Rainbow Bridge

This page is dedicated to the 653 dogs who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge either while under the care of PugHearts or with their adopted families.

Although it is always sad to lose any dog to the Bridge, we are comforted in the knowledge that they knew they were loved. Because of generous donations from people like you, even terminally ill hospice dogs have a chance to experience love and compassion in their final days.

Rex

Rex is a fawn male.

He is around 9 years old.

He has been neutered, microchipped and is current on his vaccinations.

He suffers from dry eye and needs daily drops.

From Rex's foster: Rex is an easy going dog who loves people and gets along great with other dogs.

He is such a sweet guy!

He likes to spend most of his time on the couch but does like to play occasionally.

He needs daily eye drops for dry eyes which is common in pugs.

I started giving him a treat after I give him his eye drops and now when I am finished with the drops he gets excited and runs to the kitchen to wait for his treat .

He was very quick to pick up on this routine!

He's a smart boy and a good listener.

He is for the most part house trained but has had occasional accidents.

He is a little fluffy so is currently on a diet but is doing well and already seems to be losing some weight.

Rex is such a joy to have around.

All this guy needs is a forever, loving home with a comfy couch to nap on.

8-25-16: Rex crossed over the Rainbow bridge today.

He spent his last years knowing true love, being adored by his foster family.

Ralphie

Ralphie is a 10 year old fawn male.

He is heartworm negative and has been neutered.

He is current on all of his vaccinations and microchipped.

He is deaf but can see pretty well.

He does have some stiff joints probably related to arthritis.

All in all he is in good health for a senior.

Ralphie is a sweet, gentle boy.

He is housetrained.

He does very well around other dogs and cats.

He's probably not used to being around kids as he "ignores" children.

Not really playful but that's to be expected in a senior guy.

This little guy loves to cuddle or just be near his humans.

He can also be vocal, trying to "talk" to his human.

He loves sleeping in a human bed at night but needs help getting up and down.

Basically happy and very easygoing, Ralphie just needs someone to love and a lap to lay on.

Rambo

Rambo was loved by his new Mama and Daddy from the moment they saw his photo on PugHearts.

He spent his entire life sleeping next to his Baby Girl (Jasmine #2), who he loved and protected with all his heart.

Rambo's Moma told him every day "You have a Mama who loves you now."

Rambo loved to ride in a car and go to the park.

He ran like a rocking horse and when his Daddy worked on projects, he helped any way he could.

No project would have been completed correctly without Rambo's close supervision.

He was his Daddy's best friend.

Rambo loved unconditionally and with all his heart (solid gold) and he laughed with all his might (he was a mighty pug).

He lived a long life and will be greatly missed.

Ricky

Ricky is a small pug.

He is so sweet and a true gentleman.

Ricky is severe heartworm positive.

He comes to us after his "owner" decided they were tired of him living in the garage.

They took him to a local shelter, where they called us to help.

Ricky is too sick for treatment at this time.

He is on medications for his heart, fluid and steroids to help him breath.

I love him and will do everything in my power to help him gain strength, health and a new life.

Ricky is currently on medical hold and cannot be adopted at this time.

On Oct. 4th, 2011 Ricky lost his fight to heartworms.

He was loved and given a safe, loving environment in his last days.

We will miss him.

Reese's

Reese's is a fawn male puppy who has been brought in as part of a transfer from OK.

He is very sick right now; we have lost 3 of his littermates to Parvo.

We will continue to give this little guy the best medical care we can to try and help him through this.

We will post updates as we have news.

Sadly, this sweet little boy lost his fight on March 8th, 2012.

Although we couldn't save him, we know that he understood he was surrounded by people who loved him and really cared for him in his last days.

He did not die alone or unloved; he is free from pain and suffering, running free at rainbow bridge with his siblings Baby Ruth and Skittles.

He is blind from untreated dry eye, severe heartworm positive with a heart murmur.

Randall has spondolosis in his back and bad hips.

His hearing in extremely limited from untreated ear infections that caused his ear flaps to be scarred from constant scratching.

