This page is dedicated to the 653 dogs who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge either while under the care of PugHearts or with their adopted families.
Although it is always sad to lose any dog to the Bridge, we are comforted in the knowledge that they knew they were loved. Because of generous donations from people like you, even terminally ill hospice dogs have a chance to experience love and compassion in their final days.
Hildi is a cute fawn female who was transferred here from Homeward Bound Pugs in OK. We estimate she is between 3 to 5 years old and has had a tough life.
She was kept outside with a large dog and lost her eye at an early age.
Her remaining eye is completely healthy.
She has been spayed, microchipped and brought up to date on her vaccinations.
She had some mammory tumors removed this summer but has no recurrance.
Hildi has come a long way from the skittish little girl we first met.
She has learned to play and particularly enjoys toys with a noise box in them.
From Hildi's Mommy and Daddy 01/09/12: It is with a heavy heart but our beloved Heidi( Hildi 1/19/08 ) has made the trip over the Rainbow Bridge.. She is now with out pain.. We have a vision of her in a field with that smiling one eyed smushy face , running, chasing butterflies, without pain in her legs.. We are going to miss the snoring snort, the WOLF/WOLF, begging for the Puggie Kiss and her CHUBBY little belly to be rubbed.. She can now walk without pain, breathe without effort.. Will be sadly missed but never ever forgotten.
Hillary is a 13-14 yr old female.
She prefers to sleep in the bed and receive the majority of your time.
Hillary has mast cell cancer, but is doing well medically.
She has some CHF and aging issues and is on medication for her heart and arthritis.
Hillary is a sweet gently lady.
She is housebroken and does well with the other dogs in the house.
She sleeps in the bed and loves to snuggle with her people.
She gives gentle, sweet kisses and enjoys long movies.
(The longer you stay still, the happier Hillary is.)
Holly is a fawn female.
She is 6 years old and an owner surrender.
She is heartworm negative.
She has been spayed and is current on her vaccinations.
She appears to be in good health except for 'dry eye' which will require daily eyedrops.
Holly is housetrained and would much rather be inside in air conditioning than running around outside (smart girl!)
She gets along well with other dogs but her favorite thing is to receive human attention and affection.
In fact, her foster Mom reports that 'if you just look at her, she falls over, with her legs stretched out, waiting for her belly rub!!!'
Her favorite thing to do is cuddle up next to someone.
Sadly, after 3 years with her perfect family, Holly Barry passed away on May 20, 2012.
From her Mom: Our hearts are breaking for the joy and love she shared.
We will never forget how she came into our lives and feel so fortunate that we had this time with her.
Thank you for giving her life beyond her rescue and giving us the opportunity to love her.
Hercules is a 7 year old fawn male.
He comes to us from a local shelter so his history is unknown.
He is severe heartworm positive and will begin treatment immediately.
He has been brought current on his vaccinations and microchipped.
He has been neutered.
From Hercules' foster: He has completed heartworm treatment and is clear.
He is gentle and wants to please.
He appears to have been abused but is learning to trust, though he hides from loud noises or if he gets scared.
He gets along well with other animals but is really a loner.
He does love to be held and sit on your lap.
He loves children.
He would do best in a quieter environment.
Gizmo is a fawn male.
The gentle senior man is a reserved and calm guy.
He has been adopted and returned to PugHearts twice.
Neither time was the issue with him.
He is now a bit standoffish and reserved (I think to protect himself) until he knows you well.
He is heartworm negative and uses the doggie door in my house.
Gizmo loves kids and wants to be near people as much as he can.
Gizmo has an undeveloped eye, but there are no other health issues.
Updated 8-11-17: Sweet Gizmo crossed over the Rainbow Bridge today.
He was loved and cherished and knew kindness and warmth in his final days.
Rest well, sweet little man.
Guyla is a gorgeous fawn female.
She is 3 years old.
She is heartworm negative and in excellent health.
She has been spayed, microchipped and is current on her vaccinations.
She is a bit timid at first, but playful and funny when she learns to trust.
From Guyla's foster: Guyla is an absolutely adorable puppy.
Although she's full-grown, she's half the size and twice the energy of any other pug we've had in our home.
She wants nothing more than to run, chase, wrestle, and explore.
She's also quite vocal, with a louder bark than you'd expect out of such a little bit!
