Rainbow Bridge

This page is dedicated to the 653 dogs who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge either while under the care of PugHearts or with their adopted families.

Although it is always sad to lose any dog to the Bridge, we are comforted in the knowledge that they knew they were loved. Because of generous donations from people like you, even terminally ill hospice dogs have a chance to experience love and compassion in their final days.

Levi

Our Levi - By Luanna Fielder We adopted Levi almost three years ago after meeting him at a Pug meet up.

I would throw his ball and he would come back and sit by me every time.

Cindy said "Levi doesn't ever sit by anyone like that"....Levi was choosing me for his forever home and a couple of weeks later he was ours!

Levi was our precious sweet little buddy.

He had a swagger to his walk and a bounce when he pranced.

He would cock his little head to the side when I walked in the house after work, make sure it was me, run to get his ball and then sit down and cuddle beside me on the couch for awhile.

I am greatly missing that!!

His tail was down and straight for sometime after we got him but then he realized..."Hey, I am HOME!"

and his tail was curled up and wagging all the time.

He and his brother Chubbs got along very well, they would cuddle, play tug-of-war and have the occasional fight.

Levi was a home body, never wanting to go anywhere.

Instead of getting excited when he heard the tags on his halter jingle he would go and get on my bed in hopes that I wouldn't find him.

But once he knew he was going to the groomer or that I was staying with him he was ok.

I love both of my pugs (Chubbs and Levi) very much but Levi stole my heart!

Maybe cause of his medical problems that were so much like my CdLS daughter (they both had a cleft palate repair and both suffered with seizures).

There is so much about Levi to share and so little space but I would like to share some of his character: Levi would bark at the Progressive Insurance commercials, other than that he didn't care what was on the tv.

He would be asleep and the commercial would come on and he would bark a couple of times and that was it.

It was hilarious.

Levi, from day one, slept in the bed, there was no more laundry basket for him.

You never "took" Levi out to potty, he went when HE knew he needed to go.

Levi loved his bed in the living room.

Levi and RUGS......he would rearrange them all the time, the little door rugs, the runner in the front hallway but the one that always baffled him was the heavy 8 x 10 that he couldn't budge but with corner in mouth he would growl at it just the same.

Levi loved roughing with my shoes and stuffed animals and playing with Chubbs.

Levi was always at my feet in the kitchen looking for any scraps that may fall on the floor.

Levi knew the words: eat, hungry, food, TREAT, bath treat (cause that was different than a regular treat) buddy (he would smile at me when I called him that) and medicine.

At 6:30am every morning he would get up and go outside to the bathroom and then come back to bed and if daddy wasn't up he would bark to get him up and then follow him into the bathroom.

At night daddy would turn his light off at his chair to go to bed, Levi would come protect me and then nip ME....I never understood why he didn't nip daddy.

HA!

Levi loved loved loved to cuddle and most of all: LEVI LOVED HIS BALL!!!

Levi was very precious and sweet and, on May 6, 2011, was taken from us WAY to soon!

I called him my "doggie vacumn" cause he was always picking something up and this time it was a piece of thread that I missed picking up off the floor.

That thread cost him his life.

He tried ever so hard to pull thru this illness but he was already so weak before we found out what was the problem.

I know he loved his family and his home and we loved him ever so much and will greatly miss him.

There isn't an inch of our home that doesn't have a reminder of Levi, which makes it ever so hard to say goodbye.

We had him cremated with his ball and he's coming back home to be with us forever.

He was such a sweet, sweet little boy.

I will miss his smiles and cuddles.

Levi is now running healthy and happy with so many of those that have gone before him on the other side of the Rainbow bridge and I can feel him looking over us.

HAVE FUN BUDDY!!!

Thank you for blessing us and making us your family.

WE LOVE YOU!!

Lilly

Lilly was a sweet fawn female who was found on the streets of Houston.

When she came to us she was covered with mast cell tumors.

She was seen by a Oncologist who confirmed that there was nothing that could be done.

She was with us for just a short time, but in that time she was loved.

Lisa

Lisa is a sweet fawn female who came to us from a local shelter after somebody left her and her "sister" Lacey at their door.

Lacey and Lisa are extremely bonded pair and need to stay together.

Lisa has obviously had her left eye removed some time ago and it does not cause her any issue now.

She has tested positive for heartworms and will begin treatment soon.