He currently has pneumonia and intestinal parasites so bad that he is anemic.

Randall is receiving care and we will post more details.

Sadly, Randall's condition did not improve and we lost him in October 2015.

Ricky

Ricky is a pug mix male from the Texas Valley He has a broken jaw (likely an old injury) and bad skin.

From Ricky's foster: Say hello to Ricky.

He's been at the clinic for the last week because he has sarcoptic mange.

He's had a super hard life.

He has severe HW and his jaw is broken so bad it makes me shudder to see it.

It's been broken for a super long time and the bone is so deteriorated that it may not be possible to fix.

He has to get healthy and get rid of the HW and then it will be time to figure out if anything can be done for the jaw.

It doesn't seem to hurt him so he's in good shape for now.

Ricky left us on July 28, 2015.

He is missed by the entire PugHearts family.

Ricky had a terrible life before coming into our care and each of us took it upon ourselves to spoil this sweet boy beyond words.

Ricky will forever be remembered as a happy, spunky boy.

One of Mary's babies....forever loved and adored.

Ricky, Rick Roo I love you July 28, 2015

Rocket

Rocket is an 8 year old male.

He was surrendered to a local shelter after his caregiver passed away.

From Rocket's foster: This guy is Rocket.

He's really not as old as he looks, he's only 8 years old.

It's very sad to see what happens to a pug when they have not been loved and cared for like they deserve.

He was starved to the point that he couldn't eat when we got him, he was in the clinic for several weeks because he couldn't gain weight.

He's eating really good now, I feed him twice as much as everyone else and he's finally starting to gain a little weight.

Rocket has issues with his back legs and as a result has some issues with controlling his pooping.

But the good news is it's usually able to be picked right up.

He does pee outside but he just doesn't' have any control on the other.

Rocket is a loving little guy and loves to be held and loved.

He will take a special person to deal with his problem but I truly believe that there is a person out there for each of our pugs, no matter what their issues are.

5-11-16: Sadly, Rocket crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.

He is now free of his physical limitations.

Sleep well, little man.

Roscoe

Roscoe is a large and regal 12-year old male who came with his bonded mate, Jedi.

Roscoe is a pug of minimal needs.

He loves a good belly rub and enjoys rolling on his back while outside in the grass.

He does have limited vision and appears to be hard of hearing.

He sometimes has difficulty getting up from his orthopedic nap-mat and frequently limps, favoring his right front leg.

However, he is such an easy-going guy that these features have little impact on his daily life.

He ignores the house cat and two other dogs in the house.

He especially enjoys his siestas.

He is house trained and has a healthy appetite.

Roscoe has come from a lot of love in his life and would love a quiet and sedate forever home to live out his remaining years with his good buddy, Jedi.

Roscoe crossed the Rainbow Bridge during a nap in his loving foster home with his Mom and buddy Jedi close by.

He felt safe, warm, fed and loved and took that happy memory with him as he left us.

Remington

Remington was found following Hurricane Harvey and will be hanging out with PugHearts in hopes that his family will come looking for him.

Remington is a 12 year old neutered male who was found after Harvey at a local shelter.

He is a gentle soul, and just wishes to live out his final years loved by a human of his very own.

He does have dry eyes, spondylosis, and is mostly deaf and blind.

He likes to spend his days either sleeping next to you on a couch, or relaxing in a dog bed.

He is great around other dogs and children and truly gets along with everybody.

Ray

Greetings, my name is Ray and my bonded mate is Bambi, we come as a pair.

We lost our loving home when our owner suddenly passed away.

Because we are different breeds, me being a French Bulldog and Bambi being a Pug/Brussels Griffon we went to separate Rescue organizations and after numerous weeks of us trying to adjust it was clear we both needed to be back together, so here we are two peas in a pod.

I am a handsome older gentleman who has a heart of gold and gets along with all the dogs in my foster home, young and old, my size all the way down to a tiny 2.4 lb dog.

I am house trained and I do best with a regular potty schedule.

