Carter (4867)

No special needs

Meet Carter Carter is a 10-year-old chunky little gentleman FULL of personality.

He has the sweetest little smile, makes hilarious facial expressions, and does tiny happy hops when he wants to tell you something.

He still plays with toys like a puppy, loves belly rubs, cozy couch cuddles with a blanket, and snacks (he has a soft spot for Chick-fil-A, though he’s on a diet!).

He’s a total ham, but has excellent couch manners and can fit into a home whether dogs are allowed on furniture or not.

Carter came to PugHearts as an owner surrender alongside another senior pug when his family went through some life changes.

He gets along WONDERFULLY with other dogs and cats and would do best in a calmer home without young kids, as he has some arthritis that makes him a little wobbly.

He may need help getting on and off furniture to stay safe!

He may be slightly hard of hearing, but he learns quickly with hand signals and positive reinforcement.

He does get a little vocal when he wants something (did I mention the Chic-fil-a..?)

but we are actively working on correcting that with him.

Carter is also making great progress with housetraining, as he is almost ready to graduate from the belly band only 2 days into being with his foster.

Crate training is going well and he sleeps wonderfully through the night!

He’ll go home neutered, heartworm negative, and with a simple routine that includes daily eye drops and arthritis medication as needed.

Carter has a minor procedure scheduled for 4/30 to remove a few small lumps and bumps, but nothing is slowing him down from living his best life today!

If you’re looking for a squishy, funny, food-obsessed cuddle buddy with endless personality, Carter is absolutely your guy!

No special needs

HOSPICE Lila is a 9 yr old female that comes to PugHearts after being found wandering all alone.

She appears to have some problems with her back legs and is being monitored by the vet.

Lila is, happily, heartworm negative.

From Lila's foster: Meet Lila - our gorgeous Lila!!

She is a very happy, healthy 9 yr old that loves to play and cuddle and run - everywhere she goes!!

Lila is a special needs pug that has some neurological issues with her back legs.

We are not sure if this is due to an injury or birth - be please do not let this deter you from adopting her!!

She does not let this slow her down one bit!!

The biggest issue is elimination, as she is not always aware of pooping.

Lila does squat to urinate, but then hops about 3ft while going.

If she is leashed and you hold her, she will finish then move on.

She will also stand up when asked!

This sweet girl is a treasure and we are hoping that someone will give her a chance at a family - she deserves her own family and loves with her whole heart!

No special needs

In 2017, a young one-year-old pug named Drogo (renamed Willie) found his forever home through PugHearts.

For nearly ten years, Willie lived exactly the life we hope for every dog who comes through our rescue—a life filled with love, comfort, and family.

Sometimes life changes in ways that no one can predict or control.

A few years ago, Willie's mom passed away.

His dad continued to love and care for him, but recently he had to move into a care facility and could no longer keep his beloved companion.

This is where one of the most important promises PugHearts makes comes into play.

ANY PUG, AT ANY AGE, IN ANY CONDITION , AT ANY TIME.

No questions asked.

No judgment.

No expiration date on our commitment.

Willie was my foster when he was adopted all those years ago, and now he is once again my foster.

While we never wanted him to lose the family he loved, we’re grateful that when his family needed help, there was somewhere for him to go.

PugHearts doesn’t just rescue dogs—we stand behind them for life.

Whether they’re brand-new intakes arriving from difficult situations or returning years later because circumstances have changed, they still belong to the PugHearts family.

There will always be a safe place waiting for them.

Welcome back, sweet Willie .

You are loved, you are safe, and you will never have to wonder where you belong.

Mushu (5649)
paw icon

Female

13 years old

No special needs

HOSPICE This 13-year-old lady is Mushu, and don’t let her age fool you—she’s still a wild child at heart.

Whether she’s chasing lizards, digging through the bathroom trash, refusing to be kenneled, or sneak-attacking her toys, Mushu lives each day with a spark that makes it impossible not to smile.

To her foster mom, who lovingly calls her Mushi Mushi, she is absolutely perfect.

Sadly, life has not been nearly as kind to Mushu as Mushu has been to everyone around her.

Back in April, just a few weeks after being surrendered to Pug Hearts for the second time (she was with us nearly 10 years ago), Mushu suddenly began vomiting blood—far more than anyone could have imagined.

Her foster mom rushed her to the ER, where doctors discovered a bleeding ulcer.

What followed were several long days and nights in the hospital, including a blood transfusion to save her from severe internal bleeding.

During that ordeal, Mushu was diagnosed with suspected stomach cancer.

Then, as if she hadn’t already endured enough, she began bleeding from her right nostril.

We now believe she also has a nasal tumor obstructing her nasal passage.

Despite everything she has faced, Mushu continues to greet each day with happiness and resilience.

With medication, we have been able to keep her comfortable, and she still finds joy in the little things she has always loved.

While her time may be limited, one thing is certain: Mushu will spend the rest of her life surrounded by love with her foster mom, who cherishes her more than words can express.

PugHearts' commitment to caring for dogs at the end of their lives, regardless of the medical expenses involved, is truly remarkable.

If you feel inclined, please consider donating to support these sweet hospice angels.

Tessa (6132)
paw icon

Female

paw icon

1 years old

paw icon

With special needs

MEDICAL HOLD Tessa came to PugHearts from San Antonio back in November as a 7 week old puppy with a prolapsed rectum.

A prolapse will typically occur in puppies that haven’t been properly dewormed, causing severe diarrhea.

A purse string was put in by the vet in San Antonio prior to her transport to Houston.

What is a purse string?

Think of it as a drawstring in her rectum to hold her insides in, similar to holding the contents of a bag in place.

This is so important because the longer that the bowls are out, the more necrotic the tissue becomes.

The purse string stayed in for 2 weeks and less than 48 hours after it was out, Tessa prolapsed again.

She was rushed back to our vet to have an additional purse string.

This is when we assumed the problem was bigger than we thought and it was discovered that Tessa has no muscle tone in her rectum.

This purse string stayed in for 3 weeks, and this time she prolapsed less than 24 hours from removal.

I became quite versed in pushing her colon back inside her body every time she prolapsed, until her emergency surgery was performed the following day.

Dr. Hendrix performed a Coloplexy on Tessa, essentially pulling and tacking the colon to the abdominal wall and leaving no room for an additional prolapse to occur.

Since this surgery, we have been finding out all the additional problems Tessa has, and assume she born with this defect.

She has a total collapse of the 7th vertebrae leading into her pelvis causing nerve damage to the colon, which also gives her a funny gait and a spastic neurogenic colon.

She has the urge to poop all the time, and will posture constantly with some, little or nothing coming out.

It ends up on her, the other dogs, me and the wall on occasion.

She has to have her anal glands manually expressed on a weekly basis because her body can’t do it.

She will never be able to jump on and off the furniture or use stairs.

There’s mornings that I want to scream and cry while I’m scrubbing poop, but then I see her and everything is worth it.

We’ve treated her with prednisone and metronidazole to no avail, and we currently have her on Tylan which has helped the consistency be more formed.

She is on a strict diet of GI high energy wet food and Biome If Tessa hadn’t found her way to PugHearts, she would not be here.

There is no information on treating this condition because most dogs would have died or been euthanized.

PugHearts is fighting for Tessa and we are doing everything that we can to help her.

It’s not cheap, Her dog food is almost $80 a bag, but this little baby deserves the best.

SLPH accepts manufacturers coupons for the Hill’s Science Diet food, if you’d like to donate those at the clinic.

I had $15 worth today!

Today Tessa had her last booster.

At this point, most puppies would be ready for adoption.

Tessa is not.

We’ve concluded that Tessa might not ever be adoptable, but we also aren’t calling her hospice.