She's a terror to cats, and is always trying to get the rest of our pack to play.
She instinctively defers to our Alpha bitch, but anyone else is fair game.
She's always ready with lots of kisses, and if no one wants to play, there's always her tail to chase.
She's content to snuggle when she's worn out, which takes a lot!
This one needs training, discipline and impulse control, but she's already bonding well with the human members of her pack.
She's smart and learning rapidly.
If you have the patience, this one will bring you endless joy, laughter and entertainment.
Guyla was adopted and became Dumpling.
She passed away 2/24/12.
Helen is a fawn female.
She is 4 years old.
She is an owner surrender.
Gunner was a 4 year old fawn male.
He was an owner surrender that came to us critically ill.
Sadly we could not save him.
Gunner lost his fight on the 29th November 2011.
He will be missed by those who he came in contact with.
He tried.
Gidget is a 13 year old black female.
She is owner surrended through no fault of her own.
She is heartworm negative.
She came to us with some skin issues that are resolved for the most part under medical care.
She has been spayed, microchipped and is current on her vaccinations.
From Gidget's foster: She is a delight to have .
She walked into our home and within a few days adjusted to her new life.
She gets along well with our other dogs.
She is very good with our grandchildren.
She is house broken.
Enjoys her walks.
She is more active then the average 13 year old.
Loves to play with her toys and of course get as much one on one time for cuddling and belly rubs.
Gidget crossed the Rainbow Bridge in the arms of her Mom on 11/10/2017.
She was surrounded by love and is no longer struggling.
Hamilton, aka Happy Hammy and Hammy Ham has been let down not once but twice.
He first came to us in 2012 just 3 years old and got adopted thinking it would be his forever.
He got returned 6 years later at the age of 10 due to no fault of his own and in a bad shape.
He has been battling yeast infection like I've never seen, he has had double ear infection, dental disease and we found a cancerous growth that was removed.
Through this all Hammy never lost his infectious smile.
He has been the perfect house guest and got along with everybody.
His skin has improved though the black will never fully go away and the hair might not come back either, both due to scarring.
But Hammy lucked out in the end.
He is pending adoption and will be going out of state to a family with 2 PH siblings and an amazing mom who thinks the world of him.
Loved forever by his family.
This is a difficult post but here goes.
This is Galileo, he was my foster 11 years ago.
This is one of the guys that came within a hairs breath of being a fail.
But, Martha and Jaime drove over from Lake Charles to meet him and fell in love with him too.
Galileo had the most wonderful life with them and has known nothing but love and care.
Sadly, things happen and Galileo is once again with me as a foster.
Martha has entered a nursing home and Jamie is in hospice.
They made arrangements for Galileo to be retuned to PugHearts.
Galileo is 14 and he will be going in for this intake this week.
I am pretty sure that he has dementia so I'm hoping the available medication will be able to help him.
But no matter what the prognosis is he will continue to be loved!
Isn't he just about the most handsome old man you have ever seen?
?
Grover is a fawn male.
He is 8 years old.
He is heartworm positive.
He is a spunky guy with interesting coloring to his coat.
Right now he is on antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection but will make a full recovery soon.
From Grover's foster: Grover is a very special soul & a puppy at heart.
This 8-9 year old male is sadly, heartworm positive and will have to go through treatment.
He is still an active boy and the local clown.
He loves to growl & attack my pillows, hunt stuffed animals & pounce, and go for walks & rides in the car.
He likes to talk and will hold conversations with his person.
He is excellent with other dogs, cats (including small kittens), & children.
At night he likes to snuggle up in bed and he doesn't snore TOO loud.
He is just the sweetest boy & I see not one ounce of anything but love & happiness from him towards every & anyone.
I am training him on using the pet door & although we are still working on house manners a bit he is progressing well.
If you are looking for a clown with a heart of gold Grover is definitely him!
Herman is a handsome, stately senior pug.
We estimate him to be 10-12 years old.
Herman came to us off death row.
Literally.
Thanks to the actions of a sympathetic animal control officer, he was hidden to avoid that dreadful fate.
We aren't sure how he got there, but he had been loved at some point in his life.
He is well mannered and completely housebroken.
He can't hear well or see well, but he loves well.
He's a big, loveable bear of a pug, and just wants a loving home to spend the rest of his life!