I am crate trained although it is not my favorite place to be...I do best with Bambi by my side.

I have a bit of a wonky walk, which is from my arthritis so a home without stairs is a must.

Bambi and I do take daily Dasquin to help ease the stiffness.

My daily joys include belly rubs, napping, patrolling the fenced backyard perimeters and I do love my treats!

I will occasionally play with my favorite squeaky toy, but this is only when I feel a bit frisky.

I am a bit hard of hearing, but don't worry I respond to a wave of a hand or if I am close I can hear you if you speak up just a little.

I am a quiet boy who will only vocalize when you return home from a short outing and this is to let you know how very much I missed you.

Let me introduce you to Bambi, she is my bonded mate and she is a beautiful Pug/Brussels Griffon southern girl that has impeccable manners.

Bambi is beautifully house-trained, crate trained and also dog friendly.

Neither Bambi or myself have any destructive behavior what so ever.

Bambi enjoys sniffing around the yard, occasional sunbathing, rolling in the plush green grass, sleeping on the couch and she loves treats too!

She isn't much for for toys or playing, but is a timid, loving, gentle wall flower type personality.

We would both flourish in a less active, calm home with someone who is home most of the time.

We currently do not share a home with children and the hustle and bustle of children would be to much us.

We both love to follow you around the house as you do your daily chores and we are content sleeping in the bedroom at our foster home on those thick orthopedic beds.

Best part, you won't hear a peep out of us all night, well ok maybe a little snoring from Bambi, but I don't snore at all.

We hope you won't pass us by because we aren't young pups, we will bring sunshine to your home daily and we would be very grateful for a forever home.

Don't wait a moment longer to apply for this sweet couple!

Ray is bonded with his sister Bambi.

Robert

Sweet Robert comes to PugHearts from a shelter in Texas.

He is about 12 years old, blind, heard of hearing and with bad knees and arthritis.

This poor guy had no business in a shelter and is just looking for a warm bed and loving human to let him live out his life in peace, safety and love.

We are happy to report that he is heartworm negative.

He does have terrible dental care and will be having a dental done with his neuter.

He has bad knees and arthritis....typical old man problems.

He is blind, but he is NOT deaf.

his ears had some infection and we are treating that as well as dry eye.

A quote from Foster Rosie : I may be old and I may be Grey but my love is the same.

My steps may be slower, I might not hear you as well but my love is the same.

I may not see you or feel you as I did, but my love is the same.

My devotion is the same , My heart and soul is the same.

I am grateful for all that you and have done and do and just remember my Love is the still the same ??.

Rex

Rex is a scared, but sweet pug mix that came to PugHearts with his friend Roxie.

Sadly, we lost Rex without being able to provide him the happily ever after we had hoped.

Rex was a sweet heart and just wanted to know what all the things were.

He ran around with his nose to the ground sniffing at everything.

He would stop long enough to let you pet him, but then would put his nose down again and run around and around.

He was an escape artist.

He could get out of his kennel and out of gate.

He could chew through galvanized wire.

He was precious.

Roxie

This is ROXY!!

She is as sweet as she is beautiful.

Full of love, she will always be excited to see you.

And content to lie on you ALL THE TIME.

She is house trained, but HATES the crate.

You can put her in it if you are leaving or to feed her, but if you are home and she is in that thing, she will poop in it.

EVERY.

SINGLE.

TIME.

Even if she's just been outside.

She is smart, sweet, silly and exuberant.

She wants to be very near you.. preferably on you or right next to you.

If you are not actively petting her, she will climb on you so you know she's there.

Expect to give her at least 5 full minutes of attention before she is willing to lie down and nap.

Roxie came to PugHearts with her brother.

She crossed the Rainbow Bridge shortly after adoption due to medical complications.

Rachel

Rachel was loved completely in the short time she was with PugHearts.

The infection from the dog attack was too much for her little body and we lost her in surgery trying to remove the eye and clean out the infection.

Ripley

Ripley is the softest 9 month old boy.

He came to Pughearts weighting less than 2 lbs and close to death but amazing vet care and foster love saved his life.