It’s unknown what Tessa might have to tackle next and with Pughearts and me as her foster, we will be ready to take on anything, but it’s not a burden we want future adopters to have to face.

Tessa is my baby.

She is spoiled rotten just like she’s suppose to be.

She spends the majority of her day being held or in my lap, and sleeps every night curled around my neck.

Please consider donating to Tessa’s care.

She deserves the world and PugHearts is going to give it to her

HOSPICE Since Callie joined us in April 2022, she has lost an impressive 9 pounds, been diagnosed with Cushing's, is receiving daily meds that have leveled out or eliminated the majority of her symptoms.

Those symptoms consisted of nearly constant panting, excessive hunger and thirst, poor hair coat, restlessness, skin irritations, weight gain, and pot bellied appearance.

She will needs these meds for life.

She continues to be the bossiest, most active pug here (saying a lot, considering the pair of puppy foster girls), with daily toy box raids.

Her now plush coat will keep her pretty and warm as we delve into a long deserved Texas winter.

She's the most interactive, funny foster to ever dawn my doorstep.

We welcome her antics as long as she wants to entertain us.

HOSPICE Hi y'all, Chiquita here.

I'm around 12 years old.

I'm a tiny, fat girl.

I'm very petite, as they call me.

I weigh about 10 pounds, but I am a little over weight for my size.

I came to PugHearts after being left at a shelter with injuries to both my eyes.

I had to have 1 eye removed and the other I don't see much out of.

I also had to have emergency surgery because I had a prolapsed vagina.

I'm feeling much better now.

We are still trying to get somethings taken care of, but FoMo and FoPa both say I'm showing my sweet little demanding personality just because I really love to be held and sit with people.

I don't think that it demanding.

I'm currently on medical hold, while we get some other medical issues worked out, so it will be a while before I'm ready for adoption.

Welcome!

PugHearts Dean aka Mr. Debonair Dean.

I initially picked him up from a wonderful couple that saved him.

Their pug was missing and decided to save him because the finder had him in the trunk of a car.

He was in bad shape and called PugHearts.

Good news is that they found their pug.

They loved him from the moment they saw him and was grateful to save this baby.

I decided I couldn't let him stay in the clinic and became his foster.

Dean is 6 years old.

Dean will have a long journey, we really don't know how he lived before coming to PugHearts.

Our vet is trying to pinpoint where the head tilt and imbalance are coming from.

They will try to rule out chronic inner ear infection or a brainstem issues.

He was fleas infested but we took care of that, he also has bald patches throughout his body and could use about 1 lb.

or 2.

He sleeps well in the crate and we're working on a potty routine.

He wants to thank everyone for their donations and send hugs and kisses to all.

Stay tuned for his care journey.

Please Welcome Sherry to PugHearts!

Sherry is an 11 year old Pug Mix that came to PugHearts from a local shelter.

She was found as a stray with a broken leg and the shelter doctor did surgery to fix it.

She has healed fairly well and is only on a daily joint supplement to help with possible arthritis later on.

We’re not sure what Sherry is mixed with, but her wispy, wire coat make us believe there’s Terrier of some sort.

She has the most beautiful apricot coloring, perfectly lazy pug curly tail and a smile that lights up a room.

Sherry does well with other dogs, but would be perfect as the only child as well.

There’s not a mean or aggressive bone in her body and sometimes even the crazy little puppies can boss her around.

Sherry loves being outside laying in the sun, and will spend her mornings catching all the rays she can get.

Sherry is crate trained, and will go in on command of if she needs to get away from the excitement for a while.

She is house trained, and will go to the door waiting to be let out to do her business.

Sherry loves treats and is working hard on not taking off your finger in the process of getting one!

Nylabones and chew toys make her the happiest!

Sherry was spayed early on, and it appears she was really loved at one time, which makes her ending up as an injured stray in the shelter even sadder.

She is fully up to date on vaccines and is a healthy and happy little girl.

I know someone is out there wanting to give Sherry a home, and she deserves to be loved and spoiled, with plenty of couch cuddles and kisses!

She is learning to go into her kennel to eat, doing great with her housebreaking (no accidents!

), and she is learning how to seek attention in a calm manner.

This girl is smart and picks up routines and commands quickly.

She does want to be the boss, so no other alpha dogs in the house please.

Entropion surgery was to correct his eyelids that curled inwards, causing irrigation.

He does have a small scar on his left eye, but it doesn't affect him at all.

Charlie is very lovable and enjoys belly scratches!

He knows the doggy door and does well with consistency.

He plays well with other dogs and children.

We've also learned that he isn't afraid of fireworks and will run around the yard to chase the noises coming from the neighboring area.

Charlie also loves toys and giving kisses.

He is very food motivated and does very well in his crate.

This sweet boy is patiently waiting for the perfect family.

Please welcome Caleb to PugHearts.

Foster Caleb is approximately 3. years old and came to PugHearts as an owner surrender through no fault of his own.

He also enjoys his down time too and loves to cuddle with his humans.

He has a sweet personality and can be quite fun and entertaining.

Caleb is crate trained and sleeps quietly all night long.

He gets along with all dogs; he has not been exposed to cats yet so we cannot determine if he’s ok around them.

Caleb would be fine around older children in the home, but we do advise monitoring around toddlers at first given his young age.

Caleb might be fine as an only dog but has not been assessed in an “only dog” environment since being in his foster home.

I'm going to reintroduce #phGrant back to y'all!

He is about 6yo, calm kind of chill kind of let's watch a movie and eat popcorn type of guy.

He was with us before for a few weeks and did great.

He unfortunately has been returned to PugHearts and he's looking for his really real forever home.

What's he looking for?

He's looking for a comfy donut bed, some chews and stuffies, some kind and mature love, the kind that isn't loud or rough or too spicy.

He likes to play and patrol the fence like most pugs.

He also prefers ladies I'm told but at my house he actually preferred foster dad.

My kiddo is 9yo and she's petting him in one of the pics.

I am happy to have him back and help him find his really real forever home this time.

And for info, he's giving me vibes of weekend Home Depot shopping trips along with some fall brewery visits on a nice weather.

He was a sweetheart at today's event.

He may feel overprotective at time so we will work on that but know that whoever adopts him will have to provide a secure environment that understands his body language so Grant doesn't feel like he needs to protect you.

More like he wants to feel he's protected by you, the Alpha.

If that's you, let's have a meet and greet and see where things take us.

Addison here, I’m 6 years old and looking for my forever home.

I was abandoned in an apartment when my former people moved out.

FoMo and FoPa call me “The Dancing Queen”.

Because I kinda dance around my back legs move around making my backend and tail look like I’m dancing.

They keep trying to take a video, but one of my foster brothers and or sisters always wants in on the action.

I'm a small girl around 16 lbs.

I look chunky, because I am, hehehe.

Yes I need to lose a pound or 2, that would also help with my breathing.

You see I do have a collapsing trachea.

I do not take meds for that.

I do take meds to help with the pH of my urine.

I am puppy pad trained, but I also go outside too.

Fawn colored and high energy.

He gets along well with other dogs, both small and large and loves children.

He walks on leash very well.

Pickles is SUPER excited about food and treats and is learning that he can count on getting meals regularly so that he doesn't have to scavenge for them in the trash cans or take others.

He currently sleeps in a kennel and has no complaints.

He really barks and is easy to quiet.

He is working on his potty manners and once he is neutered, we are confident he will be a pro since he is already using the doggie door.

Nelly (8098)

Nelly joined our home as a foster about 6 weeks ago.

She had been found as an underweight stray in New Caney.

She has been spayed as well as having had the nares and palate surgery performed to set her out on the right tract.

Nelly came to us presenting an interesting behavior of swirling very quickly apparently trying to do harm to her tail.

Well, she doesn’t want to harm herself.

The twirling and tail chasing happen when she is suddenly startled or is overwhelmed with a situation.

