No special needs

HOSPICE Lila is a 9 yr old female that comes to PugHearts after being found wandering all alone.

She appears to have some problems with her back legs and is being monitored by the vet.

Lila is, happily, heartworm negative.

From Lila's foster: Meet Lila - our gorgeous Lila!!

She is a very happy, healthy 9 yr old that loves to play and cuddle and run - everywhere she goes!!

Lila is a special needs pug that has some neurological issues with her back legs.

We are not sure if this is due to an injury or birth - be please do not let this deter you from adopting her!!

She does not let this slow her down one bit!!

The biggest issue is elimination, as she is not always aware of pooping.

Lila does squat to urinate, but then hops about 3ft while going.

If she is leashed and you hold her, she will finish then move on.

She will also stand up when asked!

This sweet girl is a treasure and we are hoping that someone will give her a chance at a family - she deserves her own family and loves with her whole heart!

Tessa (6132)
paw icon

Female

1 years old

paw icon

With special needs

MEDICAL HOLD Tessa came to PugHearts from San Antonio back in November as a 7 week old puppy with a prolapsed rectum.

A prolapse will typically occur in puppies that haven’t been properly dewormed, causing severe diarrhea.

A purse string was put in by the vet in San Antonio prior to her transport to Houston.

What is a purse string?

Think of it as a drawstring in her rectum to hold her insides in, similar to holding the contents of a bag in place.

This is so important because the longer that the bowls are out, the more necrotic the tissue becomes.

The purse string stayed in for 2 weeks and less than 48 hours after it was out, Tessa prolapsed again.

She was rushed back to our vet to have an additional purse string.

This is when we assumed the problem was bigger than we thought and it was discovered that Tessa has no muscle tone in her rectum.

This purse string stayed in for 3 weeks, and this time she prolapsed less than 24 hours from removal.

I became quite versed in pushing her colon back inside her body every time she prolapsed, until her emergency surgery was performed the following day.

Dr. Hendrix performed a Coloplexy on Tessa, essentially pulling and tacking the colon to the abdominal wall and leaving no room for an additional prolapse to occur.

Since this surgery, we have been finding out all the additional problems Tessa has, and assume she born with this defect.

She has a total collapse of the 7th vertebrae leading into her pelvis causing nerve damage to the colon, which also gives her a funny gait and a spastic neurogenic colon.

She has the urge to poop all the time, and will posture constantly with some, little or nothing coming out.

It ends up on her, the other dogs, me and the wall on occasion.

She has to have her anal glands manually expressed on a weekly basis because her body can’t do it.

She will never be able to jump on and off the furniture or use stairs.

There’s mornings that I want to scream and cry while I’m scrubbing poop, but then I see her and everything is worth it.

We’ve treated her with prednisone and metronidazole to no avail, and we currently have her on Tylan which has helped the consistency be more formed.

She is on a strict diet of GI high energy wet food and Biome If Tessa hadn’t found her way to PugHearts, she would not be here.

There is no information on treating this condition because most dogs would have died or been euthanized.

PugHearts is fighting for Tessa and we are doing everything that we can to help her.

It’s not cheap, Her dog food is almost $80 a bag, but this little baby deserves the best.

SLPH accepts manufacturers coupons for the Hill’s Science Diet food, if you’d like to donate those at the clinic.

I had $15 worth today!

Today Tessa had her last booster.

At this point, most puppies would be ready for adoption.

Tessa is not.

We’ve concluded that Tessa might not ever be adoptable, but we also aren’t calling her hospice.

It’s unknown what Tessa might have to tackle next and with Pughearts and me as her foster, we will be ready to take on anything, but it’s not a burden we want future adopters to have to face.

Tessa is my baby.

She is spoiled rotten just like she’s suppose to be.

She spends the majority of her day being held or in my lap, and sleeps every night curled around my neck.

Please consider donating to Tessa’s care.

She deserves the world and PugHearts is going to give it to her

Meet Tigger Tigger is a 6-year-old neutered male who is heartworm negative.

He is a Pug and Bulldog mix, currently weighing 47 pounds and working toward a healthy goal weight of 35 pounds.

Tigger has a friendly and affectionate personality and enjoys being close to his people.

He does well with other dogs but has shown some toy aggression, so he should be monitored during playtime.

He also tends to try to eat anything he can find, so supervision and a tidy environment are important for his safety.

Tigger is crate trained and knows several commands, including sit, stay, drop it, and leave it.

He is intelligent and responsive to training, especially when treats are involved, though he can be a bit stubborn at times.

Because of his size, energy level, and somewhat rough play style, Tigger would do best in a home without small children.

He will thrive with an adopter who can provide structure, continued training, and regular exercise to support his ongoing weight loss and help him maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Tigger is a loving and loyal companion who will make a wonderful addition to the right home.

HOSPICE Murray is a winky as he is missing his left eye.

He has IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease).

Murray also has a healed vertebral fracture, Spondylosis and hip dysplasia.

That being said, Murray has no idea that he should experience limitations with his activity.

He can and does do anything he wants.

He is on Rimadyl for pain and will remain on it throughout his life.