She has been brought up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and spayed.

From Lacey & Lisa's foster: Lisa & Lacey truly are a bonded pair.

They are always together.

They are either cuddling together, sleeping together, cleaning each others faces, or playing together.

It is so precious to watch the two of them.

We aren't 100% sure of their history, but whatever it was must have included some not so nice humans.

They are still very cautious of humans and still often cower and run when you reach down to pick them up.

They are learning to trust us though.

When I sit with them, they both will come up and give me double team pug kisses!

Lacey seems to be more social than Lisa, although Lisa has made a lot of progress since we've had them.

They are learning what toys are finally!

We are still working on the potty training, but they are getting a little better each day.

They get along well with other dogs - they don't have the same trust issues with them as they do humans.

In fact, I often find them grooming my own dogs - one on each side!

Lisa & Lacey would do great in a quiet environment with patient humans who will help them learn that not all humans hurt.

From their humans: They were the best girls and gave us so much joy!!

I used to work out on the floor and if they caught me they would almost smother me with kisses, one of them on each side of my face.

There would be a lot of laughter.

In their last few years they stayed with my husband in his office.

Whenever he left they were right behind him.

It was a pug train.

Thank you so much and thank you for allowing us to adopt them.

They were so special to us.

Lacey is an adorable fawn female who came to us from a local shelter after somebody left her and her "sister" Lisa at their door one night.

We do know that she had her right eye removed some time ago.

We also know that Lacey and Lisa are extremely bonded pair and need to stay together.

Lil nicky

Lil Nicky is a fawn male.

He is about 10 years old.

He is an owner surrender through no fault of his own.

He has been neutered, microchipped and is current on his vaccinations.

He is housebroken, happy and looking for a great family to love him.

He is currently on a diet and geting some exercise.

From Lil Nicky's foster: Lil Nicky is not that little.

He is a 10 year old stocky (about 27 pounds) male.

Nicky has a waist line and is not terribly overweight..he is just a BIG guy.

Nicky is heartworm negative, housebroken, healthy and ready to party.

He is the class clown and will keep you laughing daily.

Nicky is so broad across his chest that he waddles when he is running around.

He uses the doggie door and will play with the soft toys in the house.

Nicky wants a family that will allow him to keep them laughing and smiling with him all the time.

Mar 3, 2014: Nicky "Chubbo" Higgins crossed the rainbow bridge this morning.

He was surrounded by family and it was very peaceful.

Run free little/big guy!

We love you!!

Lilo

Lilo is a fawn female.

She comes to us from a local shelter so we do not know her history but it doesn't look like anyone has been taking care of her for a while.

She appears to be about 5 years old.

She has "hot spots" on her neck which we are treating.

She has not been spayed but will be prior to placement.

She is also heartworm positive and will have treatment.

She has been brought up to date on her vaccinations and microchipped.

Kingsley

Kingsley is a fawn male.

He comes to us from an animal control facility.

We believe he is about 8 years old.

He is heartworm positive and will begin treatment shortly.

He has been neutered, microchipped and is current on his vaccinations.

We don't believe he was an inside dog in his prior life due to his heartworm status and the fact that he was not housetrained.

He is learning quickly what it's like to live indoors, and seems to like it!

From Kinglsey's foster: He is a real sweetheart.

He loves the other pugs and gets along well with other breeds when we walk.

He does demand attention though when the other dogs are around.

They usually all sleep in one bed in the office during the day and he sleeps next to me at night.

He does this cute thing where he will sit down next to one of the dogs or a person and he just rests his head on them, like he is on the pic on Rosie (see additional photos) 03/01/16: Sweet Kingsley has left us for the Rainbow Bridge.

Lilly

Lilly is a fawn female.

She was found wandering the streets with no tags or microchip.

We believe she is about 10 years old.

She has been spayed, microchipped and brought current on her vaccinations.

She is heartworm negative.

She is suffering from itchy skin - possibly due to poor nutrition or allergies.

She also has some coughing and sneezing so we will have her checked by our vet.

Layla

Layla is a fawn female.

She is 3 years old.

She comes to us from a local shelter.

She is heartworm positive and will begin treatment shortly.

She has been spayed and microchipped and is current on her vaccinations.

Sadly, Layla suddenly became sick and passed away.

She was spoiled rotten by her foster Mom and will be missed.

