifully and she’s working on being able to navigate tile with traction sock on her remaining back leg.

Ruby is still recovering from her many injuries but when this 2 year old is done, she will be a force to recon with.

She is loving, determined, precious and very opinionated.

Noel is almost 14 weeks old and is my chill baby.

She’s very social and loves meeting new people.

She’s playful, but she’s really good about settling down at night once it gets closer to bedtime.

She loves to snuggle in my lap in the evening once she’s worn off all that puppy energy!

Potty training is a work in progress, and she’s not a fan of the grass, so that makes it even more of a challenge.

She does use the potty pad, so she’ll be good in the event of bad weather!

Noel sleeps in a puppy condo with her sisters at night, or when I leave the house, and we don’t hear a peep out of any of them until it’s time to get up in the morning.

They’re not waking up to a clean crate just yet, but it’s gotten so much better than when I first got them.

Another dog, or two, would be appreciated.

The girls love playing with my Boxer and tormenting my resident pug, so another dog to help burn off some energy and to cuddle with would be a must.

She should be scheduled for her spay towards the end of April or early May and will be ready to join her new family soon after.

Meet Marino!

We sprung this sweet little boy out of the clinic today.

We were told that he was very fearful and head shy, likely from being treated poorly in his short 2 year life.

He was definitely shy when we first picked him up and twinged at every move of my hand.

He let me hold him and he somewhat relaxed on the ride home.

Our crew was a little overwhelming to him, and it took some coaxing with treats for him to come inside.

Thankfully he is a typical food oriented pug, so meal time made him happy and he started to relax a bit.

He’s now sitting with us on the couch, and I know it’s just a matter of time before he’s playing with others and trusting us more.

Welcome to the good life PH Marino!

(The name doesn’t fit him yet..) Isn’t a handsome guy with that pink nose?

Introducing Phelps - yet another rescue from the RGV.

Phelps is 2 years old and 18 lbs.

He is a survivor of a dog attack, but still as sweet as can be.

The exact circumstances from which he came are unknown, but he was running loose and was bitten on his face and neck by another dog.

Phelps was found treading water in a swimming pool, which we believe he jumped into, to escape his attacker.

Once arrived in Houston, he waited patiently for a foster home.

Phelps has shown himself to be a very Velcro Pug - always wanting to be near his person.

If it’s possible for him to be in your lap, he will be!

He will play with toys in short bursts, but he prefers to either go for a walk or snuggle.

While he gets along with other dogs, he would do well as an only pet, or with other dogs that are calm.

He has shown some minimal resource guarding with food and will interrupt your fussing over another pet to steal your attention.

Phelps is a very low shedding dog, not much of a barker and about 99% potty trained.

He will sit on command and is doing well on leash.

He is crate trained also.

Currently he sleeps in the big bed with foster mom and is very quiet.

Phelps is fully vetted and ready for adoption!

Please welcome Victoria to PugHearts.

This little lady was found down in the Rio Grand Valley & presumed, hit by a car.

PugHearts stepped in, made sure she was stable & our network got her to our vet in Sugar Land to take over her care.

First thing was more X-rays, surgery to remove her injured eye.

It was determined we couldn’t do anything for her pelvis, so crate rest it is.

She can walk but doesn’t put weight on her right leg & needs at least 4 to 6 weeks of crate rest to let her little body heal.

We were very concerned after her surgery as she didn’t urinate.

We really felt this may be a quality of life issue.

If Victoria couldn’t do her business, her pelvis wasn’t in any condition to allow us to express her.

Our fearless leader decided to go spend the morning with her to see if the hard decision needed to be made.

She discovered a beautiful & strong Victoria who loved to sniff around, hobble & explore.

After about a thousand sniffs, Victoria decided she could do her business!

Low & behold little girl, that was the first day of the rest of your life & Cindy sprung her from the clinic.

I have been watching her for a week now, she is absolutely wonderful.

She is content in her crate, will chew on her toys or bones, will quietly let you know it’s time to have a break outside so she can do her business.. Victoria is showing us she is a little spitfire & ready to take on the world.

Sweet & spicy little lady, back to the crate for more rest!

I can assure you, these pictures don’t do Carter justice.

We got home after dark, so I couldn’t get any outside pictures, but his coloring and his eyes are absolutely gorgeous!

He is the deepest apricot color with eyes that match.

This baby has been perfect.

Clean belly band, no fuss at all when he went to the crate this morning.

Carter slept soundly next to me in the big bed.

Carter does great with everyone, and was comfortable enough last night to take a toy to the crate and play with it on his own.

He will excel in any home environment and is going to make a lucky family so very happy!