He is a sweet, loving cuddle bug.

Although Murray has his physical challenges they don’t stop him from doing anything he wants to.

He has been neutered and had his nares and soft palate done and is good to go.

He sleeps either on the couch or in a crate in the bedroom.

He uses doggie stairs well.

He loves treats and to play with toys.

He can be food aggressive so I either crate him or put him in another room to eat.

He is 90% potty trained.

He is sweet and likes to be loved on.

He’s sweet, playful, and energetic – Always ready for a game of tug-o-war or a snuggle.

He’s not a big fan of the crate and we’re working on getting him used to it (though he’s only in there for short periods of time when no one is home).

HOSPICE Since Callie joined us in April 2022, she has lost an impressive 9 pounds, been diagnosed with Cushing's, is receiving daily meds that have leveled out or eliminated the majority of her symptoms.

Those symptoms consisted of nearly constant panting, excessive hunger and thirst, poor hair coat, restlessness, skin irritations, weight gain, and pot bellied appearance.

She will needs these meds for life.

She continues to be the bossiest, most active pug here (saying a lot, considering the pair of puppy foster girls), with daily toy box raids.

Her now plush coat will keep her pretty and warm as we delve into a long deserved Texas winter.

She's the most interactive, funny foster to ever dawn my doorstep.

We welcome her antics as long as she wants to entertain us.

HOSPICE Hi y'all, Chiquita here.

I'm around 12 years old.

I'm a tiny, fat girl.

I'm very petite, as they call me.

I weigh about 10 pounds, but I am a little over weight for my size.

I came to PugHearts after being left at a shelter with injuries to both my eyes.

I had to have 1 eye removed and the other I don't see much out of.

I also had to have emergency surgery because I had a prolapsed vagina.

I'm feeling much better now.

We are still trying to get somethings taken care of, but FoMo and FoPa both say I'm showing my sweet little demanding personality just because I really love to be held and sit with people.

I don't think that it demanding.

I'm currently on medical hold, while we get some other medical issues worked out, so it will be a while before I'm ready for adoption.

Welcome!

PugHearts Dean aka Mr. Debonair Dean.

I initially picked him up from a wonderful couple that saved him.

Their pug was missing and decided to save him because the finder had him in the trunk of a car.

He was in bad shape and called PugHearts.

Good news is that they found their pug.

They loved him from the moment they saw him and was grateful to save this baby.

I decided I couldn't let him stay in the clinic and became his foster.

Dean is 4 years old and was he so happy he didn't even know where to go first.

Dean will have a long journey, we really don't know how he lived before coming to PugHearts.

Our vet is trying to pinpoint where the head tilt and imbalance are coming from.

They will try to rule out chronic inner ear infection or a brainstem issues.

He was fleas infested but we took care of that, he also has bald patches throughout his body and could use about 1 lb.

or 2.

He sleeps well in the crate and we're working on a potty routine.

He wants to thank everyone for their donations and send hugs and kisses to all.

Stay tuned for his care journey.

Sherry (7434)

Please Welcome Sherry to PugHearts!

Sherry is an 8 year old Pug Mix that came to PugHearts from a local shelter.

She was found as a stray with a broken leg and the shelter doctor did surgery to fix it.

She has healed fairly well and is only on a daily joint supplement to help with possible arthritis later on.

We’re not sure what Sherry is mixed with, but her wispy, wire coat make us believe there’s Terrier of some sort.

She has the most beautiful apricot coloring, perfectly lazy pug curly tail and a smile that lights up a room.

Sherry does well with other dogs, but would be perfect as the only child as well.

There’s not a mean or aggressive bone in her body and sometimes even the crazy little puppies can boss her around.

Sherry loves being outside laying in the sun, and will spend her mornings catching all the rays she can get.

Sherry is crate trained, and will go in on command of if she needs to get away from the excitement for a while.

She is house trained, and will go to the door waiting to be let out to do her business.

Sherry loves treats and is working hard on not taking off your finger in the process of getting one!

Nylabones and chew toys make her the happiest!

Sherry was spayed early on, and it appears she was really loved at one time, which makes her ending up as an injured stray in the shelter even sadder.

She is fully up to date on vaccines and is a healthy and happy little girl.

I know someone is out there wanting to give Sherry a home, and she deserves to be loved and spoiled, with plenty of couch cuddles and kisses!

Cash (7568)
paw icon

Male

paw icon

11 years old

paw icon

No special needs

HOSPICE This handsome fellow comes to PugHearts as an owner surrender.

We're unsure of the situation or reasoning for him being surrendered, and nothing hurts my heart more than an elderly dog who's been in a home for it's entire life and is suddenly surrendered.

He was understandably confused at first, but he has now settled in beautifully at his foster home.

Given that he's such a regal gentleman, his foster parents actually call him Sir Cash at home!

When he first came to PugHearts he was overweight at about 28 pounds.

It visibly affected his mobility and breathing at times.

In the short 2 months he's been here he has lost nearly 3 pounds and feels amazing.

He has so much more energy, has learned to go up AND down the wooden stairs (a lot scary than carpeted stairs).