Update: Sweet little man Herman lived as a long term foster in a home filled with love and attention.
He crossed the Rainbow Bridge in peace surrounded by those who loved him on November 11, 2016.
Houston was 10 years old when he came to us in November 2013.
He was a 30 lb.
fawn male who was surrendered to us through no fault of his own when his elderly owners could no longer drive and take care of his vet needs.
He had been loved and cherished since he was a puppy, and came to us slowing down a bit and losing some sight due to chronic dry eye.
He was housebroken, leash-trained, loved kids and other dogs and was wonderfully squishy.
Foster Houston went to the Rainbow Bridge on Sunday, March 22, 2015.
He came to us 2 years ago from very loving owners.
He had 2 best friends, Neeko who crossed and was waiting at the bridge for him and Francis Bean.
Houston had the cutest head tilt and he always put his best eye forward.
His coat was like velvet and his favorite place to be touched was his neck.
He was not a runner or a player but he loved to suck on toys and always enjoyed chewing on a bone.
Houston was the best time keeper and always made sure we stayed on schedule.
Our hearts are broken and miss him very much.
Hampton is a fawn male.
He is 5 years old.
He comes from an out of state shelter.
From Hampton's foster: " Hi there!
My name is Hampton aka Hamp, Hamburger, Ham and Tugboat that's what my foster Dad calls me.
I am a 5 year old fluff muffin.
My foster Mom says that I would do well in a home as an only child or as part of a pack.
I love to give kisses and I do like to have a cuddle but I'm really an independent sort of fellow and prefer sleeping on the floor next to my humans bed so that I can really stretch out.
I do great with my foster brothers and sister and really do great on my leash when we go for long walks.
I know how to go in and out the dog door and I haven't' had any accidents in the house so I think I can say confidently that I am housebroken.
I would prefer a home with no really young 2 legged brothers or sisters but I would be a great buddy for an older boy or girl.
If you would like to meet me just contact my foster Mom and she can tell you how great I am.
Hope to meet you soon.
Love Ham!
Oh and I live to ride in the car!!
Sadly, Hampton crossed the rainbow bridge on January 14th, 2014.
We are deeply saddened to lose him, but take comfort in the knowledge that he had found his forever home and knew what it meant to be loved and adored before he went.
Honey is a 10 year old fawn female.
She is spayed, micro chipped, and up to date on her shots.
From Honey's foster: Wow!
Honey is an amazing girl!
When I first got her, she was overweight, and in dire need of better nutrition.
We have worked on this, and in the first month, Honey lost 3 pounds!
It was also difficult for her to walk, and now she trots all around the back yard.
She is doing so well with her diet.
I am so proud of her and she gets happier everyday.
Honey is incredibly sweet, and she follows me everywhere.
She likes to sleep next to me and doesn't snore!
Honey is being treated for a collapsing trachea.
Honey does have dry eye and will be on eye drops for the rest of her life.
Please consider this sweet girl to become a part of your family.
She will bring lots of love and smiles to your home.
Harriet is a 5 year old black female that was surrendered by her owner along with Ozzie, a 5 year old fawn male.
They would love to be adopted together but they would be fine on their own.
Harriet is crate trained and potty trained and she gets along well with other dogs and kids.
She likes to play with toys and go for walks and will spin around in a circle when she gets excited (especially at feeding time).
December 2015: Harriet is now hospice due to kidney failure.
She is no longer available for adoption and will live out the rest of her days as a pampered foster pug.
July 2, 2016: Harriet has now crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Gina is an 8 year old female that came to us from a shelter in Louisiana.
She is severe heartworm positive.
6-15-15: Gina was just too pretty and sweet to stay with those who loved her and whom she loved.
She crossed peacefully and safely in the arms of her foster mom.
She will be missed terribly.
Honey - the female of a bonded pair(Meeko and Honey), who is an owner surrender thru no fault of her own.
Honey is 14, spayed, heartworm negative and ready for her forever home.
She is the sweetest of sweet.
She is a true velcro pug, making every step we do.
Honey loves to snuggle, but will only sit with you if Meeko is there.
She waits on him to sit for the evening.
She has a tiny face and the softest coat - Honey is a jewel!
This wonderful pair of seniors get along well with other animals and although we have no little children around, I'm sure they would be great.
Please consider these two - they are a wonderful pair that deserve the best!