Meet Chandler!

Chandler is a silly little guy with a heart full of joy and a belly that's always ready for more snacks.

He’s happiest when he's playing, snuggling under blankets, or following his brothers on little adventures — though he's usually the first to dash back when called.

He’s getting better at potty training every day, loves everyone he meets, and has a soft spot for cozy cuddle sessions (he’s a solid 10/10 on the snuggle scale).

His long, curly tail is always wagging, and while he does like to nibble a bit, he keeps it gentle and playful.

If Chandler could talk, his first question would probably be: “Are you gonna finish eating that?”

Tonight’s “Any Pug, At Any Time, In Any Condition—ANYTIME” is: Lozen.

Lozen is a warrior, in name and in spirit.

This little fighter was discarded when she was no longer valuable to a breeder, left to fend for herself.

But PugHearts said not today.

At just 3 years old, Lozen has already endured so much.

She is heartbreakingly thin, weighing only 10 pounds, and battling sarcoptic mange and heartworms.

Her body has been through the worst, but her spirit refuses to break.

She’s spent the last three weeks in quarantine at the vet, getting the care she desperately needed.

Now, she’s finally with me, where she can start learning what love truly feels like.

Lozen also has a bad leg, which will be X-rayed soon to determine what she needs.

But one thing is certain—she is no longer alone.

She has a whole team fighting for her now.

Lozen has a long road ahead, but her journey to healing has begun.

Follow along as we help this warrior rise.

She’s safe.

She’s loved.

And one day, she’ll have the forever home she deserves.

She came to PugHearts with heartworms however.

She has been treated and is living out her 30 days of crate rest post heartworm treatment.

This sweet boy with the absolutely gorgeous brown eyes and a mangled pelvis has been settling in nicely.

He is quick to learn the rules and understand the sometimes crazy schedule.

He is growing more accustomed to me leaving the house or even the room, meaning he is getting more comfortable.

He knows I will always be back.

Sebastian came to us with nasty skin, patches of fur missing and after rads were taken, it was discovered that poor Sebastian had an unfortunate run in with a car resulting in a pelvis broken in many places.

Lucky for Sebastian, his injuries didn’t kill him, and his body healed showing now obvious signs of injury.

He is med free, but has started a joint supplement for maintenance.

Sebastian is 2 years old and heartworm negative.

Sebastian loves toys, being outside and is working on house and crate training.

I’m so proud of him!

He is taking steroids and antibiotics and should be feeling better soon.

He will need to be on prescription urinary tract dog food for the remainder of his life.

He is also being evaluated for possible Cushing's disease.

This sweet 8 year old pug has excellent potty manners, gets along with my other dogs and cat.

He is very excited for meals, treats and toys.

Sleeping in a crate is no problem.

He has been neutered, had nares and soft palate surgery.

Dara: A Love Lost, a New Beginning.

In the quiet dusk of a lonely road, Dara's world came crashing down.

A devoted pug with a heart full of love, she found herself clinging to the lifeless form of her mate, struck down by the cruel fate of an unforgiving highway.

Found by a kind-hearted stranger, as they pulled her from his lifeless body, she cried out for her mate.

Dara's tale is one of profound loss and quiet resilience.

Taken into the arms of PugHearts, Dara's days are now filled with the warmth of a safe home, love, and tender care.

Yet, the shadow of her mate's memory lingers in her eyes, a testament to the bond they once shared.

Though surrounded by affection, Dara remains shy and uncertain, her heart still heavy with the weight of her grief.

Recent motherhood has left its mark on Dara's delicate frame, her thin body bearing the signs of the sacrifices she made for her puppies.

But now, in the loving embrace of her foster family, she begins the slow journey to healing.

Dara is estimated to be three years old, weighing around fifteen pounds, and blessedly free from heartworms.

With every gentle touch and kind word, Dara slowly learns to trust again.

Her only wish is to be close to those who care for her, to find solace in their presence.

Soon, she will undergo her spaying and vaccinations, marking the beginning of her new chapter.

As we watch Dara's progress, let us remember the love she lost and the new life she is finding.

Her journey is a poignant reminder of the resilience of the heart, even in the face of tragedy.

Please Welcome Jasmine to PugHearts Jasmine is 6 years old and was surrendered to PugHearts with horrific injuries from being hit by a car, heartworms, mammary enlargement with active milk production and scabby skin with missing patches of fur.

Jasmine had an “owner” that chose to breed her repeatedly and didn’t get her help from her injuries, but in the end at least she ended up with PugHearts, and that’s all I can really say… This poor baby has a pelvis broken in 3 places, a dislocated hip and a badly broken femur.