Then when you consider he has some vision impairment, it's even more impressive how much he's learned and the confidence he's gained.

Just the other night he hopped up onto the big bed without assistance for the first time!

The reason for his vision impairment is most likely due to dry eye (very common issue for pugs) that was left untreated.

He is now on daily eye drops that keep him comfortable and to help prevent any further damage.

You wouldn't know the he's 11, he's very mobile, curious and engaged with whatever's going on in the house.

But he still has that calmness that comes with age, and of course he can sleep like a champ.

He does great with the other pugs, basically just ignores them (even the annoying 1 year old foster).

He also totally ignores the adult cats and kittens fosters in his home.

Even when the kittens bat at his face, he either ignores or moves away like a good boy.

He's also basically deaf, but it's a huge plus if your house is loud for any reason, because he does not care.

Also a hug bonus during construction, fireworks and thunderstorms!

His foster family as learned how to communicate with him and he's adapted very well, no doubt he would adapt to a new home fairly easily.

He enjoys soft toys occasionally, anything flavored that he can chew on, but his absolute favorite are soft dog beds.

He will play with, suck on, stretch out and curl up with any soft bed he can find.

I swear I've caught him doing yoga (downward dog position) with these beds!

Health wise besides the dry eye he's great.

Heartworm negative, fully vaccinated.

He had some masses removed when he first came to the rescue, they were fully removed and have healed well.

He takes Benadryl twice a day just as a precaution, which he'll take with literally anything you offer (peanut butter, cheese, etc).

Overall just a very chill, snuggly boy.

He does great out at breweries, meeting new dogs, having a lot of new humans over.

Nothing really phases him, he just wants that people love.

*Bonus* He's a rockstar for any tongue-out photos!

I truly believe there's a family out there who will love and appreciate him, and we'll keep him safe until he finds them

She is energetic, playful, loves being with people, does great in the kennel and in the human bed.

She is learning to go into her kennel to eat, doing great with her housebreaking (no accidents!

), and she is learning how to seek attention in a calm manner.

This girl is smart and picks up routines and commands quickly.

She does want to be the boss, so no other alpha dogs in the house please.

Please welcome Caleb to PugHearts.

Foster Caleb is approximately 3. years old and came to PugHearts as an owner surrender through no fault of his own.

He is playful and a free spirit who enjoys playing with the other dogs in his foster home.

He also enjoys his down time too and loves to cuddle with his humans.

He has a sweet personality and can be quite fun and entertaining.

Caleb is crate trained and sleeps quietly all night long.

He gets along with all dogs; he has not been exposed to cats yet so we cannot determine if he’s ok around them.

Caleb would be fine around older children in the home, but we do advise monitoring around toddlers at first given his young age.

Caleb might be fine as an only dog but has not been assessed in an “only dog” environment since being in his foster home.

I'm going to reintroduce #phGrant back to y'all!

He is about 6yo, calm kind of chill kind of let's watch a movie and eat popcorn type of guy.

He was with us before for a few weeks and did great.

He unfortunately has been returned to PugHearts and he's looking for his really real forever home.

What's he looking for?

He's looking for a comfy donut bed, some chews and stuffies, some kind and mature love, the kind that isn't loud or rough or too spicy.

He likes to play and patrol the fence like most pugs.

He also prefers ladies I'm told but at my house he actually preferred foster dad.

My kiddo is 9yo and she's petting him in one of the pics.

I am happy to have him back and help him find his really real forever home this time.

And for info, he's giving me vibes of weekend Home Depot shopping trips along with some fall brewery visits on a nice weather.

He was a sweetheart at today's event.

He may feel overprotective at time so we will work on that but know that whoever adopts him will have to provide a secure environment that understands his body language so Grant doesn't feel like he needs to protect you.

More like he wants to feel he's protected by you, the Alpha.

If that's you, let's have a meet and greet and see where things take us.

I'm a small girl around 16 lbs.

I look chunky, because I am, hehehe.

Yes I need to lose a pound or 2, that would also help with my breathing.

You see I do have a collapsing trachea.

I do not take meds for that.

I do take meds to help with the pH of my urine.

I am puppy pad trained, but I also go outside too.

Fawn colored and high energy.

He gets along well with other dogs, both small and large and loves children.

He walks on leash very well.

Pickles is SUPER excited about food and treats and is learning that he can count on getting meals regularly so that he doesn't have to scavenge for them in the trash cans or take others.

He currently sleeps in a kennel and has no complaints.

He really barks and is easy to quiet.

He is working on his potty manners and once he is neutered, we are confident he will be a pro since he is already using the doggie door.

He’s earned the privilege of not sleeping in a crate overnight, and sleeps on dog beds in our room with the bulldogs.

He’s still using the dog door and doing well learning the house rules.

He has bunny soft fur and is ready for his forever home!

Lydia is 3 ½ years old and a very tiny little girl.

She was found as a stray and when she arrived she was in very poor condition.

But that was 9 months ago and she is now happy and healthy.

She has been treated for heartworms and a massive load of intestinal parasites with great success.

Lydia is the opposite of alpha.