Luna

Luna is a black female.

She comes to us from an animal control facility.

She is 4 years old.

She is severe heartworm positive and will begin treatment shortly.

She also has a luxating patella and a bad left hip.

We believe she had been used for breeding previously.

She has now been spayed and is current on her vaccinations.

From Luna's foster: Luna is one beautiful little Puggie girl!!!

She is very small and has the sweetest face.

She was really quite shy when she first arrived, but over the course of a few weeks has made so much progress it's amazing.

She is right in the mist of everyone else now seeking to get her share of the attention.

She is quite excited when she first gets on my lap but after a little petting and calming down she loves to just be held.

She is very happy to give as many Puggie kisses as you want.

She gets on extremely well with other dogs (including my daughter's Great Dane) and, typical of a Pug, loves everyone that comes to visit.

She also has very good house manners.

While some Pugs with Luna's history of breeding find the adjustment to being in a home quite challenging she seems to be quite satisfied with a nice soft bed, regular meals and a lap to cuddle on.

She will give some lucky family years of entertainment and love.

Lou

Lou came to PugHearts along with his buddy Andy and was estimated to be about 6 years old.

We adopted him on August 23rd, 2007.

Lou Bear was the sweetest puggy I ever met.

He loved nothing more than a never-ending belly rub and he gave the best cuddles.

The way he would look at you with those sad puggy eyes would just melt your heart.

Unfortunately, we lost our poor Lou Lou to those nasty heartworms on April 18th, 2009, but he went peacefully in his sleep while taking a nap with his mommy.

He will forever be remembered and missed.

Lopez

Lopez came to PugHearts after being found leaning against the car of a very kind lady.

He was in rough shape and taken to our vet.

Lopez was found to have a broken jaw and a pelvis broken in 3 places.

He was severe heartworm positive and suffering from sarcoptic mange.

Sadly, he developed pneumonia and his body was not strong enough to fight it.

Lopez was a sweet boy and a real cuddler.

He was loved by the kind lady that helped him get to us, all of PugHearts and the wonderful staff at Sugarland Pet Hospital.

While we had all hoped for a happy ending and a forever home for Lopez, it was not to be.

He will remain in the hearts of all those that he touched in his struggle.

We love you Lopez and know you are now running and playing with those that crossed the bridge ahead of you.

Leia

Leia is a fawn female.

She came to us with her sister Lee Lee.

After she has been checked out by our vet and settles into a foster home, we will post a full bio.

Meanwhile she, like her sister, has been put on a diet to get her to a healthier weight.

Leelee

Lee Lee is a fawn female.

She comes to us with her sister Leia.

We will post more once she has settled into a foster home.

What we can say is that she is now on a strict diet to get her healthy for this summer heat.

Lee Lee came to me a very chunky monkey- but we have her on a diet and she walks and plays with the other dogs so she is starting to get a waistline!

She is a very funny girl- always smiling and a little sneaky!

She watches the other dogs very quietly from the side, and then strikes for her chance to grab a toy or extra food, and runs….

it is like a game for her.

She thinks she deserves a treat for everything she does and will run to the treat cabinet and just stare at the door – like she can open it with mind control.

She is excellent on the leash and has some basic commands down.

A wonderful, sweet girl!

She gets along very well with my other dogs, but you can tell she thinks she is more human than dog.

LeeLee crossed the Rainbow Bridge in the arms of her Mom, sourrounded by nothing but love in September 2017

Lucille

Lucille is a fawn female.

She is 7-8 years old.

She came to us after she was rescued from a neglectful home.

She has been with her current foster family for 4 years.

Lucille (or Lucy as we call her) is an incredibly sweet girl.

She gets along great with our other 2 pugs and has NEVER bit or even nipped or growled at anyone in the 4 years we have had her.

She has a very soft disposition.

Lucy isn't very active and prefers to sleep 90% of the day.

After observing her the past 4 years, Lucy doesn't seem to have much muscle or muscle control.

She doesn't easily get up and down wood stairs, cannot jump on or off of furniture and does not prefer much outdoor activity or play.

She follows you from room to room and sits at your feet or next to you wherever you go.

She is potty trained and rarely has accidents in the house.

Most likely a result of her past neglectful home, she is a classic over-eater.

She is ravenous at meal times and will eat her siblings food if not closely monitored.