AND sometimes when she is irritated at me.

After 6 weeks Nelly rarely settles into the twirl except when she is happily expecting food.

Nelly is now totally potty trained and additionally uses the dog door to go to the backyard to potty on her own.

She is VERY treat trainable.

This funny little girl is so smart that she will next next to where she did potty and wait for me to come with a treat.

I think Nelly was used to being alone.

She has nothing much to do with the 3 other dogs in my house.

I have also realized that she is not a fan of being held or cuddled.

However, wherever I am in the house, she is right there on the floor next to me.

We haven’t had any fights.

I am slowly working on getting her used to being held.

She is working on taking turns at feeding and snack times.

She can swoop in so quickly to snatch a food treat.

I feed her in a dog pen at mealtime.

I feel so positive about how far Nelly has come along in 6 weeks.

Autumn here, I am about 7 years old and weigh 13 pounds.

I come to PugHearts as an owner surrender through no fault of mine.

I am heartworm negative.

I have a large arch in my back and Luxating patella, but I walk and get around great, I even run.

I love being with people, but I am a little shy until I get to know you.

I get along fine with the other pugs here.

FoMo says I'm just a wonderful little lady and that I am just the cutest little thing.

She just loves the tad of white on my toes.

I'm looking for my forever home.

I love my food and big, comfy, fluffy dog beds.

Sitting in my people's lap is one of my favorite things.

Will your lap be my favorite place to be?

I took one look at Sprite's picture and knew she is my kind of foster.

Sprite was in a shelter in the RGV, is 15 years old, 9 pounds, blind, diabetic, HW+, has skin/hair issues, dry eye and can be a real bitch.

She totally hates one of the puppies I have.

And she is without a doubt one of the most perfect pugs I have ever laid eyes on.

We are monitoring her sugar and trying to get it stabilized.

She takes insulin 2X at day at 7am and 7pm.

I have alarms set and I think she's figured out when they go off she's going to get fed, she gets super excited.

Her diet is strictly monitored and she gets nothing but her food.

She acts like she's starving all the time but I think she has put on a little bit of padding in the last week.

I hope once she can be bathed her hair will begin to fill in.

But she is absolutely beautiful just as she is!

Sprite is never very far from my side.

She is either on the couch with me, in bed with me or following me around and trying to make me fall and break a hip.

As I said above she can be very bitchy so I have lovingly given her the nickname of Sassy Pants (I cleaned that up from what I originally called her).

I love my BBBB girls, Beautiful, Black, Blind, Bitches.

Sprite is an amazing old lady and I hope there are several years ahead of her to be spoiled and know love.

Good morning everyone.

I'm Hugo da Boss.

I'm 1 year old, 13 pounds, and full of puppy energy.

I had my neuter, nares, and palate done last week, so I am ready for YOU!

I love playing with toys, running around the backyard, and these things called morning walks.

Over the last 4 days, my house manners have improved dramatically.

I'm extremely smart, if I do say so myself.

By the way, I'm completely blind, but it only took me a couple of hours to map out the house and the yard and I very rarely bump into anything.

Honestly, I don't understand what all the fuss is about.

Being blind hasn't slowed me down one bit.

FOMO says if you miss your opportunity to adopt me, you are missing out on one of the bestest boys EVER!

You can wait to possibly see me at Pugs On The Bayou, but if you wait, you might just miss out on the best thing that could ever happen to you cause I might just be of the market by then.

Huckleberry (bio) is around 18 to 24 months old.

He is an owner surrender that needs a home with only maybe just one more dog or maybe two.

He is a little shy and seems to like it best when he is the only dog around the human.

He is getting better though.

He has been with me only a few days and needs time to settle in.

He has a bad eye and is HW+, so he has to go through treatment and get neutered and they will decide what to do about his eye.

He is cute and is very friendly.

Meet Derek!

Derek is a handsome 5 year old boy with a gorgeous apricot coat.

He has a such sweet manner about him.

Not sure of his previous life, but he seems to not really understand what it’s like to have a loving family.

He’s coming around quickly though, and loves to sit with his people and pug friends.

He has a goofy side, loves toys and sleeps in the funniest positions.

He crates well, and seems housebroken, although he’s marking occasionally.

This is improving now that he’s neutered!

He is squishy, with the softest fur and now that it’s grown back, his coloring is adorably unique, with white socks that just add to his cuteness and….no more HUMPING.

This beautiful boy is healthy, talkative and at 6 years old, he ready to start his new life with his new family!

Sunny is about 4 years old, balanced energy level, very food driven, smart and trainable, great with all humans and gets along with other pugs.

She met a cat and she ignored the cat, but her foster doesn't have cats.

She is growing her fur again, after fleas, and gaining some weight.

She was picked up as a stray in the hard streets of Houston, so she is heartworm positive.

She will be treated and be ready for her forever home by early August.

She has mastered our routines to perfection including crate, potty outside with zero accidents inside the house since welcoming her here, and honestly she's just perfection.

For those curious, she is getting along great with my kid, my senior pugs and my younger pug.

She also spend a whole day with visitors of all ages including other dogs and did great, she followed me everywhere like a great little host and helper.

Therefore, I recommend her future family to me one with medium level of activity to keep her engaged physically and mentally.

She's very smart and food driven so I suspect she can pick up a sport or a trade in the pug therapy (or just work at being cute) very quickly.

Don't let this beautiful sweet soul pass you by.

The queen of sass and the quiet stealer of hearts — once you earn her trust, this tiny-but-mighty little love will claim you forever.

June is still searching for her very special someone, and she needs a person who understands that her journey looks a little different from your typical pug.

June can be reactive, very shy, and easily overwhelmed.

New people make her nervous, and she needs time — real, patient time — to decompress and feel safe.

She won’t come to you right away, but she will come when she feels secure, understood, and ready.

After 10 months with us, one thing is certain: June thrives on love, predictability, and trust.

She needs a calm home without small children or loud, chaotic environments.

She’s not a day-one snuggler, but she becomes a lifelong companion once she feels safe and confident in her home.

When June finally settles in, her true self shines — quirky, loyal, expressive, and full of spicy personality.

She just needs someone willing to meet her where she is and give her the time she needs to adjust.

June would also do beautifully with another dog in the home; she truly thrives around furry companions.

If you believe the best relationships are earned, not rushed, Junie-Bee might be the girl who changes your heart forever.

She is blind.

She is underweight.

She comes to us as a local shelter dump, I suspect because she aged out of making puppies for profit.

She has lots of healing to do and groceries to eat.

But already she wags.

Slight smile detected.

Leash manners noted.

Hope exuded.

Greatness expected.

After just a few days here, Ruth reveals her spunk with a good game of bite my bed, then falls asleep randomly with her head in her bowl.

She is very attentive and attached to me already.

She displays some fear of other pugs, but wags like crazy every time she does not see me.

Don't discount the blind and broken among our stock.

They have just as much love and humor to share.

Welcome foster Jameson to PugHearts!

Jameson (who we are already calling Jamie) was abandoned in a dog park around Halloween and has finally been sprung from our vet after getting treated for worms and a respiratory infection and waiting for a foster home to open up.

We believe he is around 5 years old.

So far we know he loves to play with toys, gets along great with his new dog foster brothers (the pugs as well as our 40lb doodle) and loves his 10yo human foster brother.

He was a little fearful of my husband at first, but warmed up within minutes once he offered him a treat.

He is great at the fetching part of fetch, not so much the returning.

Sadly Jameson is heartworm positive as well as being underweight with a pretty beat up coat at this point.

He will neutered in a few weeks and will be ready for adoption in February/March timeframe once he completes heartworm treatment and crate rest.

In the meantime we will get him a bit fattened up and healthier all around and help him settle in and realize he is safe and starting to live the good life!