She is a very timid girl and even after all this time of being cared for and treated with love she is still timid.

But she is very loving and wants nothing more than to be held and cuddle by her person.

She does well with the other fosters and does play at times.

Lydia will be a great girl as an only pet or part of a family.

She craves the attention of her person and would so enjoy not competing with others.

She is ready to take the next step in her recovery and find her forever home.

Nelly joined our home as a foster about 6 weeks ago.

She had been found as an underweight stray in New Caney.

She has been spayed as well as having had the nares and palate surgery performed to set her out on the right tract.

Nelly came to us presenting an interesting behavior of swirling very quickly apparently trying to do harm to her tail.

Well, she doesn’t want to harm herself.

The twirling and tail chasing happen when she is suddenly startled or is overwhelmed with a situation.

AND sometimes when she is irritated at me.

After 6 weeks Nelly rarely settles into the twirl except when she is happily expecting food.

Nelly is now totally potty trained and additionally uses the dog door to go to the backyard to potty on her own.

She is VERY treat trainable.

This funny little girl is so smart that she will next next to where she did potty and wait for me to come with a treat.

I think Nelly was used to being alone.

She has nothing much to do with the 3 other dogs in my house.

I have also realized that she is not a fan of being held or cuddled.

However, wherever I am in the house, she is right there on the floor next to me.

We haven’t had any fights.

I am slowly working on getting her used to being held.

She is working on taking turns at feeding and snack times.

She can swoop in so quickly to snatch a food treat.

I feed her in a dog pen at mealtime.

I feel so positive about how far Nelly has come along in 6 weeks.

Sky’s the limit little girl.

Autumn here, I am about 7 years old and weigh 13 pounds.

I come to PugHearts as an owner surrender through no fault of mine.

I am heartworm negative.

I have a large arch in my back and Luxating patella, but I walk and get around great, I even run.

I love being with people, but I am a little shy until I get to know you.

I get along fine with the other pugs here.

FoMo says I'm just a wonderful little lady and that I am just the cutest little thing.

She just loves the tad of white on my toes.

I'm looking for my forever home.

I love my food and big, comfy, fluffy dog beds.

Sitting in my people's lap is one of my favorite things.

Will your lap be my favorite place to be?

Good morning everyone.

I'm Hugo da Boss.

I'm 1 year old, 13 pounds, and full of puppy energy.

I had my neuter, nares, and palate done last week, so I am ready for YOU!

I love playing with toys, running around the backyard, and these things called morning walks.

Over the last 4 days, my house manners have improved dramatically.

I'm extremely smart, if I do say so myself.

By the way, I'm completely blind, but it only took me a couple of hours to map out the house and the yard and I very rarely bump into anything.

Honestly, I don't understand what all the fuss is about.

Being blind hasn't slowed me down one bit.

FOMO says if you miss your opportunity to adopt me, you are missing out on one of the bestest boys EVER!

You can wait to possibly see me at Pugs On The Bayou, but if you wait, you might just miss out on the best thing that could ever happen to you cause I might just be of the market by then.

He is an owner surrender that needs a home with only maybe just one more dog or maybe two.

He is a little shy and seems to like it best when he is the only dog around the human.

He is getting better though.

He has been with me only a few days and needs time to settle in.

He has a bad eye and is HW+, so he has to go through treatment and get neutered and they will decide what to do about his eye.

He is cute and is very friendly.

Melba has only been here only about 3 hours and has already won us over, especially Bruce who is partial to Chihuahuas.

She may be a Chug but looks more like a Chihuahua.

I’m not used to a dog with a nose.

He has a mischievous side too — if he manages to slip out the door, he won’t get far before hopping into your car like he’s saying, “Road trip?” And yes, he’s a fantastic passenger.

Snuggly, smiley, and rocking an impressive underbite, Frank is always ready to make you laugh and melt your heart.

Meet Marino!

We sprung this sweet little boy out of the clinic today.

We were told that he was very fearful and head shy, likely from being treated poorly in his short 2 year life.

He was definitely shy when we first picked him up and twinged at every move of my hand.

He let me hold him and he somewhat relaxed on the ride home.

Our crew was a little overwhelming to him, and it took some coaxing with treats for him to come inside.

Thankfully he is a typical food oriented pug, so meal time made him happy and he started to relax a bit.

He’s now sitting with us on the couch, and I know it’s just a matter of time before he’s playing with others and trusting us more.

Welcome to the good life PH Marino!

(The name doesn’t fit him yet..) Isn’t a handsome guy with that pink nose?

This sweet boy with the absolutely gorgeous brown eyes and a mangled pelvis has been settling in nicely.

He is growing more accustomed to me leaving the house or even the room, meaning he is getting more comfortable.

He knows I will always be back.

Sebastian came to us with nasty skin, patches of fur missing and after rads were taken, it was discovered that poor Sebastian had an unfortunate run in with a car resulting in a pelvis broken in many places.

Lucky for Sebastian, his injuries didn’t kill him, and his body healed showing now obvious signs of injury.

He is med free, but has started a joint supplement for maintenance.

Sebastian is 2 years old and heartworm negative.