4-14-16: Sadly, Honey has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.
Gwyneth was a 2 yr old fawn female.
Sadly, she was severe heartworm positive and her heart was unable to hold up any longer.
She will be missed by the PugHearts family who loved her..... we all feel that she was not here long enough.
Gem is a 3 week old female.
She comes to us with a severe cleft palate and requiring tube feedings to eat.
Gem has a long way to go, but we are going to give her the best chance we can.
- 11-18-15 Update: Beautiful Baby Gem crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge today, one day short of being one month old.
Flight Angel Jamie flew her from Tennessee into PugHearts' loving arms.
Nurse Angels Cindy, Karen and I nurtured this baby.
She was so perfect on the outside and so imperfect on the inside (damn irresponsible breeders).
She came to us with significant birth defects, a cleft palate and hydrocephalus.
We hoped to give her a chance and she fought the good fight.
But her little body could fight no more.
Our Baby Gem, you were loved and cherished beyond words and you will never be forgotten.
Gidget was dumped with 2 other pugs.
She made it to PugHearts and we will help her find her forever family.
03-07-16: Sadly, we lost Gidget.
She crossed the Rainbow Bridge due to complications from heartworms.
Gertrude is an 8-9 yr old female.
She is heartworm negative, but extremely thin.
She is in foster care and has seen the vet.
9-27-16: Sadly, Gertrude crossed the Rainbow Bridge today.
Gertrude was a beautiful little black puggie.
She came to Pughearts from a shelter and was without exception the thinnest pug I have ever seen, or any dog except for the pictures of cruelty cases.
She was so pretty, she had a white line of fur under both eyes, it was so cute.
She didn’t like to be held and loved, I guess it’s because she was so sick.
Gertrude had pancreatic cancer and it had spread to the point that it was blocking the majority of food from being digested.
She was given everything that she needed in her last days and if she could have been saved it would have happened.
Run free sweet Gertrude and eat until you’re so fat you waddle.
Hope is a sweet girl that comes to PugHearts fighting for her life.
We are hopeful that we will be able to save her and show her that she is a princess that deserves nothing but the best in life.
Ginny is a senior female that was surrendered to a shelter in south Texas.
She is suffering from renal failure and PugHearts volunteers worked very hard to get her to SLPH and medical help as soon as they could.
She is receiving medical care and we will update soon.
Gizmo is a 12 year old senior gentleman that comes to PugHearts looking for a place to rest his head.
He is blind and dealing with some medical issues.
He is being evaluated at the vet and we will update soon.
We love you Gizmo!
Run free
Meet new Foster Hank or “Hank the Hunk” or “Hank the Tank” as my Foster Mom keeps calling me.
I’m about 7 years old and already neutered!
I’m a mature adult that goes with the flow, doesn’t chew things and I am house-trained!
One of the benefits of adopting adult!
Unfortunately I do have a few other issues that PugHearts will help me clear up and manage - dry eye (daily eye drops) and some vision loss, but I don’t let that slow me down, I get around just fine!
I will get my nose fixed so I can breathe easier, my minor allergy & skin issues will be taken care of and lastly I will have to undergo treatment for those nasty heart worms.
I imagine I will be ready to find my new home late summer or early fall pending the completion of my heartworm treatment.
This friendly gentlman was hit by a car according to his owner and brought in to us.
He does not have the use of his back legs and has quite a bit of road rash.
GABRIEL peacefully passed at 2:35pm on 8/13/2019.
He had been in a lot of pain for too long.
We tried to save him but he was in really bad shape.
I told him he was loved and that his pain will finally go away.
He was sweet and loving until his last breath.
I gave him all the treats he wanted before.
Such a loving boy even through all that pain.
I first found out about Grayson from a cryptic message at the end of October.
All it said was that there is an extremely sick Frenchie in a shelter scheduled for euthanasia today that we were trying to pull him out and whether I would foster to which I said of course.
It was exactly 3 days later when I got a call from the director of the rescue.
Grayson made it to our vet and his evaluation was not good.
He had a left sided failure caused by a genetic heart issue complicated by heartworms, a completely preventable condition, and he was given a week to live.
I felt like I couldn’t breathe but I also knew this dog needed to come here.
I didn’t sleep that night.