Lucy has a heart condition that requires 2 heart medications daily for the rest of her life - Enalapril and Lasix.

Since being on this medication, her heart condition has greatly improved and she has shown no other signs of distress.

Lucy also has chronic dry eye.

She requires drops 2-3 times a day for life.

Lucy has had issues with her trachea collapsing from time to time.

On occasion she requires medication to help with this.

It is typically brought on from an environmental irritant once a year and is under control with medication in one months time.

Update: Lucille crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 12/30/16.

She spent four years with her foster family; really her true home.

She was loved.

Lizzie

Lizzie is a black female with dapples of gray and a cute little lopsided underbite.

She is 13 years old.

She is in overall good health; she is heartworm positive.

She has been spayed, microchipped and is current on her vaccinations.

Lizzie is a sweetheart of a girl.

She is your typical mellow senior girl.

She doesn't get frazzled or overly excited, she just goes about her business.

She is housetrained, uses a doggie door and gets on very well with other dogs.

She doesn't hear too well, so she won't always respond if she's sleeping and you call her name.

With a gentle touch she'll get up and follow you wherever you want her to go.

She is a lovely girl who just needs a companion to spend her days with.

5-3-14: Our sweet foster Lizzie left us today.

The pain in her 16 yr old body was no longer controllable and she is now free of it.

Leah

10/21/2019 Leah was a foster fail, who wound up being far more bossy than I thought.

She was definitely the alpha in the pack.

She loved being someone else’s baby (mine.)

She kept the house in line, except when she was busy shredding beds like a little fuzzy moth.

She started having trouble breathing so was rushed to the vet.

I had tests and radiology, nothing found except for a slightly enlarged heart and some tracheal collapse but nothing indicating why she was having problems out of oxygen.

She was also cold and not able to maintain her temperature.

I had contacted her prior owner who said she made a mistake.

Leah wasn’t 11, she was actually 15.

With this in mind, the vet and I came to the conclusion she was starting her journey due of age.

She was serenaded on her way to the bridge with Abba—a rousing chorus of “Mama Leah” which is what I always sang to her when I got home from work.

She gave me kisses until the sedative took hold and we sang her over the rainbow bridge.

Sleep well, sweet Mama Leah.

Lilly

From Lily's Dad Mark On Monday the 5th of October, I helped Lucy Lu over Rainbow Bridge.

On Sunday morning after carrying her to the back yard to do her business she gave me “the” look.

Daddy I’m ready to go.

My Girl had severe hip dysplasia.

I made the call to Lucy’s vet on Monday morning to make the appointment.

They couldn’t take until 2:30.

So, we took a long drive to pass the time.

I took some treats and a container of water.

We drove around for three hours.

I bought her favorite snack, French fries which she enjoyed.

We got to the Vet at 2:25.

The vet techs had her room waiting.

She was pain free shortly.

Dr. Rogers and all of the techs at True Companions Animal Hospital were so loving and caring.

Lucy was loved.

Run free of pain, sleep well knowing you were loved.

King

King is about 15 year old fawn male.

He is blind from untreated dry eye, has severe arthritis and multiple tumors that we suspect to be Mast Cell Cancers.

He is heartworm negative and needs a dental.

The tumors were removed.

He was being listed as "free to a good home" and a PugHearts person was good enough to let us know.

He is now safe and will be well cared for until a forever home comes along to allow this sweet gentle man to live the rest of his life as the King he should be.

From King (with some help from his foster): You know the "The King" was Elvis Presley so I must have some of his characteristics, with King as my name.

One, I'm portly, second I do have a sweet voice but rarely do you hear it except for special occasions.

I used to eat from the table but all that changed when I moved in here.

Can you believe green beans and kibbles is the new diet.

She doesn't know "the king" likes what ever the people are eating.

Age has taken over a bit and at about 15, I don't see anything but shadows and don't hear but I can find the pet door just fine.

Give me a couple Benadryl and this helps the allergies as well as the arthritis.

You know getting old is tough but I still have a "hunk of love" to share with a family.

King left us to cross the Rainbow Bridge on 03/29/2018 in the loving arms of his Mom.

Lupita

Lupita is an 8 year old, fawn female.

Lupita was rescued from a shelter in the Rio Grande Valley and had pneumonia, both ears were infected, both eyes were having issues and both back knees are terrible which causes her to have walking issues.