Please Welcome Imelda Imelda arrived this afternoon from the RGV.

It has been a long time since the condition of a foster has created such rage and disgust in me.

What in the Sam Hill is the human race coming to???

Imelda has massive scabs and bleeding wounds all over just from itching!

And her head is entirely covered in skin that is raw and scabby.

I can't pet her without hitting one of them.

It's not often that I cry on the way home with a new foster.

I immediately gave her a medicated bath and let it soak in for 20 minutes to see if it would give her some relief.

I'm pretty sure bathing is a foreign concept to her.

She's now in pj's to hopefully stop her from making herself bleed.

She goes to the vet tomorrow for intake and we'll know more about her condition after that.

What we know now: Imelda is thought to be around 12.

She has had untreated demodex for a very long time She has blood in her urine She has severe dental disease that will likely cost her most of her teeth.

Looks like her eyes haven't been cared for Heartworms ?

More than likely ??

Probably not spayed I am so angry that she has been so neglected for a very large part of her life, maybe forever.

It looks like she may have been a mother many times over so she may come from a puppy mill or backyard breeder.

But now that my rant is over, negativity doesn't do anything for Imelda and raises my blood pressure.

She is where she needs to be now.

PugHearts will make sure she receives the medical attention she so desperately needs and I will make sure she is loved and taught that some people care and will keep her safe.

Thank you to JV for getting her out of the shelter and driving all the way to Houston today with her.

She is such a pretty girl and I'm so excited to see her personality develop and to see her all healed and ready to find a home that she has no idea exists for h

Please welcome Kristoff to PugHearts.

Foster Kristoff is estimated to be around 6 years old and came to PugHearts after he was found wandering the streets.

He is very spunky and loves to be in the know of what’s happening around his foster home.

Thankfully he is heart worm negative, but his time on the streets did leave him with a lingering cough after an upper respiratory infection.

He will need to be neutered after he is completely recovered.

Kristoff is a sweetheart that gets along with the other dogs in his foster home and loves to walk around in the backyard.

He really enjoys spending time cuddled with his humans.

He is crate trained and sleeps quietly all night long.

And he is potty trained and has not had any accidents in his foster home.

Please give a warm PugHearts’ welcome to Remington.

This sweet boy came to us after his owner sadly passed away, and from the moment he arrived, it was clear he was deeply loved.

At 9 years old, Remington is a beautiful boy with the softest expression and a heart to match.

Remington gets along wonderfully with other dogs, lights up when you call his name (the head tilts are truly unmatched), and sleeps quietly through the night.

Even though he won’t be ready for adoption for a few more weeks, he truly deserves a special family to call his very own.

We are still getting to know this handsome fella, but welcome PugHearts, Remington — we’re so glad you are here!

Meet Shanti Shanti is a happy, playful 6-year-old pug who believes life is better when you’re close to the people you love.

And by close… she means right next to you.

Shanti thrives on human connection and wants nothing more than to be involved in whatever you’re doing—whether that’s relaxing on the couch, moving around the house, or heading out for a walk.

She’s affectionate, attentive, and full of enthusiasm.

Shanti can get easily excited and a little impatient when she’s eager for attention or fun, but that just adds to her charm.

Her joyful personality and bright spirit make her a constant source of smiles.

Shanti is heartworm positive and awaiting her spay, but she doesn’t let that dampen her outlook on life.

She’s playful, loving, and hopeful for a future where she feels safe, cherished, and truly at home.

Shanti would do best with someone who enjoys an affectionate, people-focused dog and is happy to give her the attention she craves.

In return, she’ll offer loyalty, companionship, and a whole lot of love.

If you’re looking for a pug who will make you feel like the center of her world, Shanti is ready to meet you.

Meet Stella!

Sweet Stella is a happy girl, her tail a constant blur, but sadly she came to PugHearts with a laundry list of health issues.

Topping the list is severe heartworm disease which has caused an enlarged heart, pulmonary hypertension, increased exertion to breath, and anemia.

Spay, palate, and nares surgeries are on hold until her body is stronger.

We’re also working on putting some much-needed weight on Stella.

As you can see in the photo, her ribs and hips are clearly visible.

Stella is happy to comply - she loves food!

The vets at Sugar Land Pet Hospital have worked hard to get Stella stabilized but she has a long road ahead of her.

Continue to follow Stella’s journey as we get her ready for her fur-ever.

Welcome Tillie Tillie came to PugHearts a few weeks ago as an owner surrender.

Her right eye had a significant ulcer and despite the owners efforts it was not improving.

They wanted Tillie to have the best chance of keeping the eye so she came to us.

Tillie is 3 months old today.

She had an eye check yesterday and thanks to Dr. Hruzek we are now confident that she will NOT become a winky!!!

This baby is a force all in a new class of her own.

She is constantly moving, thinking and getting into anything she can find.

She is also a land shark, she still has needle puppy teeth and we're working to direct her mouth to appropriate chewies and toys.

She is more fun to have around than I can describe.

Tillie is a very happy, healthy and beautiful pug.

She weighs 5 pounds and is a little on the smaller side right now.

She will be available for adoption in a few months once she has been spayed and has her last round of vaccinations.

If you're an active family and want to add pure sweetness to your life, Tillie is your baby.

Please welcome Herbert to Pug Hearts.

He is a nine year-old, owner surrender, that came in a week or so ago.

And he's fantastic!

I call him Herbie and he has a fantastic personality.

He is always alert, he is very loving, he has big bright eyes, he cocks his head, perks his ears, and interacts with me on a regular basis.

He is an extremely active 9 yo.

Herbie has a broken jaw.

He went in on Monday to have his teeth cleaned and to let our vet do a thorough examination of what was going on with his jaw.

His jaw is not able to be fixed, but he seems to have adapted very well to it, it's been a while since it was broken and not fixed.

Herbie is the second foster I have right now with a broken jaw, the first one is Bud.

They're both great dogs, they eat kibble, they eat milk bones, and they play with toys.

They have completely adapted to the issue with their mouth and it doesn't bother them in the least.

And I think the tongue is adorable.

Sadly, Herbie is heartworm positive, so he will not be available until the April/May timeframe.

If you're thinking about adopting a pug this is a perfect timeframe for when school's out for the summer and you are spending more time on the home and with family activities.

Keep him on your list, I strongly recommend if you want an active pug that has his quiet moments to take a long hard look at him.

Agnes (8612)

HOSPICE Agnes is a 10-year-old sweetheart who is finally getting to enjoy the softer side of life.

She came to us blind, deaf, heartworm positive, suffering from degenerative disc disease that caused weakness and decreased mobility in her back legs, and in horrific dental condition.

She also had a large oronasal fistula.

Since then, she has completed heartworm treatment, had her eyes stabilized with multiple medications, undergone repair of her oronasal fistula, and received extensive dental care, including many extractions.

However, since arriving in January, we have been unable to resolve a recurring cough and drainage from the left side of her face.

While searching for the cause, we discovered a large, inoperable mass in Agnes’ lungs, making her a hospice patient.

Thankfully, she loves life in my home, especially cuddling with my own senior pug, whom she adores.

With medication, lots of love, and plenty of snacks, we have been able to keep her comfortable.

Agnes is a very special girl, and we are grateful she was saved by PugHearts.

Their commitment to caring for dogs at the end of their lives, regardless of the medical expenses involved, is truly remarkable.

If you feel inclined, please consider donating to support these sweet hospice angels.

He has a very easy-going temperament and loves to snuggle with his people.

If one of his people works from home, he will gladly keep you company throughout the day (though he may alert you to delivery drivers).

Charles does well with other dogs.

It's time to introduce 3 year old foster Marty.

This handsome hunk has been with PugHearts for a few weeks now.

He came to us after being found on the streets limping.