I felt like there had to be more I could do for this dog and then it hit me – Grayson is dying and he never got to experience anything!
clearly, we will do a bucket list for him.
We took him to the beach where he tried to chase the seagulls even though he could barely walk, to a ranch where he got kissed by a wild pony, on a convertible ride to get a puppachino, we cooked him steak, he met and peed on a giant tortoise, had a professional photoshoot and visited Bayou Bend Gardens.
Before we knew it, a week turned into two, then three and before we knew it he had people overseas reaching out about his story.
People were asking about heartworms and he was making a difference.
Just as we began hoping Grayson may celebrate New Year with us, an upper respiratory infection hit him with an incredible strength.
For two weeks we fought as hard as we could for him hoping his appetite would pick back up knowing well this may be it.
Grayson came to us beyond starved and he could barely pick up his tummy filled with fluid caused by his heart failure – if he ever got to the point where he couldn’t walk, we knew it would be unfair to keep it going.
And then he finally had a good day, and one after that, he got excited about meal times and I felt like I could breathe again.
As of today, Grayson got to eat Turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas both, he celebrated Mother's and Father's day, he has met endless friends and lived a life he should have had from the start.
None of this changes the fact that his condition is terminal.
When his symptoms become severe enough and he can no longer enjoy his life, we will be there to hold him as he crosses over.
But it will not be today.
This is a story of a rescue taking in a dog that will never make it out.
A dog that never stood a chance but a dog whose life has been turned around because the rescue stepped in.
His story could have ended in that shelter but it did not.
Living with Grayson for the past 2 months has taught us more than I would have ever thought a dog could.
Grayson was abused and he will pay the ultimate price yet he is not bitter at all, the opposite in fact.
He loves people and wants to be loved on all day long.
He has learned his new name within days and runs to us as fast as his body allows him to.
Having him here has made us to cherish every single day because we are not promised tomorrow.
He taught us to let go of our baggage and live in the now.
Your donations help not only dogs getting ready for adoptions but also dogs like Grayson, dogs that will live out the rest of their days in rescue.
We thank you for your support.
HOPICE!
I picked up Gabriel this afternoon, I'll be calling him Gabe though.
I have had CHF fosters before but nothing like Gabe.
He wanted to get into the front seat with me but couldn't get anything but his shoulders through the seats because of the size of his stomach/chest.
So he settled for using the console as a pillow.
He seems to be a very sweet boy, I had to walk with him when they were taking him back because he didn't want to go with them.
This boy is getting a bath as soon as possible though, there is nothing as bad as a dirty, stinky bull dog!
I'm hoping that Dr. H can make him comfortable and he can have whatever time he has left enjoying life.
Foster Gabe wants to say Thank You to Cindy, Erika and Pug Hearts for giving him honorary pug status and a place to be for this Thanksgiving.
He’s such a good boy and seems to be comfortable.
HOSPICE
Sweet Gregory came to PugHearts with a severe colorectal stricture.
Sadly, despite aggressive medical management, we were unable to make this precious boy comfortable.
He was released from his failing body to run free at the Rainbow Bridge with the other PugHearts babies until we all meet again.
Homer is a sweet, gentle older man that comes to PugHearts from the Rio Grande Valley.
He is neutered and has obviously been in a home before.
Sadly, he has a large mast cell tumor on his back.
We know it will need to be surgically removed.
Homer is hospice.
Homer is now hospice due to metastatic mast cell cancer in his abdomen.
Meet foster Gerald.
Gerald was found as a stray.
He is 12 years old severely Heartworm positive.
He also has mainstem bronchi collapse.
He had a testicular tumor and a large dermal mass that was removed.
(Picture in comments) Gerald is deaf and has limited vision with corneal pigmentation in both eyes.
He has arthritis and intervertebral disc disease.
This baby has a long road of healing to do, but he is safe now.
Gerald should not have had to go through this, but with your support he will get the care he needs.
Foster Honey is a sweet girl who loves to be by your side at all times.
She is a tiny girl that came to PugHearts weighing only 10 pounds.
After a few weeks with PugHearts, she has topped 12 lbs.
Honey gets along well with cats and other dogs.
She loves walks and does well on a leash.
Honey will be spayed soon and will then be ready for her furever home.
Her approximate age is 11 but she has a lot of energy and little gray hair.
She does very well with small children and loves to snuggle.