As a result of her past neglect Lupita is blind or only sees some light/shadows.

At first, I thought she was deaf, but her hearing has improved some after treatment of her ear infections.

She will need eye drops daily to treat for dry eye.

She has been brought current on her vaccinations and will be spayed when her physical condition improves.

Lupita is a tiny girl who loves attention.

She follows me everywhere and comes when she is called.

She is house trained and has figured out where my doggy door is and can get outside.

I usually go looking for her and call her name so that she can locate me and follow me to the door as she has difficulty in finding the door from the outside.

She is well mannered and sits quietly while I prepare the dinner bowls.

After 5 days in her foster home, she has started feeling playful and interacts with toys and one of the other pugs in the pack.

Little Lupe, as I call her, deserves a much better life than she was given prior to PugHearts.

Update: Lupita -I call her LuLu - is doing great.

She'll always have wonky back legs but they get stronger every day.

She is a tiny ball of love.

A happy girl.

She goes in and out the doggy door, gets along with all the other pugs and will go right into her crate when it’s time for bed.

Absolutely love her.

Update: Heartworm treatment has now been completed!

Loved forever by her family and held by Becky at the Rainbow Bridge until her family claims her.

Lolita

Lolita is a fawn female and an owner surrender.

From Lolita's with help from foster: Hi, Yall Lolita here Im about 8 years old, full figured little lady.

I am doggie door trained.

I am good with kids, other dogs, cats, and I love people.

I am sight impaired but I can see light and dark.

I do require eye drops 2 to 3 times a day to help with my dry eyes.

I also take Rimadyl for my minor arthritis as needed, but I get around just fine.

I also take Tobutrol for what they call a narrowing trachea which makes me cough from time to time.

I do like to cuddle.

I love my treats.

I love green beans and carrots with my kibble.

Foster mom also puts some coconut oil in out food several times a week.

I love the taste of coconut.

she gets that kind that is unprocessed or something like that, so it taste just like coconut.

She also puts plain yogurt in out food too from time to time, boy that stuff is good.

Did I mention I do love my treats?

I will play tug-a-war if you put the toy to my mouth.

Foster mom says I’m a wonderful lady pug.

If you are looking for a cuddle pug, then I'm your girl.

I'm taking applications for my forever home.

So if you would like an interview please let me know.

Kai

Kai is a 12 year old female that came out of local shelter.

She has been through some trauma and has a huge mass on her abdomen.

We are working to make her feel better.

Stay tuned.

Update from Kai's foster: Kai is one of the most special pugs I think I have fostered.

She came into Pughearts in such terrible shape that pictures were not able to be shared.

The first time I saw her something in my heart melted and I knew I wanted her to come to my home.

She went through a surgery to remove a huge mass cell and to put a drain in a wound on her head.

Then she was able to come home.

Kai never missed a beat, she knew she was in a home and she knew exactly what to do.

When I went to the kitchen she followed and whined until I fed her, when she had to potty she scratched at the door and when it was time to go to bed she went and stared at the bed (my bed) until I put her in.

I don’t know how she got into the shape she was in when we got her but it’s obvious that at some point in her life Kai was very loved and cherished.

Then I took her back to recheck the ulcer in her eye and the news was not good.

She needed to have her eye removed and some more tumors removed from her abdomen.

The news was not good because there were also many little tumors that could not be removed.

So Kai is now hospice.

We’re hoping that with medication she will be with us for a good long time.

But she will be given everything she needs and loved as long as we are blessed to have her.

Kai is a very special old gal!

Sweet Kai crossed over the Rainbow Bridge in October 2015.

Her foster Mommy Mary was her real Mommy in the end.

Lexi

Lexi is a pug mix that was found wandering all alone.

She is about 1-2 years old.

From Lexi's foster: Lexi is a young female pug mix, weighing in at 26 pounds.

She has been spayed and brought current on her shots.

She is heart worm positive and will get her treatment in about 3 months.

(November 2015) She is maybe 2-3 years old and still quite playful.

She may be too rambunctious for very young children but I just got her and am working on her manners.

She is smart and already knows sit, shake and roll over.

She is athletic and fun.

She is good with other dogs.

She would love to have a forever home!

4-21-16: Sadly, Lexi has left us for the Rainbow Bridge.