Turns out that limping was due to a broken front left leg (humerus fracture).

We're not sure exactly what happened because he had no other apparent injuries that would point to something specific (i.e.

road rash from being hit by a car, bruising from something wrapped around the leg, or wounds from a dogfight).

Regardless of the reason, he is now safe with us and has already started to heal.

His leg was repaired at Sugar Land Per Hospital almost 2 weeks ago, and he's doing great with crate rest.

He spends 99% of his day in the crate while his leg heals, and he's such a calm, well behaved boy about it!

We even had 20 ppl over on Saturday night and he just chilled in the living room crate and enjoyed the laughter.

As you can see, he loves it when he is allowed out of the crate; soaks in the sunshine, snuggles with his foster bros, or adorably asks me for more attention.

Unfortunately he is heartworm positive, so it will be a few months before he is medically cleared for adoption.

Stay tuned for this boy's progress, so far he appears to be a really chill, well adjusted dog that just wants love!

Welcome to Gladys I picked Gladys up from a local shelter as a found pug.

She immediately showed how sweet she is and pretty much stole my heart.

Gladys is 7 years old and weighs 12 pounds.

She is quite alert and nothing slips by her scrutiny.

I just love having a foster like her.

She is so much fun to just sit and watch.

This picture is how she was just sitting there looking at me.

Gladys gets along with all the other fosters but seems to be more of a loner so far.

She is very well behaved in the crate without a peep out of her.

And drum roll.... so far she appears to be house trained.

It is so great to get one that is well behaved.

Gladys is a sweetheart and will be a wonderful addition to a home.

I have no doubt that she has been a pug who lived in a home and has settled in here like she's been here forever.

Sadly, she is heartworm positive, so she will not be available for adoption until late June or early July.

You definitely need to keep this little treasure in mind if you want to adopt this summer.

She is learning how to live in a loving home and will need to start heartworm treatment, BUT she is worth keeping your eyes on.

Shelly’s bio Hey y’all, I’m Shelly.

I’m 6 years old.

I’m about 12 pounds and skinny.

FOMO is trying to put some weight on me so my ribs are not showing as much.

I love my food, so that shouldn’t take long.

I was found and had bad eyes, so when I came to PugHearts I had to have one of my eyes removed.

So I’m a Winky.

I don’t see well out of the other one, but can see some.

That doesn’t stop me.

I’m heart worm negative, just got spayed and ready for my forever home I do good with the other pugs here.

I love to sit next to you or in your lap.

I find a toy from time to time and play with them.

Even with my limited eyesight I can jump on the couch and off.

I love to be with people and will follow you wherever you go So if you are looking for, as FOMO says, a sweetheart, I’m your girl!

Please welcome Millie I made a trip to Victoria last week to pick up Millie.

Can you even believe how gorgeous she is.

Millie is thought to be between 6 & 8 months and weighs around 7 pounds.

She was an OS surrendered because of health issues.

It was very obvious that she had a UTI because she was peeing blood.

She is now on antibiotics and CD food and this issue should be cleared up in no time.

She also has other issues that we have to investigate.

It is thought that she was kicked in the head and she's having trouble with what could be focal seizures.

However, there are a vast amount of things that it could be and we are just investigating everything possible at this time.

Sadly, she is on medical hold and will not be available for adoption until we know what is wrong with her.

Keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

She sure is a sweet little girl.

Foster Shea Update It’s hard to believe that this tiny, 12-month-old girl—just 10 pounds has already overcome more than most dogs ever should.

After being dragged by a car and suffering degloving injuries to both of her back paws, Shea’s story could have ended very differently.

She had an owner who failed her… but thankfully, she also has a whole team now who refuses to.

And last night?

Last night felt like a turning point.

Shea slept soundly in her little pen, peaceful and content, as if she finally knows she’s safe.

No fear, no restlessness just rest.

The kind her body has been needing for so long.

Even more incredible, she is walking so well.

Watching her take those steps after everything she’s been through feels nothing short of miraculous.

Her wounds are healing beautifully, and honestly… in just a couple more weeks, you won’t even be able to tell what she endured.

But the best part?

Her spirit.

She absolutely adores the other dogs and lights up around them.

There’s a sweetness and resilience in her that you can’t teach it’s just who she is.

Shea still has a journey ahead, especially with her heartworm treatment, so she won’t be ready for a couple of months.

But we know her perfect forever family is out there… and she’s already accepting applications Because a dog this special?

She deserves a home that will love her the way she should have been loved all along.

Shea is proof that even the most broken beginnings can turn into something beautiful.

This weekend, our home opened to a new little soul — sweet Iris.

Life shifted for her, and that’s how she found her way to PugHearts.

From the moment she arrived, we knew she was something special.

Iris is only eight years old, but carries a few health issues with her: she’s heartworm positive and will begin treatment later this month.

And most recently, she braved a dental cleaning and lost 11 teeth — yet her tiny bottom teefs remain, which makes me smile every time I look at her.

We’re still learning about this doll, but one thing is certain: Iris will be safe, loved, and well cared for by us until her forever family finds her.

Here’s to new beginnings, healing hearts, and the joy of second chances.

So welcome to PugHearts, sweet Iris, we are so glad you’re here!

Please welcome Foster Ellie to PugHearts.

Tiny little Ellie weighs only 13 pounds and has the sweetest small frame.

She spent much of her life as a breeder dog.

Her body showed the signs of that life, and her skin was in rough shape when she arrived, but with good care, proper nutrition, and love, she is improving more every single day.

Ellie was recently spayed and is continuing to recover nicely.

She is heartworm positive, so she will not be available for adoption until she completes her treatment, but she is already stealing hearts everywhere she goes.

Despite everything she’s been through, this little girl is absolutely adorable and deserves a future filled with comfort, kindness, and love.

Donnie is new to Pug Hearts, but he’s no stranger to being loved.

He spent many, many years in a home before finding himself here due to circumstances beyond his control.

At 10 years old, it’s understandable that this transition has been a bit overwhelming.

He’s doing well, but you can see he’s still trying to make sense of it all.

Donnie is healthy overall, though he could stand to lose a little weight, and he’s hoping to find a family who will help him on that journey—giving him the care, stability, and love he deserves in this next chapter of his life.

He may be a little confused right now, but underneath it all is a loyal companion just waiting to feel at home again.

Lettie, also known as “Lettie Spaghetti,” came to PugHearts as an owner surrender from the RGV, and she settled into foster life almost immediately.

She quickly learned the rules, routines, and expectations of her foster home, proving just how smart and eager to please she is.

This food-motivated girl is a fast learner who enjoys training and thrives with positive guidance.

At 5 years old, Lettie has a higher energy level and is currently working on polished leash manners instead of pulling like a little plow horse.

She would excel with continued training, advanced tricks, agility, or other activities that keep both her mind and body engaged.

Lettie has impeccable house manners — zero accidents and no destructive chewing.

After a few gentle redirections early on, she learned to respect the space and pack order of the mostly senior dogs in her foster home and now coexists peacefully.

She will do best with calm, consistent boundaries, as her confident personality may otherwise encourage her to test the alpha role.

Is she active?

Absolutely.

But one of the best things about Lettie is her ability to switch gears completely.

After playtime or activity, she’s perfectly content to snooze on the couch all afternoon or sleep quietly through the night in her crate.

Sweet, silly, snuggly, smart, and athletic, Lettie Spaghetti truly is the total package — the perfect pug!

Meet Mrs. Spencer!

For a little pug who was found wandering the streets all by herself, Mrs. Spencer has an impressively big personality.

This adorable 5-year-old, 12-pound girl is sweet, funny, opinionated, and just the right amount of sassy.

She keeps everyone around her laughing and always manages to be the center of attention with her goofy antics and expressive face.