He is now a long 15 lb smooth mini-panther that loves running full speed outside!

Ripley is mostly deaf but that doesn’t stop him at all from his everyday adventures.

Also, fireworks and noise will never bother him!

Now he is the happiest derpy and sweet boy.

He loves to play with every single one of his toys, with any dog around and then he will pass out on your lap, by his friends side or on top of your sofa.

Ripley is a special needs boy so he tends to favor walking in circles at times due but other than that he is the kindest soul with the sound of a good puppy.

He is available for adoption and he should be better placed in a house with another playful dog.

He also loves playing with kids and loves all humans.

He sleeps in his crate all night and is getting better at his potty manners since he wasn’t allowed outside due to his challenging medical life start.

He is learning to walk outside on a leash and loves treats!

Lost to Liver Shunt Complications, now an angel on his Forever Mom's shoulder.

Rowdy

Most days fostering for PugHearts are wins.

Wins for us, wins for the pugs, wins for unconditional love.

But today is a bad, hard day.

Foster Rowdy crossed the rainbow bridge this afternoon.

This handsome old man had all the love in the world to give.

But he had medical issues we could not fix.

So, PugHearts made the difficult but compassionate decision to let him go this afternoon.

Eli and I held him as he crossed, making sure he knew that even though we’d only had him for 10 days, 10 days was more than enough time to love him.

As we grieve the loss of this sweet boy, I take an incredible amount of comfort in knowing Rowdy is why we say, “Any pug, any age, any condition, any time.

Riggs

Riggs is 3 years old and quite the handsome young man.

When I picked him up at the vet I thought I had another puppy and was completely surprised (and relieved) to find out how old he is.

He just weighs 11 pounds and looks like a puppy.

He was just a tad crazy when he first arrived (understatement).

It could have had something to do with him being alone for days after his owners moved and abandoned him at an apartment complex!

He was pretty skinny and so excited to be with people.

But he has calmed down so much in the 3 weeks he's been with me.

Riggs was neutered (which made a huge difference in his behavior), had his palate and nares fixed and is ready for his new life.

He is very social and loves his people, maybe a little more than his foster siblings.

Riggs loves to give kisses and will be a fantastic guy for a home with children or adults who will give him attention.

He is crate trained and is doing exceptionally well with the concept of going potty outside.

If you want a puppy for life Riggs is just your guy.

He's really something.

Riggs is currently on Medical Hold addressing some gastro issues.

He is still active and happy and loving.

Rufus

HOSPICE Rufus here, I’m a little guy maybe 11 or 12 lbs.

I’m about 10 yrs old.

Foster Mom says I’m just the most wonderful little guy and I’m a great cuddler.

I do love to snuggle and sit next to you and love getting belly rubs too.

I do walk wonky, they believe I had a neck injury at some time, but I don’t remember.

I can walk and run, just a little wonky.

I do require daily eye drops for my dry eye, and Rimadyl twice daily.

I do get along great with the pugs.

I am looking for my forever home.

Rebecca

Rebecca was one of the beloved Whiskey puppies who came to PugHearts from the Rio Grand Valley at just 4 days old, tragically orphaned after their mother passed away shortly after birth.

Despite being frail and covered in fleas, Rebecca was given warmth and love by the caring team at PugHearts.

Though her time on this earth was short, she will always be remembered for the joy and innocence she brought during her brief stay.

Rebecca passed away on 2/17/24, at only 5 days old

Ricky

Please meet Ricky.

Ricky has lived a life of cruelty and neglect.

Unfortunately, Ricky has a necrotic tumor in his mouth that has rotted and infested his entire mouth.

This is unacceptable.

We will not make Ricky suffer.

We are going to do the most humane and respectful thing we possibly can do for Ricky….

He is getting his wings.

I am so sad over this.

Please say a prayer for Ricky and let him know he was loved.

Thank you to Josman for holding him and loving him while he crosses.

Run pain free, Ricky.

We have so many waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge to welcome you and show you around.

You will always be PugHearts.