Because she sustained these injuries in January and was confined to have babies or nurse, callus has slowly started to form.

It’s hard to imagine the pain that Jasmine has endured.

She will start Doxy for heartworms, and i will evaluate her movements while her milk dries up.

Then she will be spayed, and the decision will be made to re-brake her femur for proper plating or if her leg is lame, she will have an amputation.

Either way, Jasmine will be loved, cared for and live a life that she was meant to live.

A spoiled princess is in her future.

While PugHearts struggles with the influx of pugs, and we beg for fosters, Jasmine needed us.

Jasmine is PugHearts and a true example of our motto.

Viola also has mild mobility issues, and has  lost her hearing.

However, this doll has navigated my house perfectly since arriving.

Prince is so thankful for PugHearts because not only did he get neutered and a nose job, he will go in for heartworm treatment in May.

While his people failed him, he will never be neglected again.

He is a skinny boy right now, its nothing some groceries can't fix.

This fuzzy-butt has the sweetest face, velvet fur and is so gentle and sensitive.

He loves stuffies, balls and chew bones.

His favorite pass times are playing bitey face with the resident pug, chewing and napping in the big bed.

Introducing Curtis.

He is 3 years of pent up energy in a deep apricot fawn body.

He is model handsome, very active, and smallish, at an agile 18 pounds.

He is also a climber, as he scaled my 3 foot iron fence (still contained within the 6 foot wood fence) with the ease of an eel thru an inner-tube, so will need a vigilantly secure home.

He's an apparent, unclaimed street dumpee, who even after a triple wash, still smells like a stinky sock...

I am factoring in he's been boarding for 2 weeks, because as usual and always, we don't have enough foster homes for the dogs coming in.

Curtis seems friendly (too, lol) to all the pugs here, though most of them are ready to call Orkin on him.

If you'd like to add A LOT of busy to your home, enjoy the smell of a funky gym bag, and/or would consider fostering (Houston area locals only) for us, please adopt Curtis and/or reach out!!

Curtis is healthy, neutered, vaccinated, bouncy, chatty, bag packed, and home ready now!

Please welcome Nadine.

She came from a shelter in Louisiana along with her mom and dad.

Nadine is 3 years old and weighs 16 pounds.

Nadine is a fairly timid and laid back girl.

She flattens out when someone standing above her reaches down to touch her but quickly jumps up once touched.

She is a very easy pug, all she wants is her person and food.

She is always right with me to make sure I'm doing every thing the way I should.

In short, a normal pug.

Nadine is extremely sweet and is calm and quiet.

She is ok with the crate but prefers to be with me.

She will do well in just about any home environment: she can be in a crate while you are at work or be following you around or playing with your children.

As long as she has your unconditional love she is happy.

Her family can be a single person or a family with children.

She just wants to be loved and cared for.

Give Nadine a visit and see what a fantastic girl you would be adopting.

This is Maxine and she came in last week from a shelter in Louisiana.

She is 8 years old, weighs 14 pounds, not spayed yet and is heartworm positive.

I thought I was getting another old girl but the white in the pictures is her skin.

She has significant skin issues and white skin so she looks grey.

Maxi is super sweet and loves to be held and loved.

She was a good girl in her crate last night so a few more 'no accident nights and I'll give her a shot at the big bed.

This little lady is a joy.

Love her.

Peter is very sweet and very high energy.

He loves to play, especially with others.

We have affectionately nicknamed him bear because he acts like a tiny bear.

He’s vocal, not all the time but if he wants something and you don’t give it to him he will yip at you.

He’s great with other dogs his size but is intimidated beyond big dogs.

We have a 150lb Mastiff and he went from barking at her every time she moved to laying next to her in about a week.

His favorite person is our 9 yr old daughter.

He loves to play and play.

We have 2 other young Pugs and the 3 of them are constantly playing.

He has learned to use the dog door and does just fine eating with the pack.

Crowley displays a strong affinity for toys, often experiencing energetic outbursts that prompt him to toss them into the air and play independently.

At 7 years old, Crowley has achieved a perfect balance of calmness and playfulness.

Weighing around 19 pounds, Crowley is slightly taller than average for a pug.

He interacts well with other dogs, is cautious around strangers, has a robust appetite, and is crate trained, although he does not enjoy spending time in a crate.

Crowley is a sound sleeper in a human bed and is now ready to be placed with his forever family.

Jackson is one handsome boy.

He is only 24 months old and healthy and ready now.

He is turning out to be such a love.

He has taken a couple more days to decompress and really relax.

Now he is starting to pick up a toy or hoof and play.

He gets along well with the other pugs and loves everyone.