Gramps here, I’m 12 years old.
I walk a little wonky, but I get around well.
I can see and hear.
I love to sit with you and snuggle.
I do well with other dogs and cats and with kids.
FoMo says I am just a love pug.
I am looking for my forever home.
Will you be my forever family?
Rest In Peace, Foster Hubert.
From his foster mom: Last week we took in 14 year old Foster Hubert with the intention of getting him all healthy despite his two page long medical summary and finding him a special home for his golden years.
It became quickly apparent that Hubert was a quality of life evaluation case, not because of his physical ability, but because of his mind being gone.
Hubert was senile, the worst case of senility I have ever seen and while I was representing at Pugfest in KY, my husband was the one caring for Hubert, which took a massive mental toll on him.
This poor guy would pace until he wore himself out to the point of falling over and not being able to stand.
He’d then scream trying to get up to pace more.
He would also scream every 15-30 minutes at night.
He would scream when he was alone, when he was with us, he would scream outside and inside, day and night.
Nothing we tried consoled him.
We wanted to allow time to try some medication, but even on horse doses we saw no relief.
I am sick, so my husband is by himself on his way to help Hubert cross the rainbow bridge.
I wish we got to meet who Hubert truly was, not this sad shell of once a majestic dog.
We love you, you will be back to your old self soon, reunited with your family.
???
?
Gus, bonded with Gracie, is a 12yr old owner surrender who was loved his whole life.
He is a gentle giant, who wants nothing more than to have a special home for his retirement days.
Gus is loyal and will make every step you do - likes to work in the yard, help with housework, and lay at your feet while you work from home!
Gus watches out for Gracie and will always know where she is.
He likes to eat next to her and often won't eat until she does.
The perfect Gentleman.
Please consider these two and they are amazingly sweet, housebroken, will use a crate-but prefer to be free in the house and like to be with their humans at all times!
Gracie is a 12 yr old owner surrender who has been loved so much.
She is more shy and will wait for you to come back to the room where you should be!
Gracie is almost blind, does see shadows, gets around well on her own but is also getting used to being carried outside and back in.
Gracie likes to be close to you, to the point of melting into you...she is what we call velcro!!
And truly that is all she wants - to be with you, be loved by you, and show you her love!
Please consider adopting a senior - They have lots of love and life to give!
Sweet, housebroken, crate trained, and loves to sleep in a big bed!
!
Gracelynn was found wandering near the Texas-Mexico border emaciated, dehydrated, anemic and with ulcers in each eye making her nearly blind.
Her temperature at the time of rescue was only 96 degrees and she weighed just under 8 pounds.
Gracelynn is also heartworm positive.
Gracelynn is just over a year old.
The finder tried to get her treated but realized Gracelynn needed more so she surrendered her to PugHearts to get the treatment she needed and deserved.
Once in Pughearts care, Gracelynn was started on medicated eye drops and doxycycline to help with her anemia, due to her tick borne disease we do commonly see in our Valley Dogs.
Gracelynn was put on a high fat diet to get her gaining weight.
Just when we thought her eyes were making progress in the right direction, both ulcers became active again and we knew a double enucleation would be our best option to make Gracelynn comfortable.
While under anesthesia she was also spayed.
After 2 days in her foster home she acted like her eyes were still there!
She acclimated to her surroundings, followed her foster mommy’s voice and listened to her foster siblings directions.
She uses the stairs to get on and off the big bed, she maneuvers in and out the back door and she even knows where all the toys are.
Her recovery and resilience is nothing short of amazing!
Gracelynn is gaining weight and is becoming the spoiled healthy dog she was meant to be.
Her next and final hurdle will be going thru heartworm treatment, but I know she will conquer that like she has everything else.
Heidi is an 8 year old owner surrender.
Sadly, she is very ill, heartworm positive and not seeming to gain any weight, no matter what we try.
This precious angel was released from her failing body and allowed to run free at the Rainbow Bridge.
Wait for me sweetheart, I will see you again.
Sweet Guthrie was found lethargic and laying in the cold rain.
We believe that he is about 9 years old and blind.
He was very weak.
Due to the extent of his injuries, we were unable to save him.
He gained his wings before he could know what it was like to be truly loved.
He will always be a PugHearts dog and has an amazing grumble waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge.