Layla

Layla is an 13 year old senior female. She is heartworm negative and in good health.

From Layla's foster: Layla is a 13 yr old, young at heart female.

She is heart worm negative and has an old fracture to her right front elbow that was not attended to properly when weeks old.

This hardly slows her down!

She loves to run and do zoomies in the back yard and inside the house.

She is a joy to have around.

She's a feisty girl that only has eyes for her human.

She is extremely smart.

She learned to use a doggie door in no time at all.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks??

She's potty trained and loves to play with plush toys.

She does tire easily, but enjoys a free ride on her stroller with her brother Spike.

They are a sight to behold!

Her eyesight and hearing are intact.

She has a very sweet disposition and enjoys frequent belly rubs.

You will fall in love with her antics right away as she is cute as a button with her huge brown eyes.

Layla does not enjoy being held for long periods, but loves her alone time with her human.

Love this little gal!

Kenny

Kenny is a 6 yr old fawn male.

He comes to us with previous trauma to his front leg that turned his foot outward.

He is heartworm negative.

From Kenny's foster: Isn’t Kenny a handsome man?

He is doing very well since Dolly passed, he doesn’t seem to be looking for her and he’s eating well and not being in the least bit shy about making me hold him.

Kenny is very healthy, no heartworms, no dry eye, no worms, no skin issues ….

Wow the elusive healthy pug.

Kenny does have a problem with his foot.

The vet believes it was broken when he was very young and not set so it healed crooked.

But it doesn’t seem to bother him, he barely limps and can run when he wants to.

He’s a very considerate bed partner and doesn’t try to push you out of bed.

Kenny is 6 years old and has a whole lot of love to give someone.

His face is so animated when he wants something and he just wants to be loved.

How about someone giving this handsome man a home?

He is 11, blind and deaf; takes meds and eye drops daily for life.

This sweet old man is a return to PugHearts.

Sadly, he is not in good shape and will remain in our care until it is his time to cross the Rainbow Bridge.

Louise

Louise is a senior pug that was an owner surrender.

She is so very sweet and loves to cuddle.

Everyone falls in love with her.

She does have a collapsing trachea and will have to be on medication for the rest of her life.

She can't be out in the heat and/or exercise for a long time.

Louise would be perfect for someone that wants a quiet, lovable companion.

She is not dominant, and she gets along great with my 2 dogs.

She is not food aggressive and very rarely has "accidents" on the floor.

If you like to sleep late, Louise will not wake you up!

She is perfectly happy snuggling in the bed next to you and is such good company.

If you are looking for a furry companion to watch movies with you and love you unconditionally, Louise is for you!

Blind in one eye and maybe some in the other eye.

He is a little bit of a loner.

He eats very well in his crate.

Latte prefers sleeping with me and his other Pug friends.

Very good with other dogs and children.

Latte would be a very good companion to sit and be a TV buddy.

Lotta Lotta Latte....you are loved.

Lucille

Lucille is a senior lady that comes to PugHearts with her brother and friend Lawrence.

They are a bonded pair of seniors and will see our vet to be checked out completely.

Lucille is an 8 year old silver fawn female, heartworm negative.

She has been spaded and is ready for her forever home.

Lucille is totally blind; however, she learns her way around very quickly.

She loves to take walks and will run ahead of everyone else to lead the pack.

How she knows where she is going is beyond me, but she does.

She is a sweet, lovable little Velcro baby.

She gets along well with other dogs and cats.

She would work well in a home with older kids.

Loud noises scare her so a quite home would be great.

You will need to put drops in her eyes once a day for the rest of her life and she will need medicated baths once a week, she has no other medical issues.

She has a brother named Lawrence, they are a bonded couple and will be adopted together.

Lucille crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Christmas night 2017.

She had a wonderful day, played and was loved on by many family members.

She took this wonderful memory and crossed the Rainbow Bridge knowing she was loved completely and that Sue would love and care for Lawrence until he joins her at the Bridge.

My name is Lenny and I am cute.

Just look at me - look into my eyes.

I am totes adorbs and I am 6 years old.

Did you know I am also very playful?

I love to play with the other dogs at my foster’s house.

As soon as I am done playing, I love to cuddle.

I really enjoy sitting with you and also love to sleep on the bed with you too.

I love to be close to you and I will also bark to let you know if I hear a weird noise and try to figure it out.