His potty manners are improving everyday and is belly band free.

He is crate trained and knows how to use the doggy door.

He is one of a kind.

Just look at that nose roll.

UPDATE: Bethany is heartworm negative - so she is actively searching for her dream to come true!

Well, it's happened again.

Please welcome Bethany.

She is in good health and is as sweet as I've ever seen.

She's 2 years old and weighs 13 pounds.

She has been spayed.

Bethany is amazing and such a well behaved young lady.

She's very quiet and docile and only wants to be close to me or held, and she is just the right size to be held.

So far she pretty much ignores the others and sticks like glue to me.

She's very new to my house so as her personality comes out I'll keep everyone updated.

But I know one thing without reservation, this girl is a keeper!!

Depending on her HW status she maybe available for adoption soon.

Hi, I’m Judge!

I just rolled in from Mathis, Texas and I’m chillin’ while I wait for my official intake this week.

I’ve got a little cough, but don’t worry—I’ve still got plenty of love (and snuggles) to give.

I am heartworm positive and will have to go through treatment prior to adoption.

Here’s what you need to know about me: I LOVE Vienna sausages (they’re basically magic), do not love cheese (hard pass), and my favorite place in the whole world is right in the middle of a cozy human-and-pug pile.

Stick around—I’ve got a feeling this is just the beginning of my best chapter yet!

Meet my newest foster, Marco—he’s pug-kin adorable and currently on the lookout for his Polo!

This 3 year old cutie was a Christmas puppy, but his owners soon realized their schedules were too ruff for a young dog.

Now he’s with PugHearts, taking some time to decompress, gain confidence, and learn that the world can be a safe, loving place.

Marco is healthy, sweet, and will be ready for adoption once he’s neutered.

He’s a little shy right now, but with patience and love, he’s sure to unleash his full potential.

Don’t wait—this handsome guy is ready to play a lifelong game of Marco… Polo with his forever family.

I've only had Eden a day but I'm very much in love with her.

She has been absolutely perfect and she is super loving.

And I think she's beautiful.

There's just something about the way she looks at me that melts my heart.

Eden is 5 years old, weighs 21 pounds and is heartworm negative.

Once she is spayed, she will be ready to make someone the perfect companion.

I highly recommend you don't let this girl slip through your fingers.

Eden has recovered from her enucleation and is starting to show her personality.

She seems to really like toys She is at that sweet spot for pugs at 5 and is very well behaved.

She is a super loving girl but is starting to show her playful side also.

I have no idea of her past life but she is quire comfortable in the house and as sweet as they come.

She has settled in like she's been here forever.

Please Welcome Diego to PugHearts This stout 3 year old is absolutely gorgeous and right now he’s all puppy!

He learned fast and aims to please, so I foresee him catching on quick to boundaries and structure.

Diego is a healthy 22 pounds with the best little face.

Unfortunately he does have heartworms, meaning his time with me will be a little longer, but that’s ok!

Diego does have an old knee injury, with recommendations of a daily joint supplement for maintenance, but other than that he is med free.

He has done well with the group, slept in the big bed and went in the crate with no issues during a Mother’s Day lunch trip to G-Town!

I’m excited to get to know him and share more about this cutie pie!

He totally reminds me of one my my HBC/Ortho fosters named Bumper!

Diego will be adoption ready end of summer and he would love a forever home waiting on him!

Introducing Foster Bianca Bianca is a 12-month-old pocket-sized princess, weighing in at just 13 pounds of pure enchantment.

When she arrived last night, fresh from her spay, she was a quiet, sleepy little angel.

But this morning?

A brand new dog emerged—bright-eyed, tail wagging, and so ready to take on the world!

She mastered the doggy door like a pro and has already accepted the wild and wonderful chaos that is her foster brothers.

But let’s talk about the derp—Bianca has the most adorable little tongue that pops out just enough to melt your heart.

This tiny beauty is the total package smart, sweet, silly, and oh-so-ready for her forever family.

Don’t wait on this girl… she’s magical and affordable (for now).

Adopt her before the price increase in June!

Ok, I just can't take this cuteness.

When I saw the picture of all the puppy mill dogs we were getting his picture was grainy and not clear but I thought he looked like he was really cute.

So contrary to the no male rule, (they are usually not nice to Charlie) I decided I'd give him a chance over the weekend.

Please welcome Giovanni to a life he didn't know existed.

He's a little afraid and timid but he seems to like to be close to me and loved.

I think I'm in love!

Giovanni is a 2 year old heartworm negative and neutered male.

I'll give him some time to decompress and post more as his personality starts to show.

I think he's going to be wonderful!