Sebastian loves toys, being outside and is working on house and crate training.

I’m so proud of him!

Sunny is about 4 years old, balanced energy level, very food driven, smart and trainable, great with all humans and gets along with other pugs.

She met a cat and she ignored the cat, but her foster doesn't have cats.

She is growing her fur again, after fleas, and gaining some weight.

She was picked up as a stray in the hard streets of Houston, so she is heartworm positive.

She will be treated and be ready for her forever home by early August.

She has mastered our routines to perfection including crate, potty outside with zero accidents inside the house since welcoming her here, and honestly she's just perfection.

For those curious, she is getting along great with my kid, my senior pugs and my younger pug.

She also spend a whole day with visitors of all ages including other dogs and did great, she followed me everywhere like a great little host and helper.

Therefore, I recommend her future family to me one with medium level of activity to keep her engaged physically and mentally.

She's very smart and food driven so I suspect she can pick up a sport or a trade in the pug therapy (or just work at being cute) very quickly.

He also will let you dress him with costumes and doggie jackets.

His appetite is unstoppable like most healthy puggies.

Very respectful with anything at home.

He likes to cuddle, especially at night but also likes to have his space for daily naps.

Loves walks and after hearing somebody outside he will let out a couple muffled mini barks.

Riley sometimes will look out to play with other dogs but is also happy to let them alone, if they don't want to be bothered.

Riley is a gentleman looking for his forever fam.

Could it be you?

Leticia 6-year-old Pug | 21 lbs.

| Drama Queen in Recovery Leticia is a 6 year old pug coming to us from the streets of Mexico in rough shape.

Currently she’s being treated for an enlarged heart that causes fits of coughing.

She’s doing much better than she was when she came in two weeks ago and don’t let her current condition fool you - this girl is full of personality.

There is no shortage of chasing around two legged and four legged members of the house around and she is very vocal about what she wants and when she wants it.

After 6 years of a life I can’t even imagine, she is truly living her best life now full of cuddles, snacks, soft beds, and lots of loving words.

Leticia is not currently adoptable as we work on treating her heart, but keep an eye out for this one she’s definitely a keeper.

Introducing the amazing 2 year old foster Anna!

This girl has had so many injuries, but has come out the other side so cheerful and loving and pain free.

Anna was found in the middle of the street by a kind soul that thought she had already passed.

When approached, Anna lifted her head to say Thank You!

Rushed to our vet, and once again SLPH was able to work miracles with her.

Her head injury has resolved itself, her broken Pelvis and jaw will heal, her left elbow has been surgically repaired and still healing.

This girl has so much spirit, some spunk and attitude - she will be easy for someone to fall in love with, just like I have!

Meet Ruth.

She is new to PugHearts.

She is blind.

She has heart worms.

She is underweight.

She comes to us as a local shelter dump, I suspect because she aged out of making puppies for profit.

She has lots of healing to do and groceries to eat.

But already she wags.

Slight smile detected.

Leash manners noted.

Hope exuded.

Greatness expected.

After just a few days here, Ruth reveals her spunk with a good game of bite my bed, then falls asleep randomly with her head in her bowl.

She is very attentive and attached to me already.

She displays some fear of other pugs, but wags like crazy every time she does not see me.

Don't discount the blind and broken among our stock.

They have just as much love and humor to share.

Ruth is aged at 8 years old.

Look for a Christmas ready date, and follow her posts meantime!

PH Gage is working on his portfolio.

He is 8 years old and was found wandering and eating trash.

He wants to be cast as a detective in a noir film.

He’s *very* good at finding all the missing tennis balls and hedgehogs.

This sweet, funny, engaged, curious boy is working on getting healthy for his forever home.

He is bouncing back spectacularly from a liver episode (we are looking for good news at his vet check on Friday).

Next up: beating those nasty heart worms.

Gage has some spinal issues, but they are not much of an impediment to him.

He happily chases balls and runs through the house to find his people.

Gage will need a home that will love him as he is, but he has a massive heart full of love to give back.

He is definitely food motivated but we are working on that.

A squat chatterbox with loads of opinions on everything.

The whole freedom ride home.

Then during that intro bath (not sure if I or the dogs get more relief from these), followed by more commentary.

What a charming 14# goblin this one is.

I can't wait to share her revelations with you while she heals from her former life.

Sassy is 8.

Sassy has been bred.

Repeatedly and RECENTLY.

Her spay is set.

No more will she be a puppy/cash cow.

Then we will contend with her heart worms.

Sassy's new improved life has just begun.

I'm sure she'll tell you (and me) all about it, and the many more to follow, in her social posts.

If you love a good lecture, keep this one on your radar.

I was contemplating how to write this post on Foster Jane.

It’s not the news I wanted to hear but when you Foster you have the best days with a Foster and then you have the Bad days to the worst… I took Jane in last week on her cough since it sounded not like the cough of a collapsed trachea but something else going on.

It sounded like fluid when she would cough.

As I read the Notes on Friday night my Heart sank and I wanted to burst out crying.

But I kept my composure as I was out in public celebrating my Mum in laws Bday.