Gino comes to PugHearts as a 13 yr old owner surrender, his family sadly could no longer care for him.
Gino is a sweet gentleman that struggles with his back end, and even though his legs fold up under him, he maneuvers around the house and yard just fine.
He is potty trained, but sometimes can't always get outside.
If given time outside, he will do his business, true gentlemen don't like to be rushed.
Gino is pretty healthy for a senior man, is altered, has a great grill and likes to sing the language of his peoples!!
He would be good as an only dog or in a grumble Please consider letting him live his best life surrounded by love and donuts.
Consider him because he needs us.
Consider him because he has so much love to give.
Hudson was found roaming the streets of Pasadena.
He was severely underweight, emaciated and covered in fleas.
Animal Control Officers picked him up and took him to the shelter where he was checked for a chip and held for the appropriate stray hold.
Once no one came forward, PugHearts was called and he was surrendered to us.
It was found on his intake that Hudson also had heartworms and a distended belly from being so malnourished.
He had just about every intestinal parasite you could imagine as well as high counts of bacteria in his bowels.
After spending several weeks in his foster home not gaining weight, more tests were run to ensure Hudson didn’t have more going on.
Thankfully he was only diagnosed with Chronic Bowel Disease, which more time, increased food intake and a few rounds of meds can help.
Poor Hudson’s little body had really taken a beating, and at only 13 pounds too.
We estimate a good 5 pound weight would be ideal for him.
Hudson will be healing, get treated for heartworms, as well as having his neuter and breathing surgeries prior to adoption.
You seriously don’t want to miss out on this guy.
He looks like a little cartoon character with his animated facial expressions and the sweetest eyes around.
Hudson loves everyone here and loves carrying the dogs beds from room to room.
He does well in the crate and is working on house training, which has taken longer with such a nasty bowel, but he’s doing so much better.
He loves to follow his foster mommy around the house and sits perfectly when it’s time for treats.
Hudson is estimated to be 3 years old, and sadly I don’t think much love or care came to him in those years.
He deserves the world and PugHearts will make sure that his new family will give it to him.
Until then, he’s learning about spoiling and lots of love, food and snuggles in his foster home.
My precious Howard will be a PugHearts hospice baby.
His medical intake uncovered many challenges that he has been dealing with for some time.
We have corrected many and started care for the others.
~Severe dental disease - today he lost most of his teeth.
~What we thought was infected and raw facial folds turned out to be a ruptured abscess that communicated from his face into the sinus cavity - this was cleaned and closed today.
~Severe dry eye, with one larger than the other - this was addressed today and appears to be old trauma to his face.
His jaw has limited ability to open mouth secondary to adhesions or injury and right side of mouth.
Severe nasal fold pyoderma misshapen eyes with marked corneal pigmentation.
Suspect dry eye.
Decreased vision.
~He was neutered.
Several penetrating wounds found around his backside.
~Muscle atrophy noted in rear legs with marked pain on lumbar stress suspect spondylosis.
Arch spine noted.
~3 x 5 cm mass associated with the right dorsal rectum - this was removed today and we believe it to be aggressive carcinoma and it was submitted for pathology.
~~~ He is home tonight and had a full dinner and lots of love.
I am in love with this boy already.
Higgins is an 8 year old male from the RGV.
He is heartworm negative and ready for adoption.
Higgins is a lover and cuddler.
He watches his foster Mom with adoring eyes and follow me everywhere.
This precious sweet soul is looking for a calm, loving family to give his undying affection to.
Well, it's happened again, another BBB (Black, blind and beautiful).
Please welcome Hattie Mae.
I just picked her up from Victoria so I have absolutely no info on her as to health or age until her intake on Tuesday.
I do know she's blind and she's also beautiful.
She's a little anxious right now and is getting to know her way around the house.
I'm leaving her alone so she can get it figured out.
She's not into the whole holding concept so we have our work cut out.
I don't know her story but I don't think she's been a pet.
Today is truly “Any pug, at any age, in any condition, anytime.” Meet Hope.
We got the call from the shelter this morning, and it appears sweet 2-year-old Hope was hit by a car.
She cannot use her back legs, but she is safe now and will get the absolute best care we can give her.
She has a long road ahead, and we can really use your support as we fight for this precious girl.
Please send all your prayers, good thoughts, and healing energy for Hope