Besides you, I love the “little yous” - I love kids!

My fosters have a 2 year old and I can be found sitting next to her.

I am potty trained too - I know how to go out the doggy door and will come back in when I am finished.

Do you think you could love me?

Lulu

LuLu comes to PugHearts with her sister Maddie after a death in the family.

I'm heartbroken to let everyone know that we had to let foster Lulu cross the rainbow bridge yesterday.

She had severe kidney disease and was not responding to treatment.

She was the sweetest girl and I'm happy I was able to be her foster and love her during her last days.

She got a happy meal and hot fudge sundae before we let her go.

She really enjoyed her last treat from the treat window.

Lana and baby penny

***UPDATE*** Penny just left us to be with her Mama.

I’m so sorry that people failed you.

Run Free Mama Luna and Baby Penny.

??

Some times things hit you hard that you aren’t expecting...

I didn’t even get to meet her and my heart is broken.

Mama Lana was found in a field with her one surviving baby.

Her mammary was necrotic.

She hung on as long as she could so that her baby could be saved.

She crashed and wasn’t able to be revived.

I wish she would have been able to have the life she deserved.

Run free in the fields of gold, Mama Lana, knowing that your baby is in safe hands.

PugHearts will do everything we can to give her a full and happy life.

Mama Lana will come to my house for her forever resting place and I will tell her that she mattered and that she was loved.

Lavender

Lavender came to PugHearts with her four puppies and sister Tulip following a Hoarding situation.

She is 3 years old and has clearly spent her life as a breeding dog due to her poor body condition.

Unfortunately Lavender has severe emotional scars from the constant abuse she’s suffered during her short life.

She spends the majority of her days hiding under the bed or in a crate, and retreats quickly if anyone tries to look her in the eye.

She’s learned to trust me enough to come inside when I call her name as long as she doesn’t see me, and will sometimes even take a treat from me when she’s hidden at the back of her cage.

Sudden movements send her into hiding, and the slightest change to her environment will cause uncontrollable shaking, where she might hide under the bed for hours.

We’re trying 100 mgs of Trazodone a day, to see if it relaxes and calms her mind, but it is unclear if Lavender will ever be a normal dog that understands how to give and receive love.

Lavender shows no signs of aggression at all, but the trauma she has experienced is more than heartbreaking.

Despite all of this, Lavender’s happy place is outside with her foster siblings.

I watch from a distance and see what could be a very happy dog.

She’s runs the fence line with them and will play while she’s feeling comfortable.

Humans have failed Lavender.

Sometimes the scars that you cannot see are far worse than any physical scars, and this is very true in Lavender’s case.

It pains me to know humans can be so cruel, but PugHearts will do everything we can to help Lavender flourish and be as happy as she can be.

Les

Les is an adorable, petite 6-year-old Pug in search of a family that will love him as much as he loves them!

He is Heartworm Negative and comes to PugHearts from a Texas shelter.

He is a true “Velcro Pug” that wants nothing else but to be close to his person.

His kind and loving personality makes him a perfect pet for anyone.

He’s wonderful with kids and other dogs.

This 14-pound little guy has the perfect amount of energy, loves to snuggle and give kisses, and will sit for treats.

He has Bilateral Luxating Patellas, which causes him to walk just a little funny.

It doesn’t seem to bother him because he stands up on his hind legs to ask for loving!

He doesn’t jump on furniture and would prefer to lay right at your feet.

He has a darling little under bite and makes the cutest sounds when you rub his belly.

Keefe

This handsome sweetheart comes to us from China, and is estimated to be about 5 years old.

He is a very quiet boy, and is slowly learning to trust that he is now safe, and loved.

He loves a good belly rub, and snuggles up against his Foster Mom like velcro.

He has found his favorite spots in the house where he will go lay and nap.

Keefe is working on his house manners, and gets along with other the other pugs, but would be great as an only dog in a quiet home.

This sweet boy wants nothing more than to be loved on and held closely to you.

He has the most adorable little whimper when you hold him close, it just melts your heart.

Keefe will go for his medical intake soon, and we learn more about this little love bug at that time.

Louis

Wiggle, run, jump, kiss, repeat is Louis’s motto at six months of age!

Louis joined PugHearts with his brother, but will be adopted separately.

Louis is the bravest of the siblings, as he frequently takes the lead to ensure things are okay for his brother.