Foster Jane’s Diagnosis is : Pulmonary Hypertension with Mainstem Bronchial Collapse.

The next words I read was QUALITY OF LIFE…..

Right now we are trying to keep the cough under control and see if the meds she is on will help calm the cough.

I am hoping and praying she will be strong enough to go through Heartworm Treatment and be able to pull through everything….

I am giving her the best of her little world that she can get as my Foster in my house.

She still is Happy, loves to eat and play.

Please keep her in your prayers as this will be a journey and every day is a special day as long as she can make it through and thrive.

I am not sure what her outcome will be in the future, but for now ..Each day is a gift and praying for better news to come.

Tomorrow is not promised so we shall live each day to the fullest.

His calm nature makes him a perfect companion for families or anyone looking for a loyal little shadow to brighten their days.

Meet Rocky — the high-octane, merle-coated, black-and-beautiful pug who looks like he was dipped in unicorn sprinkles and then wound up like a toy you forgot to turn off.

At four years old, Rocky has *one* mission in life: to be smack-dab in the middle of whatever you’re doing.

Cooking dinner?

He’s your sous-chef.

Folding laundry?

He’s quality control.

Kids playing?

He’s the self-appointed referee.

Another dog in the house?

Perfect — Rocky *lives* for tag, chase, zoomies, and any form of chaos that involves movement and applause.

He’s silly, energetic, playful, and has the kind of personality that makes you wonder if he secretly drinks espresso when you’re not looking.

And that gorgeous merle coat?

You’re not going to find another pug that looks like him — he’s basically a limited-edition collectible with a built-in wiggle.

Now, Rocky does have heartworms, which means he’ll need to go through heartworm treatment — but he’s already on track, and once he’s done, he’ll be ready to fully unleash his goofball energy on his forever family.

In the meantime, he’s soaking up love, showing off that one-of-a-kind coat, and auditioning humans who appreciate a comedic sidekick with boundless spirit.

If you’re looking for a fun, unique, action-loving pug who will keep you laughing (and keep your other pets or kids busy), Rocky is *your guy*.

What she lacks in size, she makes up for in love.

Simone is already showing her affectionate nature—she wants to be near her people at all times and follows us everywhere.

She’s learning quickly from the pack and is doing wonderfully with potty time, proving she’s a smart little lady eager to fit right in.

Simone’s journey isn’t without challenges.

She is Heartworm Positive, which means she’ll need several months of treatment before she’s ready for adoption.

But with patience, care, and lots of love, we know she’ll come through stronger than ever.

She should be ready by March of 2026!

Hi Everyone, I'm Max!

I was a stray found all alone, covered in mud and scared, but I was rescued by PugHearts!

But that's not all I am!

I'm excited to meet you!

My favorite thing to do is to roll around in the grass even when I'm on my leash and harness!

But I shake it off when I am done, so as not to bring in any trimmings.

I also love playing with toys with my Foster Dad's pug.

I am friendly and enjoy showing my affection by licking everyone.

I may duck away when you pet me on the head (I'm Just a little scared), but I want your approval and pets anyway.

I love belly rubs.

I love my kibble and will eat happily, but I will tell you my favorite food is sweet potatoes especially fresh made!

I had my nares surgery and neuter, so all I need is my eye drops at bedtime so I can see the people I love.

I am heartworm positive right now, but my fosters are taking great care of me until I get my heartworm treatment done and I am "good to go".

I'm excited to meet you!

Welcome foster Jameson to PugHearts!

Jameson (who we are already calling Jamie) was abandoned in a dog park around Halloween and has finally been sprung from our vet after getting treated for worms and a respiratory infection and waiting for a foster home to open up.

We believe he is around 5 years old.

So far we know he loves to play with toys, gets along great with his new dog foster brothers (the pugs as well as our 40lb doodle) and loves his 10yo human foster brother.

He was a little fearful of my husband at first, but warmed up within minutes once he offered him a treat.

He is great at the fetching part of fetch, not so much the returning.

Sadly Jameson is heartworm positive as well as being underweight with a pretty beat up coat at this point.

He will neutered in a few weeks and will be ready for adoption in February/March timeframe once he completes heartworm treatment and crate rest.

In the meantime we will get him a bit fattened up and healthier all around and help him settle in and realize he is safe and starting to live the good life!

Meet Millie, our newest foster pug!

She’s been with us for just a week, and here’s what we’ve learned so far: Millie is about 3 years old She is crate trained and mostly house trained (just a couple of accidents!)

She is a little spunky, a little silly, and a LOT playful — this girl loves her toys A whole bunch of cute and even more sweet.

She prefers humans to dogs, but gets along just fine with dog friends A tiny girl at 11 lbs., but she’s working on filling out Millie will be ready mid-January after her spay, nares, and dental Millie is available for meet & greets now and would love to have a forever home waiting for her when she’s ready.

If you think this sweet, spirited girl might be your match, let us know — Millie can’t wait to meet you!

Colton is a handsome one year old sweetheart.

He comes to PugHearts after being found running loose in a Houston neighborhood.

After efforts were made to find his family, he made his way to PugHearts.