Mrs. Spencer loves affection, but she also likes doing things on her own terms.

She’ll happily soak up attention and then let you know when she’s busy with other important pug business.

She does AMAZING in her crate and settles in very well.

She’s also quite the chatterbox.

Mrs. Spencer will grumble if breakfast or dinner service is delayed and isn’t shy about barking when she spots something interesting outside or on TV.

It’s part of her charm, but it also means she’ll likely be best in a house rather than an apartment or townhouse with shared walls.

Mrs. Spencer is looking for an adopter who appreciates dogs with big personalities and is committed to continuing her training.

One of her favorite things in the world is toys.

She absolutely loves them.

If there’s a toy nearby, she’ll be chasing it, squeaking it, tossing it in the air, thrashing it around, or proudly carrying it from room to room.

Because toys are so important to her, she can be possessive of her favorites towards other dogs.

She’ll need a home that understands how to manage high-value items and is willing to continue working on sharing and trading games using positive reinforcement.

She has gotten along great with the 5 other dogs I have, but they are also all very laid back and easy going.

She would not pair well with an easily offended, reactive, or dog that would become annoyed easily.

She receives once-daily eye drops for dry eye and is very easy to medicate.

She also has some allergy related skin and ear sensitivities that we are currently managing with a limited-ingredient diet.

Mrs. Spencer is searching for a forever family that will embrace her quirks, laugh at her sass, spoil her with toys, and love her exactly as she is.

In return, you’ll get an affectionate, endlessly entertaining little companion with a huge heart and enough personality to fill an entire house.

Meet Gilda.

At five years and 17 pounds, Gilda is what I consider in the Golden Age of pugs.

She's active enough to enjoy life and have fun, but she's also mature enough that she's not turning your living room into an extreme sports arena.

Gilda is a sweet, happy girl who gets along exceptionally well with all of the fosters in my home.

That said, if given the choice between hanging out with the other dogs or spending time with her person, she's going to pick her human every time.

She believes personal space is highly overrated and quality cuddle time is a basic necessity.

In fact, Gilda would be perfectly happy being an only child and soaking up 100% of the attention.

She won't complain if every lap, treat, and belly rub is reserved exclusively for her.

She's very well-behaved, crate trained, and does wonderfully in the house.

Of course, as every foster parent knows, I will never promise that any dog will never have an accident—but Gilda certainly tries her best to be a proper lady.

And then there are those eyes.

Gilda's big brown eyes don't just look at you—they look straight into your soul.

One glance and you'll find yourself explaining why she absolutely needed that extra treat.

Gilda is ready to give someone a lifetime of love, loyalty, and companionship.

She would really love a family of her own, so don't let this beautiful girl wait too long.

Your couch—and your heart—have an empty spot with her name on it.

This loving girl is 5 years old and she's looking for her forever family!

She came into Pughearts because someone saw her being attacked by a bigger dog, so they brought her into their place of business until she could be picked up by a PH volunteer.

It's clear that she's used to being a pet, as she took to our home very quickly and she's already snuggling up with her foster family on the couch, without any encouragement.

She has pretty solid house manners and will go potty outside, and mostly gets along with her foster siblings.

Maggie will be ready for adoption in about a month as she still needs a dental, but as she settles in and reveals more of her personality, I'll make sure to post updates about this sweet girl!

Don’t let the name fool you—Batman is packed with personality, energy, and enough love to fill an entire home!

This handsome 1-year-old merle pug has a heart of gold and absolutely adores people.

After spending the beginning of his life in an outdoor kennel environment, he’s learning what it means to be a cherished house dog.

Every day he becomes more comfortable with home life, and it’s been a joy watching his confidence grow.

Batman is fully housebroken and doesn’t have accidents in the house.

He would absolutely thrive in a home with a doggy door and a large, securely fenced yard where he can run, explore, and burn off his youthful energy.

He’s an active boy who is happiest when he has space to play.

He gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and would love a canine playmate.

Because of his high prey drive and energetic nature, Batman needs a home without small animals or birds.

His perfect family will be patient as he continues adjusting to indoor life, committed to giving him plenty of exercise, and ready to shower him with the love he’s always deserved.

In return, you’ll get an incredibly loyal companion whose sweet nature and affectionate heart make him impossible not to love.

If you’re looking for a fun, active best friend with a heart of gold, Batman is ready to make your house his forever home.

Once upon a time, there was a sweet little pug named Cinderella, whose life began in the shadows of neglect.

She knew heartache and hardship, but as with every great fairy tale, her story is destined for a happy ending.

At just one year old, Cinderella has endured more than her fair share of trials, but now, with the love and care of her foster family, she’s on the path to healing, joy, and a future full of hope.

Cinderella may have started her journey in a dark and lonely place, but like any true heroine, she has a heart full of magic.

With patience and kindness, she’s beginning to discover the wonders of a gentle touch, the warmth of a soft bed, and the beauty of a world where love is unconditional.

Though she’s still learning to trust, her heart is open, and every day she grows a little braver, a little more confident.

This sweet girl is seeking a family who can be her fairy godparents—guiding her with love, compassion, and the patience she needs to bloom into the loving companion she was always meant to be.

With a calm and understanding home, Cinderella will flourish, turning into the loyal, joyful pup you’ve always dreamed of.

Cinderella is ready to leave her past behind and step into a future where she’s cherished, loved, and adored.

Could you be the one to offer her the happily ever after she so deserves?

Hi… I’m Lita I’m about 5 years old, a petite 14 lbs., and I’m a very good girl (I feel like that’s important to say upfront).

The official details: Name: Lita Age: ~5 years Gender: Female Medical: I’m spayed, heartworm negative, and I recently had a little surgery to help me breathe better (big upgrade, highly recommend).

I’m also being treated for a skin condition called demodex, which is already getting better and my hair will keep improving as I heal.

My personality (the important part): I’m what they call a “velcro pug.” That means wherever you go… I go.

Kitchen?

I’m there.

Living room?

Already waiting.

Bathroom?

I’ll supervise.

I’m very sweet, calm, and affectionate.

I don’t really care about toys (although I did try one recently… briefly… we’ll see).

What I really love is being close to my person.

I get along with everyone: ~ Dogs?

Yes ~ Cats?

Don’t bother me ~ Humans?

My favorite My perfect day: Wake up, check on my human, follow them around, relax on something soft, eat my meals, supervise the house, and end the day curled up right next to you.

It’s a simple life.

I’m a simple girl.

Things I’m really good at: Loving my person Being calm and easy in the house Following you everywhere (expert level) Getting along with other pets Having excellent manners Things I’m still working on: Learning the dog door (I’m getting it!)

Deciding if toys are worth my time Letting my skin fully heal so I can show off my glow-up The good stuff (Pros): ~ No potty accidents in the house ~ Very calm and low-key ~ Super affectionate ~ Great with other dogs and cats ~ Small and easy to manage ~Already have my manners The honest stuff (Considerations): I’m not a high-energy, playful dog I prefer people over toys or independent play I will want to be near you… a lot Potty training: I’ve had zero accidents and I’m doing great.

I’m also learning to use the dog door like a smart girl.

My dream home: Someone who wants a constant companion.

Someone who doesn’t mind a little shadow.

Someone who wants a calm, loving dog who just wants to be close.

If you’ve been looking for a sweet, loyal, no-drama kind of girl… I’ve been looking for you too.

I do have a “woo woo” voice when I get excited and when I know food is coming.

I'm ready to meet some families who would like some perfection in their lives.

I’ll be here waiting to choose who can handle all this goodness.

She is amazing and smart and all the things.

Please consider this girl, who at 4 - is the perfect age!!

Looking at Cooper, the words of the 1980’s song by Taco comes to mind: Dressed up like a million-dollar trouper Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper Our Cooper is dashing like Gary Cooper!