He loves to play with toys, even the perceived ones (socks) on your feet!

Louis’s activity level is medium to high and is doing terrific on his potty training if he is kept on a schedule.

He will not ask out yet.

He like his brother, is learning rules and boundaries so he can choose which ones he is going to abide by!

Louis is a sweet boy that greets you by raising up on you and giving a sweet little kiss.

He is learning about cuddling, and will sit with you a few minutes, then he is off on his next adventure.

Louis is shy like his brother and does not warm up quickly to strangers.

You will have to build his trust, but once you do, he will be a wonderful member of your family.

Lulu

LuLu made her way to PugHearts after a rescue in Mexico asked for our help.

As you can see, LuLu is not a pug.

She is however the cutest French Bulldog around.

She has adjusted to life in Houston as a foster with PugHearts.

She doesn’t mind other dogs, but hasn’t actually started playing yet.

She will however snuggle next to her siblings on the dog bed for a nap.

She loves chewing on hooves, nylabones and any other chew toy.

House training is still a work in progress and she isn’t a fan of going outside first thing in the morning.

She came to PugHearts with a nasty ear infection, but meds have taken care of that.

She does have some vision issues due to dry eye, but her vet believes her eye sight will improve with daily dry eye drops.

She loves her foster mommy and freely gives out kisses.

It is obvious that LuLu has had multiple litters but she did come to PugHearts already spayed.

She will have her nares and palate done prior to adoption.

Lucy angelina

Lucy Angelina is fighting for her life battling meningitis.

Angelina is making slow progress every day.

She knows her name and LOVES food time.

Neurology appointment 9/19/2022.

ANGELINA STOOD UP AND WALKED AROUND TODAY!!!

(8/27/2022) She did have a minor seizure and that’s not necessarily a set back.

Her vision is slightly better (she is still mostly blind) but she is making important improvements.

If all keeps going in this direction then she will be able to come to Houston on Sunday and start her treatment and hopefully her recovery here.

Please keep the prayers coming!

She is far from out of the woods but we will take this news for now!!

Leon

Please welcome Leon to Pughearts!

He is 10 yrs old Heartworm Negative and Neutered.

Leon came from a shelter in Mexico and Pughearts rescued him.

I would describe Leon as an old Soul with the most laid back personality, Leon would be great with any grumble since his presence brings the most positive energy, Does Leon sound like your kind of Pug?

He will be waiting for his forever home until then.

Knox

At 17 lbs and medium stature, this uniquely colored pug mix is a looker!

His coat is a latte color with white markings.

We're not sure what he's mixed with, but there's lots of speculation around Boston, boxer, or Frenchie.

Knox is one of the lucky ones from south Texas.

He was owner surrendered to a high kill shelter, but was plucked away just in time before he was to be euthanized.

This 4 year old boy still has lots of life and love to give.

He loves Nyla bones, he is learning routines quickly, is very loving, and he gets along well with other dogs.

He would do great in a home with kids, with other dogs, or as a solo companion.

He has a medium energy level, no health issues, (corneal scars but they don't require meds), and does well in a crate when needed.

King

Introducing King—Because Every Castle Needs a Ruler!

King is a distinguished 3-year-old pug who believes in the finer things in life: peace, quiet, and the undivided attention of his loyal subjects (that’s you).

??

He’s sweet, loving, and not one for rowdy court jesters—so he’d prefer a home without young kids and with either no other dogs or maybe just one well-mannered noble companion.

If your home is more “royal retreat” than “chaotic kingdom,” King just might be your perfect match.

Apply now to make him the ruler of your heart (and your couch).

Leticia

Leticia 6-year-old Pug | 21 lbs.

| Drama Queen in Recovery Leticia is a 6 year old pug coming to us from the streets of Mexico in rough shape.

Currently she’s being treated for an enlarged heart that causes fits of coughing.

She’s doing much better than she was when she came in two weeks ago and don’t let her current condition fool you - this girl is full of personality.

There is no shortage of chasing around two legged and four legged members of the house around and she is very vocal about what she wants and when she wants it.

After 6 years of a life I can’t even imagine, she is truly living her best life now full of cuddles, snacks, soft beds, and lots of loving words.

Leticia is not currently adoptable as we work on treating her heart, but keep an eye out for this one she’s definitely a keeper.