This little guy gets along well with other dogs.

He is heart-worm negative and healthy.

Colton freely gives soft kisses when you pick him up.

He enjoys zoomies and playing chase in the yard with other dogs.

Better get your application in soon as I can’t imagine he will be around for long.

Egan came to PugHearts from a local shelter after being found running with a Husky friend.

He is an amazing guy and very dog friendly.

Egan is 1 year old, weighs 17 pounds and sadly, but not surprising, he is HW+.

He is an extremely sweet and loving boy to say nothing about how handsome he is.

His eyes just melt my heart.

But what really gets me is he craves to be held and he will just melt into my body when I hold him and he will stay like that until I have to move.

He also loves to take afternoon naps with everyone and curls up in the crook of my knees.

He is a very well adjust boy and gets along with all the fosters.

You can tell he was around big dogs because he loved my daughter's Great Dane when they visited.

While Egan is a very young pug he's not that over the top crazy puppy.

He does have his playing moments but he doesn't run zoomies around the house like most young ones do.

He is learning rules, he jumps on me when he gets excited and he's learning 'down' and he's learning that outside is where he needs to potty.

He hasn't been neutered long so he should begin to get better everyday in that department.

I think Egan will be perfect for any home who just wants to love him and make sure he is safe and cared for.

I'm old and he seems to be perfectly satisfied with my inactive life style but he has enough energy that he will be a great fit for a family and children.

He is just a well rounded pug as far as temperament and I highly recommend anyone who may be interested in adopting around the March time frame after he completes his heartworm treatment.

Keep this guy on your list but don't wait too long to make a decision because he will be snatched up before you know it.

He is playful but also likes to chill: The best of both worlds!

Loves his hoomans and even though he may initially bark to strangers then he is all about making new friends.

Kisses are his love language and he will rest his chin on you while watching tv.

Loves car rides and is friendly towards other dogs no matter what size.

Toby is very smart and will do anything to please you.

He will be available by late February after defeating heartworms.

Tony won’t last long so apply to meet him today!

Please Welcome Imelda Imelda arrived this afternoon from the RGV.

It has been a long time since the condition of a foster has created such rage and disgust in me.

What in the Sam Hill is the human race coming to???

Imelda has massive scabs and bleeding wounds all over just from itching!

And her head is entirely covered in skin that is raw and scabby.

I can't pet her without hitting one of them.

It's not often that I cry on the way home with a new foster.

I immediately gave her a medicated bath and let it soak in for 20 minutes to see if it would give her some relief.

I'm pretty sure bathing is a foreign concept to her.

She's now in pj's to hopefully stop her from making herself bleed.

She goes to the vet tomorrow for intake and we'll know more about her condition after that.

What we know now: Imelda is thought to be around 12.

She has had untreated demodex for a very long time She has blood in her urine She has severe dental disease that will likely cost her most of her teeth.

Looks like her eyes haven't been cared for Heartworms ?

More than likely ??

Probably not spayed I am so angry that she has been so neglected for a very large part of her life, maybe forever.

It looks like she may have been a mother many times over so she may come from a puppy mill or backyard breeder.

But now that my rant is over, negativity doesn't do anything for Imelda and raises my blood pressure.

She is where she needs to be now.

PugHearts will make sure she receives the medical attention she so desperately needs and I will make sure she is loved and taught that some people care and will keep her safe.

Thank you to JV for getting her out of the shelter and driving all the way to Houston today with her.

She is such a pretty girl and I'm so excited to see her personality develop and to see her all healed and ready to find a home that she has no idea exists for h

Brielle (8569)

Every once in a while, a dog arrives who reminds us exactly why we do what we do.

This month, that dog is Brielle.

Brielle was brought to a shelter as a stray and immediately rushed into our care due to her severe medical condition.

At only six years old, she is facing the consequences of long-term neglect, untreated ear infections that caused calcification and painful mass growth inside both ear canals.

Her balance is affected, she is uncomfortable, and the world around her feels scary.

Despite everything she has endured, we see glimmers of the sweet spirit inside her.

Those little bursts of joy that give us so much hope for the future.?

On Monday, Brielle was examined by our vet and it confirmed the difficult reality: her ear canals are hardened and narrowed to the point where the only treatment option is surgical intervention.

Brielle is currently undergoing aggressive antibiotic care and cold laser therapy to prepare her for the total ear canal ablation.

This surgery will remove the infected canals entirely, which means Brielle will lose the remainder of her hearing, but it will finally free her from the constant pain she has been living with for far too long.

Her road to recovery will not be easy, and it certainly will not be inexpensive.

Please keep Brielle and her veterinary team in your thoughts as we enter this critical phase of her care.

And if you are able, we would be deeply grateful for any donation toward her medical expenses.

Foster Mila is discovering the good life…It’s been a whirlwind since we brought PH Mila home from the kennel.

One of the things Mila does to help regulate her overwhelming feelings is to hold a stuffie toy in her mouth.

If one stuffie is good, then 2 is better, right?!

This sweet girl is resilient and resourceful, and she’s already settling down.