He is beautiful with his fancy coat and bright blue eyes.

He is a little shy at first and took some time to warm up but when he does, he is a sweetheart.

He will cuddle up next to you or stand up on you and just wait for you to pet him.

He might also flip on his back for you to rub his belly.

He is 1 ½ years old and is bigger than typical pug size but think of it this way – lotsa love comes in a bigger package.

If you are patient with him and give him a little time to get to know you, you will have a faithful affectionate boy who is great with kids (he loves our 10 year old daughter) and he is house trained (he will use a doggy door).

Patrick’s Story Patrick is the kind of dog who makes you pause, smile, and wonder how such a gentle soul ended up needing a second chance.

At 5 years old, he’s reached that perfect stage of life.

He is past the puppy chaos but still full of curiosity, affection, and quiet joy.

The first thing everyone notices is his striking white fur.

It’s unbelievably soft, like velvet you can’t help but run your fingers through.

Patrick soaks up every bit of attention with gratitude, leaning in with that calm, contented energy that makes you feel like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

He’s easy to live with.

Patrick is fully potty trained, and he doesn’t mark, which makes him a dream in the home.

His personality is laid back and relaxed — the kind of dog who’s happy to hang out, nap nearby, or follow you from room to room just to be part of your day.

And then there’s his most charming quirk: Patrick sometimes falls asleep sitting up.

Yes, really.

One moment he’s upright and alert, the next he’s dozing like a little statue who forgot to lie down.

It’s impossible not to laugh, and it’s one of the many things that makes him unforgettable.

On walks, Patrick is a star.

He moves beautifully on a leash, matching your pace and checking in with those soft, expressive eyes.

Whether it’s a stroll around the block or a quiet afternoon on the couch, he’s simply happy to be with you.

Patrick does have a couple of routine care needs that his future family should be ready to support.

Like many pugs, he’s prone to dry eyes, so he’ll need simple daily eye drops for the rest of his life to keep him comfortable and healthy.

He also has those adorable extra nose wrinkles that everyone loves, and they’ll need a quick daily wipe to keep them clean and prevent irritation.

He’s wonderfully patient for both tasks, and they’ve become just another sweet part of his everyday routine.

Patrick is ready for a home where he can be loved, cherished, and appreciated for the gentle, affectionate companion he is.

Whoever adopts him won’t just be getting a dog — they’ll be gaining a loyal friend with a heart as soft as his fur.

Meet foster Connor.

If Connor, AKA Taz, could be summed up in 3 words, it would be energetic, devoted, and adorable.

He is 3 years old and is on the bigger side (he is taller than your average pug since he has long legs) but it gives him an advantage – it works with his energy so if you like an evening stroll around the block, he is perfect for it!

He also loves being next to you and will follow you room to room and curl up to you when you sit down - he just wants to be near you.

He is kid friendly.

We are currently working on house training and trying to break his habit of counter surfing (with his long legs, he can reach the countertop and has grabbed a few items off of it).

I think the counter surfing is due to him coming from the streets and starving (he is very thin).

With a little time, love, and a filled food bowl twice a day, he will break that habit.

Jenny comes from Rio Grande Valley and her medical report made me cry when I was overseas so we committed to taking her first thing.

Jenny was so bad, the x-ray and lab work stunned even the vet.

She had a fractured right femur and pelvis that had never been treated and healed in a way that her bones are now badly misaligned, causing her to stumble and fall.

She had a huge bladder stone, herniated intestines, a very large mammary mass growing on her underside, and multiple other masses on her legs.

She was very itchy from a bad flea infestation, and is suffering from malnutrition.

The x-ray revealed she had been eating rocks to fill her stomach because she was so hungry, and the rocks are slow to pass through her intestines due to bowel loops in the inguinal hernia.

In addition to all of that, poor Jenny is blind on one side from underdeveloped eye and has nuclear sclerosis in the other.

Jenny is estimated to be about 10 years old.

It is very difficult to imagine the suffering that she has been enduring for a long time but we are doing our best to fix all we can.

She has gotten her hernia repaired and was spayed, but couldn’t stay under any longer so the next round of surgeries are still to come.

Please send some love her way as it appears in 10 years, she never got any.

He just waits patiently for his socks so his paws don’t scrape (mild knuckling) when he’s walking on the sidewalk and he needs you to help him watch his weight and limit too much jumping down.

He just needs someone to love him for his goofy, personality and big heart!

Could you be that person?

He sure hopes so because this boy is ready to fall in love!!

Respectfully!

I’m Kora I’m about 2 years old, around 17 lbs., and I am officially ready to find my forever home!

I’m spayed, heartworm negative, microchipped, and I also had my nares and palate done to help me breathe better.

I’m healing well and still very much my happy, playful self.

My foster mom says I have a lot of personality.

The fun kind.

The playful kind.

The “good morning, I’m so excited to see you!” kind.

Every morning when I get out of my crate, I run upstairs to greet my foster mom because starting the day with love is very important.

A few things you should know about me: ~ I use the dog door with no issues ~ I have had no accidents in the house ~ I go into my crate when it’s bedtime ~ I love toys, treats, and playing ~ I learned to sit on command ~ I do little tippy taps when I’m excited for dinner ~ I love giving kisses ~ I am very sweet, social, and people-focused I love playing with the other pugs and can sound a little dramatic when I play, but I’m just noisy and excited.

I’m young, happy, and full of life.

I’m not a couch potato.

I want to play, explore, be part of the action, and then be right next to my people when playtime is over.

I’m the kind of pug who wants to make you laugh, cover you in kisses, and remind you every day that life is better with a little fun in it.

If you’ve been looking for a sweet, playful, affectionate pug with a big personality and an even bigger heart… I might be your girl.

Apply to meet me through PugHearts.

I’m ready when you are.

Sugar here.

Popped in to say Hi.

I have been here about a month give or take.

I’m about 3 years old.

I do have heartworms and will need treatment before I’m ready for adoption I was found in a shopping center parking lot.

I had just finished nursing my babies.

A kind person picked me up and took me to a shelter to keep me safe.

You know a parking lot by major freeway and streets are not the best place to be running around.

Then PugHearts picked me up.

Since I have been here I have gotten my girlish figure back, although you know after having babies it will never be the same.

I’m a small girl around 14 pounds.

I get along with the others here, but would love to have someone to play with.

I do like to sit with you but I’m not as good at that as I am playing.

But I’m learning.

So keep me in mind.

I won’t be ready for about 3 to 4 months but I would love to have a forever home

At 11 lbs he is on the small side and he tends to run like a rabbit.

He is very lots and is always smiling.

He would do great with another animals in the house.

A very old dog companion may get annoyed with him though.

Adam needs daily eye drops for dryness.

Even though he’s playful he is chill staying at home and waiting for you to be back.

Great in the car as well.

Very limited barks.

Loves food and is know for helping the slow waters with their food.

Adam has a swag for life and deserves a family that will enjoy his playful side.

Please welcome this new sweet boy to PugHearts of Houston Pug Rescue.

He is the bouncy, smiley boy he should be but it wasn’t always this way.

This poor baby was found wandering in San Antonio and was very thin and desperate for someone to care.

Thankfully this 3 yr old boy is healthy and heart worm negative and is recovering from his life on the streets.

Currently: Doing well with house manners but still in scavenging mode due to fear of not having food again Improving potty manners everyday (getting so close) Excited adventure pal who loves a walk and is great with other walkers and dogs Great with kids and other dogs (so far) Can follow a few commands like “sit” and “wait” Full of pug energy and loves toys The cutest little pug tilt and smile Needs: ~Gain around 3-4 lbs to fill out that physique (he’s right at 14 lbs and is underweight for his size) ~Boosters are due in a couple weeks ~Fill out his fur (it’s a little patchy but almost healed) ~Someone to understand his background, show a little patience and direction and love him as unconditionally as he will love them Could this be you?