We’ll be watching for the 3-3-3 rule (3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to find their place and learn the routine, 3 month to truly settle in and show full personality).

So far, Mila has shown us she is sweet and affectionate and loves toys, especially stuffies.

Keep following Mila’s journey!

She’s ready to adopt now and we’ll continue to share what we learn as we get to know her.

3 years old, 22lbs, heartworm negative, spayed, nares and palate surgery , ready for her FUREVER!

Pumpkin is between 8–12 months old, and despite her young age, she’s already experienced neglect.

She is also heartworm positive.

I cannot stress enough the importance of year-round heartworm prevention.

Please, please keep your dogs protected.

Heartworms are no joke, and now instead of this sweet, beautiful girl being adoptable in a few weeks, she’ll have to stay with me until March for treatment something that was completely preventable.

There is absolutely no reason for this to happen.

Pumpkin is going to make an incredible addition to someone’s family, so I wouldn’t wait to get your application in.

She likely won’t be available if you wait until March.

Please welcome Jackson to the rescue!

This sweet, 3-year-old boy absolutely adores his people.

If you’re looking for a true shadow, Jackson is your guy.

He loves relaxing on the couch in the evenings and, on work-from-home days, he’s usually sprawled out under the desk near my feet.

He’ll occasionally wake up to look out the window, but squirrels and passersby don’t really interest him—he’d rather be close to his humans.

Jackson sleeps in a crate at night and does very well.

While he’d happily trade it for the big bed with his people, he’s learned that his crate is his safe place.

He wasn’t thrilled his first night, but now he only fusses a little on the weekends—mostly because a pug knows breakfast can’t wait!

He gets along great with other dogs and has no issues letting my alpha run the house.

He’s learning how to play with my Boxer and has discovered the toy box, often helping himself to a bone and hopping up on the couch to chew while we watch TV.

He has shown zero interest in inappropriate chewing.

Jackson is crate trained, doing well with his house manners, and is learning to ring a bell to let us know when he needs to go outside.

Most of the time he waits by the door, but he’s already tapped the bell a few times.

He’s a smart boy and will have this skill mastered in no time!

He’s already been neutered and has had his nares and palate surgery.

He takes daily eye drops for mild dry eye, but he sits patiently the entire time and happily accepts his treat once I’m done.

He’s a healthy boy and ready to join his forever family!

Please welcome Kristoff to PugHearts.

Foster Kristoff is estimated to be around 6 years old and came to PugHearts after he was found wandering the streets.

He is very spunky and loves to be in the know of what’s happening around his foster home.

Thankfully he is heart worm negative, but his time on the streets did leave him with a lingering cough after an upper respiratory infection.

He will need to be neutered after he is completely recovered.

Kristoff is a sweetheart that gets along with the other dogs in his foster home and loves to walk around in the backyard.

He really enjoys spending time cuddled with his humans.

He is crate trained and sleeps quietly all night long.

And he is potty trained and has not had any accidents in his foster home.

Please give a warm PugHearts’ welcome to Remington.

This sweet boy came to us after his owner sadly passed away, and from the moment he arrived, it was clear he was deeply loved.

At 9 years old, Remington is a beautiful boy with the softest expression and a heart to match.

Remington gets along wonderfully with other dogs, lights up when you call his name (the head tilts are truly unmatched), and sleeps quietly through the night.

Even though he won’t be ready for adoption for a few more weeks, he truly deserves a special family to call his very own.

We are still getting to know this handsome fella, but welcome PugHearts, Remington — we’re so glad you are here!

Estimated to be around a year old, she carries herself with the poise and manners of a pup who’s already learned a thing or two about the world.

Dahlia isn’t the whirlwind of chaos many expect from a young pug—she’s a little unsure, needing guidance & the assurance of other dogs around her.

Every day in foster care, Dahlia reveals a little more of who she is—her quirks, her preferences, her blossoming confidence.

There’s a whole personality waiting to unfold, and we’re lucky enough to witness it in real time.

Meet Mariah, a three-year-old pug with a whole lot of personality packed into her tiny frame.

She’s a gorgeous little chatterbox who always has something to “say,” especially when she’s excited or looking for attention—which is often.

Mariah thrives on being close to her people, happily following you from room to room just to be part of whatever you’re doing.

She’s also a big fan of canine companionship.

Playtime with other dogs is one of her favorite things, and her joyful energy makes her a fun addition to a multi-dog home.

Since she’s still settling into foster life, we’re learning more about her every day.

Early impressions show that she’s doing well with house training, especially when kept on a consistent routine and taken outside regularly.

Mariah is affectionate, social, and full of charm—an irresistible little pug who’s ready to bring laughter and love to her future family.

Brighton here to report that playtime is VERY serious business I may be small, but my love for toys is BIG.

Give me a sunny patch of grass, a squeaky (or tennis ball), and a human to cheer me on, and I’m living my best life.

I’ve got the cutest little pounce, a curly tail that never stops wagging, and eyes that say “you can’t possibly say no to me.” I’m sweet, playful, and would really love a forever family to throw my ball, cuddle me after, and call me theirs.

Until then, I’ll be right here practicing my adorable poses.