If you think he’s the right pup for you then be sure to get your application in ASAP!

Meet Eve.

At just 18 months old and 11 pounds, Eve is a tiny little package of pug perfection.

This sweet girl came to us as an owner surrender from the RGV and has already checked off her important medical to-do list: she’s heartworm negative, spayed, and had a palate resection.

The good news?

Her nares were just fine and didn’t need any treatment.

Eve is sporting the most adorable little underbite, and while she could stand to gain a pound or two, being a pug means she’s already highly motivated to tackle that challenge.

We have complete confidence in her commitment to snacks.

She’s only been in her foster home a short time, but she’s already made her priorities crystal clear: ~Playing with other dogs?

Yes, please.

~ Soft toys?

Absolutely.

~ Chew bones?

Don’t mind if she does.

~Giving kisses?

She’s basically a professional.

Eve also believes that humans should remain within sight whenever possible.

If you disappear into another room, she may file a formal complaint in the form of barking.

She loves her people and prefers to keep tabs on them.

What really stands out about Eve is her wonderful balance of playful and relaxed.

She’s happy to romp around with friends, but she’s also perfectly content soaking up attention from her favorite humans.

This young girl has many years of love, laughter, cuddles, and kisses ahead of her.

She should be ready to start interviewing potential families at the dog show this year, and we have a feeling she won’t be available for long.

If you’ve been looking for a tiny pug with a huge heart and an irresistible underbite, Eve may just be your girl.

Meet Travis... aka Blockhead.

Now before you think that's mean, just take one look at that adorable noggin and tell us we're wrong.

When Travis first arrived, we thought we had a certified zoomie expert on our hands.

Turns out, this handsome boy is much more of a laid-back couch supervisor than a speed demon.

His favorite activities include lounging, soaking up attention, and making sure you never have to sit on the couch alone.

He's doing fantastic with his house manners, learned the doggy door like a pro, gets along well with other dogs, and is settling into foster life beautifully.

Most importantly, Travis has discovered that being loved is pretty great... and he's leaning all the way into it.

Meet Foster Sally!

Sally came to us from a local shelter, and at first glance she appears to be in pretty good condition.

Unfortunately, her medical tests told a different story.

Sally is heartworm positive, which often points to a history of inadequate preventive care and spending much of her life outdoors.

While we may never know exactly what her past looked like, we do know that no one came to claim her, and now she's getting the care and attention she deserves in foster care.

Sally is 5 years old and has a fresh start ahead of her.

She'll be receiving the treatment she needs, and in the meantime she's enjoying the safety, comfort, and love that every dog deserves.

We're looking forward to watching her leave her past behind and begin the next chapter of her life.

Keep an eye out for updates on this sweet girl as she continues her journey toward a healthier, happier future.

You can apply now to stake your claim!

His potty manners are pretty good so far.

He does well in a crate but loves to sleep in a big bed with his people.

Pure angel is what new intake Cecilia is.

Here her first week with a total stranger, who on Day 1 munged her into a too tight harness, gave her a lift, a much needed scrubbing, a light snack, lots of encouraging words, and a place to hold and heal until her forever finds her... She is the perfect, calm age of 5, spayed, and we are evaluating the eyes her crappy former life dealt her.

At least one will be surgically removed; she is not painful.

Up and Coming Winkies of America, unite!

Whatever her healthcare future holds, this dark apricot girly is confidently cute, with the spirit of a thousand eyeballs.

No matter how it turns out, she will love just as long, and just the same.

She crates beautifully for sleeps, wags constantly for totes outside, is doing great with potty manners, and in true pug form, eats all the things.

The evolution of her love for tangerine segments (pug peely treats in this house) has been fun to witness.

Keep Cecilia in your thoughts and on your radar.

She is expected to be home ready sometime in August.

She is why.

Vivi as we like to call her is full of spunk.

She will let you know whenever something is not up to her standard by soft woo woos or little sharp barks.

She moves around very well and is exceptionally good about house manners.

Vivi doesn’t mind other dogs in the slightest but doesn’t seek them out.

The excitement when she is loved on is next level and she will quickly roll over to offer you her belly like a puppy would.

I sincerely hope that Vivi can find a wonderful home despite her advanced age because she is an absolute joy to have around.

Hi y’all, Jasmine here.

I came to PugHearts after being found roaming in a wooded area.

I must have been roaming for a while, as you can see my ribs and hip bones.

I was covered in fleas and sores from flea bites.

I very nice lady had tried a couple of days to get me to come to her, but I was afraid.

She brought out the hotdog and my hunger made me forget fear so much.

I was picked up that same night and given flea meds and a bath.

And just like that, the fleas were gone.

I’m a small girl weight about 14 lbs, however I should weigh about 16 or so pounds.

FOMO is giving me extra food to help with that.

I got some meds and my sores are gone and I’m looking better.

A really good thing is I don’t have heartworms.

I’m about 3 years old.

I love to play with and carry around small toys.

I really like being with my peeps.

FOMO says I’m kinda a Velcro pug.

I’m not sure what that means, but I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

I get along with the other 9 pugs here, and love to play.

I need to have my spay, and breathing surgery’s and then I’m ready to go.

So get your applications in.

Please welcome Gizmo to PugHearts.

In 6 days it will be a month since his owner passed away.

They have been together since Gizmo was 8 weeks.

He is now 12 years old and his life was turned upside down.

For a long time he hid in the house, not eating, decompressing and processing the loss he just suffered.

But being the resilient dog he is, he realized he was safe and melted into his new place.

Gizmo was an only dog his whole life so what a delightful surprise it was to find him playing with some of the others in my home!

He adores children and picked Vivienne as his love interest.

We were very full on fosters but my heart couldn’t take the thought of him boarding after all he had gone through so here he is, complete opposite of Alex - huge, quiet, and sweet.

Impeccable house manners and sleeping through the night.

He is starting to come to us for cuddles and it is evident this dog was well cared for because he would easily pass for being 4 years younger.

His coat is beautiful, he is barely gray, he moves around wonderfully, can jump on the couch and play.

Gizmo will be having a dental cleaning later this month and will be ready to join his forever forever.

I hope he doesn’t have to wait long

I cannot keep up, I cannot stop laughing and I cannot wait to show you these events because I managed to document most of them.

Meet Dusty Some stories begin with heartbreak, and we’re hoping Dusty’s ends with the forever family he deserves.

Dusty is approximately 4 years old and currently weighs just 11 pounds, though we expect him to fill out to around 14 pounds before long.

Judging by his enthusiasm for mealtime, gaining those pounds shouldn’t be much of a challenge!

When Dusty arrived, he had suffered a devastating jaw injury.

The upper portion of his broken jaw could not be saved and was surgically removed, while his lower jaw was fractured in two places and has been carefully wired back together.

For the next several months, he’ll remain on medical hold while everything heals.

He’s eating like a champ on a very soft, runny diet and doesn’t seem to mind it one bit.

His biggest job right now is simply resisting the urge to chew on anything while his jaw recovers.

Despite everything he’s been through, Dusty’s spirit shines brightly.

The moment he was released from the clinic, he was happily running around, soaking up his newfound freedom with pure joy.

He’s had a much-needed bath, but he is still battling demodex mange, which gives him a rather unpleasant odor.

Thankfully, with treatment and time, that will soon be just another memory.

And here’s the wonderful surprise—Dusty is heartworm negative and already neutered!

Once his jaw has completely healed, he’ll be ready to begin the next chapter of his life with a family of his own.

For now, Dusty asks for your patience, your good thoughts, and maybe a little cheering from the sidelines.

His road to recovery will take time, but if his happy heart and resilient spirit are any indication, this little guy has a very bright future ahead of him.
